Frobenius monoidal functors induced by Frobenius extensions of Hopf algebras

We show that induction along a Frobenius extension of Hopf algebras is a Frobenius monoidal functor in great generality, in particular, for all finite-dimensional and all pointed Hopf algebras. As an application, we show that induction functors from unimodular Hopf subalgebras to small quantum groups at roots of unity are Frobenius monoidal functors and classify such unimodular Hopf subalgebras. Moreover, we present stronger conditions on Frobenius extensions under which the induction functor extends to a braided Frobenius monoidal functor on categories of Yetter--Drinfeld modules. We show that these stronger conditions hold for any extension of finite-dimensional semisimple and co-semisimple (or, more generally, unimodular and dual unimodular) Hopf algebras.

Monoidal Ringel duality and monoidal highest weight envelopes

We show that a large class of non-abelian monoidal categories can be realized as subcategories of tilting objects in abelian monoidal categories with a highest weight structure. The construction relies on a monoidal enhancement of Brundan-Stroppel's semi-infinite Ringel duality and applies to many of Sam-Snowden's triangular categories and Knop's tensor envelopes of regular categories. We also explain how monoidal Ringel duality gives rise to monoidal structures on categories of representations of affine Lie algebras at positive levels.

Monoidal adjunctions and abelian envelopes

We show how monoidal adjunctions can be used to prove the existence of monoidal abelian envelopes of pseudo-tensor categories, in particular, those admitting a combinatorial description with certain properties. We derive concrete general criteria, which we then demonstrate by giving relatively simple combinatorial proofs of the existence of new abelian envelopes for interpolation categories of the hyperoctahedral and of the modified symmetric groups.

A conjecture on the tensor ideal for an elementary p-group generated by the restriction of a Steinberg module

In previous work (Coulembier--Flake 2024), the authors conjectured that the tensor product of an arbitrary finite-dimensional modular representation of an elementary abelian $p$-group with the biggest non-projective restricted Steinberg $SL_2$-module is a restricted tilting module. We showed that the validity of the conjecture would have interesting implications in the theory of tensor categories in positive characteristic, in particular, with respect to the classification of incompressible symmetric tensor categories, which is the subject of arguably the main open conjecture in the area. We present here some evidence for the conjecture to hold.

Frobenius monoidal functors from ambiadjunctions and their lifts to Drinfeld centers

We identify general conditions, formulated using the projection formula morphisms, for a functor that is simultaneously left and right adjoint to a strong monoidal functor to be a Frobenius monoidal functor. Moreover, we identify stronger conditions for the adjoint functor to extend to a braided Frobenius monoidal functor on Drinfeld centers building on our previous work in [arXiv:2402.10094]. As an application, we construct concrete examples of (braided) Frobenius monoidal functors obtained from morphisms of Hopf algebras via induction.

Towards higher Frobenius functors for symmetric tensor categories

We develop theory and examples of monoidal functors on tensor categories in positive characteristic that generalise the Frobenius functor from \cite{Os, EOf, Tann}. The latter has proved to be a powerful tool in the ongoing classification of tensor categories of moderate growth, and we demonstrate the similar potential of the generalisations. More explicitly, we describe a new construction of the generalised Verlinde categories $Ver_{p^n}$ in terms of representation categories of elementary abelian $p$-groups. This leads to families of functors relating to $Ver_{p^n}$ that we conjecture, and partially show, to exhibit the characteristic properties of the Frobenius functor relating to $Ver_p$. In particular, we conjecture some of these functors to detect categories that fibre over $Ver_{p^n}$.

Projection formulas and induced functors on centers of monoidal categories

Given a monoidal adjunction, we show that the right adjoint induces a braided lax monoidal functor between the corresponding Drinfeld centers provided that certain natural transformations, called projection formula morphisms, are invertible. We investigate these induced functors on Drinfeld centers in more detail for the monoidal adjunction of restriction and (co-)induction along morphisms of Hopf algebras. The resulting functors are applied to examples related to affine algebraic groups, quantum groups at roots of unity, and Radford--Majid biproducts of Hopf algebras. Moreover, we use the projection formula morphisms to prove a characterization theorem for monoidal Kleisli adjunctions and a crude monoidal monadicity theorem. The functor on Drinfeld centers induced by the Eilenberg--Moore adjunction is given in terms of local modules over commutative central monoids.

