Hadronic Probes of Non-Standard Neutrino Interactions

In this work, we study leptonic decays of hadrons as probes of light neutrinophilic scalars that mediate enhanced neutrino self-interactions. Such scalars can be emitted in processes involving neutrinos, turning two-body decays into three-body final states and producing characteristic spectral distortions. We compute these effects for charged pion decay and nuclear electron capture decay, including both on-shell and off-shell scalar emission, as well as the loop-induced renormalization required to cancel divergences. Using these results, we derive the projected sensitivity of PIONEER and assess the current and future reach of BeEST. The resulting low-energy spectral tails provide a characteristic signal for light neutrinophilic scalars, making upcoming hadron decay experiments powerful probes of light mediators of non-standard neutrino self-interactions.

Signatures of Bulk Neutrinos in the Early Universe

Neutrino masses and quantum gravity are strong reasons to extend the standard model of particle physics. A large extra dimension can be motivated by quantum gravity and can explain the small neutrino masses with new singlet states that propagate in the bulk. In such a case, a Kaluza-Klein tower of sterile neutrinos emerges. We revisit constraints on towers of sterile neutrinos that come from cosmological observables such as the effective number of noninteracting relativistic species and the dark matter density. These limits generically rule out micron-sized extra dimensions. We explore the weakening of these constraints to accommodate an extra dimension close to the micron size by assuming that the universe reheated after inflation to a low temperature. We discuss how such a possibility can be distinguished in the event of a positive signal in a cosmological observable.

Electroweak Vacuum Stability and the Seesaw Mechanism Revisited

We study the electroweak vacuum stability in Type I seesaw models for 3 generations of neutrinos in scenarios where the right-handed neutrinos have explicit bare mass terms in the Lagrangian and where these are dynamically generated through the mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking. To best highlight the difference of the two cases we concentrate on the absolute stability of the scalar potential. We observe that for the first scenario, the scale at which the scalar potential becomes unstable is lower from that within the Standard Model. In addition the Yukawa couplings $\mathbf{Y}_ν$ are constrained such that $\Tr{[\mathbf{Y}^{\dagger}_ν\mathbf{Y}_ν}] \lesssim10^{-3}$. In the second scenario the electroweak stability can be improved in a large region of parameter space. However, we found that the scalar used to break the lepton number symmetry cannot be too light and have a large coupling to right-handed neutrinos in order for the seesaw mechanism to be a valid mechanism for neutrino mass generation. In this case we have $\Tr [\mathbf{Y}^\dagger_ν \mathbf{Y}_ν]\lesssim 0.01$.

D vs d: CP Violation in Beta Decay and Electric Dipole Moments

The T-odd correlation coefficient D in nuclear beta decay probes CP violation in many theories beyond the Standard Model. We provide an analysis for how large D can be in light of constraints from electric dipole moment (EDM) searches. We argue that the neutron EDM d_n currently provides the strongest constraint on D, which is 10 - 10^3 times stronger than current direct limits on D (depending on the model). In particular, contributions to D in leptoquark models (previously regarded as "EDM safe") are more constrained than previously thought. Bounds on D can be weakened only by fine-tuned cancellations or if theoretical uncertainties are larger than estimated in d_n. We also study implications for D from mercury and deuteron EDMs.

Can $μ$--$e$ Conversion in Nuclei be a Good Probe for Lepton-Number Violating Higgs Couplings ?

Motivated by the improving sensitivity, $R$, of experiments on $μ~Ti \rightarrow e~Ti$ and the enhanced Higgs nucleon interaction, we study this lepton number violating process induced by Higgs exchange. Taking the possible sensitivity, $R \simeq 10^{-16}$, we obtain the constraint on the Higgs-muon-electron vertex, $κ_{μe}$, to be less than $2.4\times10^{-7}$ if the masses of the Higgs scalar and $W$ gauge boson are the same. $κ_{μe}$ is also calculated for some models.
