Ground State Energy of Dilute Fermi Gases in 1D

We study the spin-J Fermi gas, interacting through a general repulsive 2-body potential, and prove asymptotics of the ground state energy in the dilute limit. The asymptotic behaviour is given in terms of the ground state energy of a spin chain, which is the Heisenberg antiferromagnet in the case of spin-1/2 fermions.

Markovian quantum master equations are exponentially accurate in the weak coupling regime

We consider the evolution of open quantum systems coupled to one or more Gaussian environments. We demonstrate that such systems can be described by a Markovian quantum master equation (MQME) up to a correction that decreases exponentially with the inverse system-bath coupling strength. We provide an explicit expression for this MQME, along with rigorous bounds on its residual correction, and numerically benchmark it for an exactly solvable model. The MQME is obtained via a generalized Born-Markov approximation that can be iterated to arbitrary orders in the system-bath coupling; our error bound converges asymptotically to zero with the iteration order. Our results thus demonstrate that the non-Markovian component in the evolution of an open quantum system, while possibly inevitable, can be exponentially suppressed at weak coupling.

Ancilla-train quantum algorithm for simulating non-Markovian open quantum systems

We present a quantum algorithm for simulating open quantum systems coupled to Gaussian environments valid for any configuration and coupling strength. The algorithm is applicable to problems with strongly coupled, or non-Markovian, environments, problems with multiple environments out of mutual equilibrium, and problems with time-dependent Hamiltonians. We show that the algorithm can reproduce the true dynamics of such problems at arbitrary accuracy and, for a broad range of problems, only adds a minor resource cost relative to Trotterized time evolution; the cost is low-degree polynomial in the inverse target accuracy. The algorithm is based on the insight that any Gaussian environment can be represented as a train of ancillary qubits that sequentially interact with the system through a time-local coupling, given by the convolution square root of the bath correlation function; this is a secondary result of our work. Our results open up new applications of quantum computers for efficient simulation of non-equilibrium and open quantum systems.

Ground state energy of dilute Bose gases in 1D

We study the ground state energy of a gas of 1D bosons with density $ρ$, interacting through a general, repulsive 2-body potential with scattering length $a$, in the dilute limit $ρ|a|\ll1$. The first terms in the expansion of the thermodynamic energy density are $π^2ρ^3/3(1+2ρa)$, where the leading order is the 1D free Fermi gas. This result covers the Tonks-Girardeau limit of the Lieb-Liniger model as a special case, but given the possibility that $a>0$, it also applies to potentials that differ significantly from a delta function. We include extensions to spinless fermions and 1D anyonic symmetries, and discuss an application to confined 3D gases.

One-Loop Yang-Mills Integrands from Scattering Equations

We investigate in the context of the scattering equations, how one-loop linear propagator integrands in gauge theories can be linked to integrands with quadratic propagators using a double forward limit. We illustrate our procedure through examples and demonstrate how the different parts of the derived quadratic integrand are consistent with cut-integrands derived from four-dimensional generalized unitarity. We also comment on applications and discuss possible further generalizations.
