An Erd\H{o}s-Wintner theorem for second-order linear recurrent bases

Let $a,b$ be integers with $1\le b\le a$, and let \[ G_0=1,\qquad G_1=a+1,\qquad G_{n+2}=aG_{n+1}+bG_n. \] For real-valued functions which are additive in the greedy $G$-digits, we prove a necessary-and-sufficient criterion for the existence of a limiting distribution. The criterion consists of a first-order drift series and a quadratic digit-energy series, and it recovers the Zeckendorf theorem when $a=b=1$. The main difficulty is necessity: a one-step transfer matrix detects all non-maximal digit values, while the maximal digit becomes visible only in a two-step product. A weighted Euclidean norm symmetrizes the untwisted companion matrix and makes both contractions occur at the true Perron scale. Sufficiency follows from a two-dimensional Perron product lemma with square-summable transverse perturbations and a convergent, not necessarily absolutely convergent, Perron drift. The limiting characteristic function admits a scalar infinite-product representation in a neighbourhood of the origin and a global matrix-product representation at arbitrary frequencies.

Linear truncation for conditioned prime-factor fibres

In previous joint work with Tenenbaum, the truncation step $f \mapsto f_R$ in the conditional effective Erdos-Wintner theorem on the fibre $ω(n)=k$ yields, in the continuous case for real strongly additive $f$, a remainder of size $η_f(R)^{r/(r+1)}$, where $R$ is the truncation level and $r=k/\log\log x$. We prove an effective linear truncation lemma showing that, in the central window $κ\le r \le 1/κ$, this bound improves to the natural linear scale $rη_f(R)$ under an effective Sathe-Selberg-type ratio estimate for the fibre. This yields a direct effective sharpening of the truncation step in the previous joint work. The same truncation upgrade also applies to prime-set restrictions, $Ω$-fibres, and weighted fibres whenever the corresponding ratio estimate is available.

Short intervals for the Romanoff-type sumset

Let $X$ be large and let $\mathcal{P}$ denote the set of primes. Fix positive real parameters $r_1,\dots,r_s$ and a parameter $\lambda\geqslant 1$ determined by a balancing relation, and let $\mathcal{A}_{\lambda}(X)\subset[1,2X]$ be the associated lacunary set generated by sums of powers of $2$ with polynomially growing exponents. Set $\mathcal{S}_{\lambda}:=\mathcal{P}+\mathcal{A}_{\lambda}(X)$. Fix $\varepsilon>0$, choose $\theta$ with $2/15+\varepsilon<\theta<0.99$, and set $h=X^{\theta}$. We prove that for all but $O_{\varepsilon}\left(X\exp\left(-c_{\varepsilon}(\log X)^{1/4}\right)\right)$ values of $x\in[X,2X]$, the short interval $(x,x+h]$ contains $\asymp_{\varepsilon} h$ integers of the form $p+a$, where $p$ is prime and $a\in\mathcal{A}_{\lambda}(X)$.

Diagonal symmetrisation of tridiagonal Toeplitz matrices

We develop a self-contained framework for real tridiagonal Toeplitz matrices $A_n(a,b,c)$ (diagonal $b$, subdiagonal $a$, superdiagonal $c$) in the symmetrisable regime $ac>0$. A diagonal similarity transforms $A_n(a,b,c)$ into a symmetric Toeplitz matrix, yielding explicit eigenpairs, a Chebyshev determinant/characteristic polynomial formula, and a closed Green kernel for the inverse. As an application we give sharp extremal eigenvalue and conditioning formulae in the natural weighted Hilbert space induced by this similarity. Specialising to the classical repunit matrix $A_n(d,d+1,1)$, we show that $\det(A_n(d,d+1,1))=1+d+\cdots+d^{n}$ and obtain a finite cosine product factorisation of this repunit polynomial, together with quantitative bounds and an explicit inverse in terms of repunits.

A semigroup approach to iterated binomial transforms

We study a one-parameter family of binomial-convolution operators acting on sequences. These operators form an additive semigroup with an explicit inverse, and they subsume iterated classical binomial transforms as a special case. We describe the action in terms of ordinary and exponential generating functions, interpret the transform in the Riordan-array framework, and prove a general root-shift principle for constant-coefficient linear recurrences: applying the transform shifts the characteristic roots by a fixed amount. Several classical families (Fibonacci, Lucas, Pell, Jacobsthal, Mersenne) are treated uniformly as illustrative examples.

