Complex FIOs and composition of Toeplitz operators

We study Toeplitz operators on the Bargmann space, with Toeplitz symbols that are exponentials of complex quadratic forms, from the point of view of Fourier integral operators in the complex domain. Sufficient conditions are established for the composition of two such operators to be a Toeplitz operator.

Characterizing boundedness of metaplectic Toeplitz operators

We study Toeplitz operators on the Bargmann space, with Toeplitz symbols given by exponentials of complex quadratic forms. We show that the boundedness of the corresponding Weyl symbols is necessary for the boundedness of the operators, thereby completing the proof of the Berger-Coburn conjecture in this case. We also show that the compactness of such Toeplitz operators is equivalent to the vanishing of their Weyl symbols at infinity.

Semiclassical Gevrey operators in the complex domain

We study semiclassical Gevrey pseudodifferential operators, acting on exponentially weighted spaces of entire holomorphic functions. The symbols of such operators are Gevrey functions defined on suitable I-Lagrangian submanifolds of the complexified phase space, which are extended almost holomorphically in the same Gevrey class, or in some larger space, to complex neighborhoods of these submanifolds. Using almost holomorphic extensions, we obtain uniformly bounded realizations of such operators on a natural scale of exponentially weighted spaces of holomorphic functions for all Gevrey indices, with remainders that are optimally small, provided that the Gevrey index is $\leq 2$.

Semiclassical Gevrey operators and magnetic translations

We study semiclassical Gevrey pseudodifferential operators acting on the Bargmann space of entire functions with quadratic exponential weights. Using some ideas of the time frequency analysis, we show that such operators are uniformly bounded on a natural scale of exponentially weighted spaces of holomorphic functions, provided that the Gevrey index is $\geq 2$.

Analytic Bergman operators in the semiclassical limit

Transposing the Berezin quantization into the setting of analytic microlocal analysis, we construct approximate semiclassical Bergman projections on weighted $L^2$ spaces with analytic weights, and show that their kernel functions admit an asymptotic expansion in the class of analytic symbols. As a corollary, we obtain new estimates for asymptotic expansions of the Bergman kernel on $\mathbb{C}^n$ and for high powers of ample holomorphic line bundles over compact complex manifolds.

A direct approach to the analytic Bergman projection

We develop a direct approach to the semiclassical asymptotics for Bergman projections in exponentially weighted spaces of holomorphic functions, with real analytic strictly plurisubharmonic weights. In particular, the approach does not rely upon the Kuranishi trick and it allows us to shorten and simplify proofs of a result due to Rouby-Sjöstrand-Vũ Ngoc and Deleporte, stating that in the analytic case, the amplitude of the asymptotic Bergman projection is a realization of a classical analytic symbol.

Weyl symbols and boundedness of Toeplitz operators

We study Toeplitz operators on the Bargmann space, with Toeplitz symbols that are exponentials of inhomogeneous quadratic polynomials. It is shown that the boundedness of such operators is implied by the boundedness of the corresponding Weyl symbols.

General Toeplitz matrices subject to Gaussian perturbations

We study the spectra of general $N\times N$ Toeplitz matrices given by symbols in the Wiener Algebra perturbed by small complex Gaussian random matrices, in the regime $N\gg 1$. We prove an asymptotic formula for the number of eigenvalues of the perturbed matrix in smooth domains. We show that these eigenvalues follow a Weyl law with probability sub-exponentially close to $1$, as $N\gg1$, in particular that most eigenvalues of the perturbed Toeplitz matrix are close to the curve in the complex plane given by the symbol of the unperturbed Toeplitz matrix.

Toeplitz band matrices with small random perturbations

We study the spectra of $N\times N$ Toeplitz band matrices perturbed by small complex Gaussian random matrices, in the regime $N\gg 1$. We prove a probabilistic Weyl law, which provides an precise asymptotic formula for the number of eigenvalues in certain domains, which may depend on $N$, with probability sub-exponentially (in $N$) close to $1$. We show that most eigenvalues of the perturbed Toeplitz matrix are at a distance of at most $\mathcal{O}(N^{-1+\varepsilon})$, for all $\varepsilon >0$, to the curve in the complex plane given by the symbol of the unperturbed Toeplitz matrix.

The second Weyl coefficient for a first order system

For a scalar elliptic self-adjoint operator on a compact manifold without boundary we have two-term asymptotics for the number of eigenvalues between zero and lambda when lambda tends to infinity, under an additional dynamical condition. This is a well known result of J.J.Duistermaat and V.W.Guillemin from 1975. In the case of an elliptic system of first order, the existence of two-term asymptotics was also established quite early and as in the scalar case Fourier integral operators have been the crucial tool. The complete computation of the coefficient of the second term was obtained only in 2013. In the present paper we simplify that calculation. The main observation is that with the existence of two-term asymptotics already established, it suffices to study the resolvent as a pseudodifferential operator in order to identify and compute the second coefficient.

Positivity, complex FIOs, and Toeplitz operators

We establish a characterization of complex linear canonical transformations that are positive with respect to a pair of strictly plurisubharmonic quadratic weights. As an application, we show that the boundedness of a class of Toeplitz operators on the Bargmann space is implied by the boundedness of their Weyl symbols.

Adiabatic evolution and shape resonances

Motivated by a problem of one mode approximation for a non-linear evolution with charge accumulation in potential wells, we consider a general linear adiabatic evolution problem for a semi-classical Schrödinger operator with a time dependent potential with a well in an island. In particular, we show that we can choose the adiabatic parameter $\varepsilon $ with $\ln\varepsilon \asymp -1/h$, where $h$ denotes the semi-classical parameter, and get adiabatic approximations of exact solutions over a time interval of length $\varepsilon ^{-N}$ with an error ${\cal O}(\varepsilon ^N)$. Here $N>0$ is arbitrary.

Two minicourses on analytic microlocal analysis

These notes correspond roughly to the two minicourses prepared by the authors for the workshop on Analytic Microlocal Analysis, held at Northwestern University in May 2013. The first part of the text gives an elementary introduction to some global aspects of the theory of metaplectic FBI transforms, while the second part develops the general techniques of the analytic microlocal analysis in exponentially weighted spaces of holomorphic functions.

Non-real Eigenvalues for PT-Symmetric Double Wells

We study small, PT-symmetric perturbations of self-adjoint double-well Schrödinger operators in dimension $n\geq 1$. We prove that the eigenvalues stay real for a very small perturbation, then bifurcate to the complex plane as the perturbation gets stronger.

Local analytic regularity in the linearized Calderón problem

We consider the linearization of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DN) map as a function of the potential. We show that it is injective at a real analytic potential for measurements made at an open subset of analyticity of the boundary. More generally, we relate the analyticity up to the boundary of the variations of the potential to the analyticity of the symbols of the corresponding variations of the DN-map.

PT-symmetry and Schrödinger operators. The double well case

We study a class of PT-symmetric semiclassical Schrödinger operators, which are perturbations of a selfadjoint one. Here, we treat the case where the unperturbed operator has a double-well potential. In the simple well case, two of the authors have proved in \cite{BoMe14} that, when the potential is analytic, the eigenvalues stay real for a perturbation of size O(1). We show here, in the double-well case, that the eigenvalues stay real only for exponentially small perturbations, then bifurcate into the complex domain when the perturbation increases and we get precise asymptotic expansions. The proof uses complex WKB-analysis, leading to a fairly explicit quantization condition.