Indecomposable objects in Khovanov-Sazdanovic's generalizations of Deligne's interpolation categories

Khovanov and Sazdanovic recently introduced symmetric monoidal categories parameterized by rational functions and given by quotients of categories of two-dimensional cobordisms. These categories generalize Deligne's interpolation categories of representations of symmetric groups. In this paper, we classify indecomposable objects and identify the associated graded Grothendieck rings of Khovanov-Sazdanovic's categories through sums of representation categories over crossed products of polynomial rings over a general field. To obtain these results, we introduce associated graded categories for Krull-Schmidt categories with filtrations as a categorification of the associated graded Grothendieck ring, and study field extensions and Galois descent for Krull-Schmidt categories.

The indecomposable objects in the center of Deligne's category $Rep(S_t)$

We classify the indecomposable objects in the monoidal center of Deligne's interpolation category $Rep(S_t)$ by viewing $Rep(S_t)$ as a model-theoretic limit in rank and characteristic. We further prove that the center of $Rep(S_t)$ is semisimple if and only if $t$ is not a non-negative integer. In addition, we identify the associated graded Grothendieck ring of this monoidal center with that of the graded sum of the centers of representation categories of finite symmetric groups with an induction product. We prove analogous statements for the abelian envelope.

Interpolating PBW Deformations for the Orthosymplectic Groups

We propose to use interpolation categories to study PBW deformations, and demonstrate this idea for the orthosymplectic supergroups. Employing a combinatorial calculus based on pseudographs and partitions which we derive from a suitable Jacobi identity, we classify PBW deformations in (quotients of) Deligne's interpolation categories for the orthosymplectic groups. As special cases, our classification recovers families of infinitesimal Hecke algebras found by Etingof-Gan-Ginzburg (2005) for the symplectic groups and by Tsymbaliuk (2015) for the orthogonal groups together with their respective standard representations using completely different geometric methods. Our results can be viewed as an extension of these known results to the family of all orthosymplectic groups together with all of their fundamental representations, obtained by novel interpolation techniques for PBW deformations.

The groups $G$ satisfying a functional equation $f(xk) = xf(x)$ for some $k \in G$

We study the groups $G$ with the curious property that there exists an element $k\in G$ and a function $f\colon G\to G$ such that $f(xk)=xf(x)$ holds for all $x\in G$. This property arose from the study of near-rings and input-output automata on groups. We call a group with this property a $J$-group. Finite $J$-groups must have odd order, and hence are solvable. We prove that every finite nilpotent group of odd order is a $J$-group if its nilpotency class $c$ satisfies $c\le6$. If $G$ is a finite $p$-group, with $p>2$ and $p^2>2c-1$, then we prove that $G$ is $J$-group. Finally, if $p>2$ and $G$ is a regular $p$-group or, more generally, a power-closed one (i.e., in each section and for each $m\geq1$ the subset of $p^m$-th powers is a subgroup), then we prove that $G$ is a $J$-group.

Semisimplicity and Indecomposable Objects in Interpolating Partition Categories

We study Karoubian tensor categories which interpolate representation categories of families of so-called easy quantum groups in the same sense in which Deligne's interpolation categories $\mathrm{\underline{Rep}}(S_t)$ interpolate the representation categories of the symmetric groups. As such categories can be described using a graphical calculus of partitions, we call them interpolating partition categories. They include $\mathrm{\underline{Rep}}(S_t)$ as a special case and can generally be viewed as subcategories of the latter. Focusing on semisimplicity and descriptions of the indecomposable objects, we prove uniform generalisations of results known for special cases, including $\mathrm{\underline{Rep}}(S_t)$ or Temperley--Lieb categories. In particular, we identify those values of the interpolation parameter which correspond to semisimple and non-semisimple categories, respectively, for all so-called group-theoretical easy quantum groups. A crucial ingredient is an abstract analysis of certain subobject lattices developed by Knop, which we adapt to categories of partitions. We go on to prove a parametrisation of the indecomposable objects in all interpolating partition categories for non-zero interpolation parameters via a system of finite groups which we associate to any partition category, and which we also use to describe the associated graded rings of the Grothendieck rings of these interpolation categories.