Effective Erdős--Wintner for Cantor numeration systems via a trailing-window method

We prove explicit Erdős--Wintner bounds for Cantor numeration systems via a simple trailing-window decomposition. We temporarily discard the last block of digits (the ``window'') and analyze the remaining prefix. The resulting bound has three contributions: (i) a bridge loss from discarding the window; (ii) a variance-type tail for the prefix; and (iii) a regime-dependent smoothing term (Esseen, bounded density, or cancellation of the third cumulant). Optimizing the window length yields rates that are explicit in the sample size. In the fixed-base (q-adic) case we recover Delange's product and obtain effective convergence bounds; the same scheme applies unchanged to Cantor numeration systems. We also include a brief guide indicating when each regime is preferable.

A spectral product formula for repunits via a tridiagonal Toeplitz similarity

For $b>0$ and $n\geqslant 1$, we consider the $n\times n$ tridiagonal matrix $V_n(b)$ with diagonal entries $b+1$, superdiagonal entries $1$, and subdiagonal entries $b$. A diagonal similarity reduces $V_n(b)$ to a symmetric tridiagonal Toeplitz matrix and hence makes its spectrum explicit. Since $\det\left(V_n(b)\right)$ equals the geometric sum $1+b+\cdots+b^{n}$, taking determinants yields a finite cosine product evaluation for this quantity. As further consequences, we derive sharp bounds from the extremal eigenvalues, write down explicit eigenvectors with respect to a natural weighted inner product, and obtain a closed formula for $V_n(b)^{-1}$.

Erd\H{o}s-Wintner theorem for linear recurrent bases

Let $(G_n)_{n\geqslant 0}$ be a linear recurrence sequence defining a numeration system and satisfying mild structural hypotheses. For real-valued G-additive functions (additive in the greedy G-digits), we establish an Erd\H{o}s-Wintner-type theorem: convergence of two canonical series (a first-moment series and a quadratic digit-energy series) is necessary and sufficient for the existence of a limiting distribution along initial segments of the integers. In that case, the limiting characteristic function admits an explicit infinite-product factorization whose local factors depend only on the underlying digit system. We also indicate conditional extensions of this two-series criterion to Ostrowski numeration systems with bounded partial quotients and to Parry $\beta$-expansions with Pisot-Vijayaraghavan base $\beta$.

Improvement of effective Erdos-Wintner theorem for Zeckendorf expansions

We revisit the effective Erdos-Wintner theorem for Zeckendorf expansions. Drmota and the author obtained a uniform Kolmogorov bound whose error involves $T\sum_{j>L-2h}|f(F_j)|$, which assumes absolute convergence of the linear tail $\sum_j f(F_j)$. We remove this assumption. Grouping the transfer matrices in pairs and working to second order on the logarithm of the product, after extracting the common linear phase along the dominant direction, yields a quadratic tail $T^2\sum_{j>L-2h} f(F_j)^2$, or, in a flexible variant, the split tail $T\sum_{|f(F_j)|>1/T}|f(F_j)| + T^2\sum_{|f(F_j)|\le 1/T} f(F_j)^2$. Either form requires only $\sum f(F_j)^2<\infty$.

Effective Erdős-Wintner theorems for digital expansions

In 1972 Delange observed in analogy of the classical Erd\H os-Wintner theorem that $q$-additive functions $f(n)$ has a distribution function if and only if the two series $\sum f(d q^j)$, $\sum f(d q^j)^2$ converge. The purpose of this paper is to provide quantitative versions of this theorem as well as generalizations to other kinds of digital expansions. In addition to the $q$-ary and Cantor case we focus on the Zeckendorf expansion that is based on the Fibonacci sequence, where we provide a sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of a distribution function, namely that the two series $\sum f(F_j)$, $\sum f(F_j)^2$ converge (previously only a sufficient condition was known).

Effective Erd\H os--Wintner theorems

The classical theorem of Erd\H os \& Wintner furnishes a criterion for the existence of a limiting distribution for a real, additive arithmetical function. This work is devoted to providing an effective estimate for the remainder term under the assumption that the conditions in the criterion are fulfilled. We also investigate the case of a conditional distribution.
