The spin-1/2 transverse XX chain with regularly alternating bonds and fields

We use continued fractions for a study of the thermodynamic properties of the periodic nonuniform spin-1/2 isotropic XY chain in a non-random/random (Lorentzian) transverse field. The obtained results permit to examine the influence of a magnetic field and randomness on the spin-Peierls dimerization.

Thermodynamic properties of spin-1/2 transverse XY chain with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction: Exact solution for correlated Lorentzian disorder

We extend the consideration of the spin-1/2 transverse XY chain with correlated Lorentzian disorder (Phys. Rev. B {\bf 55,} 14298 (1997)) for the case of additional Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interspin interaction. It is shown how the averaged density of states can be calculated exactly. Results are presented for the density of states and the transverse magnetization.

One variation on Lloyd's theme

One random spin-1/2 XY chain that after Jordan-Wigner fermionization reduces to the extended Lloyd's model is considered. The random-averaged one-fermion Green functions have been calculated exactly that yields thermodynamics of the spin model.

The spin 1/2 Heisenberg star with frustration II: The influence of the embedding medium

We investigate the spin 1/2 Heisenberg star introduced in J. Richter and A. Voigt, J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. {\bf 27}, 1139 (1994). The model is defined by $H=J_1 \sum_{i=1}^{N}{{\bf s}_0{\bf s}_i} + J_2 H_{R}\{{\bf s}_i\}$ ; $J_1,J_2 \ge 0$ , $i=1,...,N$. In extension to the Ref. we consider a more general $H_{R}\{{\bf s}_i\}$ describing the properties of the spins surrounding the central spin ${\bf s}_0$. The Heisenberg star may be considered as an essential structure element of a lattice with frustration (namely a spin embedded in a magnetic matrix $H_R$) or, alternatively, as a magnetic system $ H_R $ with a perturbation by an extra spin. We present some general features of the eigenvalues, the eigenfunctions as well as the spin correlation $\langle {\bf s}_0{\bf s}_i \rangle$ of the model. For $H_R$ being a linear chain, a square lattice or a Lieb-Mattis type system we present the ground state properties of the model in dependence on the frustration parameter $α=J_2/J_1$. Furthermore the thermodynamic properties are calculated for $H_R$ being a Lieb--Mattis antiferromagnet.

Integrable models of interacting quantum spins with competing interactions

We present a class of exactly solvable quantum spin models which consist of two Heisenberg-subsystems coupled via a long-range Lieb-Mattis interaction. The total system is exactly solvable whenever the individual subsystems are solvable and allows to study the effects of frustration. We consider (i) the antiferromagnetic linear chain and (ii) the Lieb-Mattis antiferromagnet for the subsystem-Hamiltonians and present (i) the complete ground-state phase diagram and (ii) the full thermodynamic phase diagram. We find a novel phase which exhibits {\it order from disorder} phenomena.
