Exact ground states of quantum spin-2 models on the hexagonal lattice

We construct exact non-trivial ground states of spin-2 quantum antiferromagnets on the hexagonal lattice. Using the optimum ground state approach we determine the ground state in different subspaces of a general spin-2 Hamiltonian consistent with some realistic symmetries. These states, which are not of simple product form, depend on two free parameters and can be shown to be only weakly degenerate. We find ground states with different types of magnetic order, i.e. a weak antiferromagnet with finite sublattice magnetization and a weak ferromagnet with ferrimagnetic order. For the latter it is argued that a quantum phase transition occurs within the solvable subspace.

Cellular Automaton Approach to Pedestrian Dynamics - Applications

We present applications of a cellular automaton approach to pedestrian dynamics introduced in [1,2]. It is shown that the model is able to reproduce collective effects and self-organization phenomena encountered in pedestrian traffic, e.g. lane formation in counterflow through a large corridor and oscillations at doors. Furthermore we present simple examples where the model is applied to the simulation of evacuation processes.

Exact stationary state of a staggered stochastic hopping model

We determine the $N$-particle stationary states of a staggered stochastic hopping model with reflective boundaries. It is shown that the stationary states are in fact so-called optimum ground states. Recursion relations in the particle number for any $l$-point density correlation function will be derived. Furthermore, the connection between reflective boundaries and the occurrence of optimum ground states is examined. An explicit counterexample shows that reflective boundaries do not enforce the stationary state to be an optimum ground state.