Gröbner bases for fusion products

We provide a new approach towards the analysis of the fusion products defined by B.~Feigin and S.~Loktev in the representation theory of (truncated) current Lie algebras. We understand the fusion product as a degeneration using Gröbner theory of non-commutative algebras and outline a strategy on how to prove a conjecture about the defining relations for the fusion product of two evaluation modules. We conclude with following this strategy for $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C}[t]) $ and hence provide yet another proof for the conjecture in this case.

Hopf-Hecke algebras, infinitesimal Cherednik algebras, and Dirac cohomology

Hopf-Hecke algebras and Barbasch-Sahi algebras were defined by the first named author (2016) in order to provide a general framework for the study of Dirac cohomology. The aim of this paper is to explore new examples of these definitions and to contribute to their classification. Hopf-Hecke algebras are distinguished by an orthogonality condition and a PBW property. The PBW property for algebras such as the ones considered here has been of great interest in the literature and we extend this discussion by further results on the classification of such deformations and by a class of hitherto unexplored examples. We study infinitesimal Cherednik algebras of $GL_n$ as defined by Etingof, Gan, and Ginzburg in [Transform. Groups, 2005] as new examples of Hopf-Hecke algebras with a generalized Dirac cohomology. We show that they are in fact Barbasch-Sahi algebras, that is, a version of Vogan's conjecture analogous to the results of Huang and Pandžić in [J. Amer. Math. Soc., 2002] is available for them. We derive an explicit formula for the square of the Dirac operator and use it to study the finite-dimensional irreducible modules. We find that the Dirac cohomology of these modules is non-zero and that it, in fact, determines the modules uniquely.

On the Monoidal Center of Deligne's Category Rep(S_t)

We explicitly compute a monoidal subcategory of the monoidal center of Deligne's interpolation category Rep(S_t), for t not necessarily a natural number, and we show that this subcategory is a ribbon category. For t=n, a natural number, there exists a functor onto the braided monoidal category of modules over the Drinfeld double of S_n which is essentially surjective and full. Hence the new ribbon category interpolates the categories of crossed modules over the symmetric groups. As an application, we obtain invariants of framed ribbon links which are polynomials in the interpolating variable t. These polynomials interpolate untwisted Dijkgraaf-Witten invariants of the symmetric groups.

Strata of $p$-Origamis

Given a two-generated group of prime-power order, we investigate the singularities of origamis whose deck group acts transitively and is isomorphic to the given group. Geometric and group-theoretic ideas are used to classify the possible strata, depending on the prime-power order. We then show that for many interesting known families of two-generated groups of prime-power order, including all regular, or powerful ones, or those of maximal class, each group admits only one possible stratum. However, we also construct examples of two-generated groups of prime-power order which do not determine a unique stratum.

Barbasch-Sahi algebras and Dirac cohomology

We define a class of algebras which are distinguished by a PBW property and an orthogonality condition, and which we call Hopf-Hecke algebras, since they generalize the Drinfeld Hecke algebras defined by Drinfeld. In the course of studying the orthogonality condition and in analogy to the orthogonal group we show the existence of a pin cover for cocommutative Hopf algebras over $\mathbb{C}$ with an orthogonal module or, more generally, pointed cocommutative Hopf algebras over a field of characteristic $0$ with an orthogonal module. Following the suggestion of Dan Barbasch and Siddhartha Sahi, we define a Dirac operator and Dirac cohomology for modules of Hopf-Hecke algebras, generalizing those concepts for connected semisimple Lie groups, graded affine Hecke algebras and symplectic reflection algebras. Using the pin cover, we prove a general theorem for a class of Hopf-Hecke algebras which we call Barbasch-Sahi algebras, which relates the central character of an irreducible module with non-vanishing Dirac cohomology to the central characters occurring in its Dirac cohomology, generalizing a result called "Vogan's conjecture" for connected semisimple Lie groups, analogous results for graded affine Hecke algebras and for symplectic reflection algebras and Drinfeld Hecke algebras.
