Gouy phase of type-I SPDC-generated biphotons

We consider a double Gaussian approximation to describe the wavefunction of twin photons (also called a biphoton) created in a nonlinear crystal via a type-I spontaneous parametric downconversion (SPDC) process. We find that the wavefunction develops a Gouy phase while it propagates, being dependent of the two-photon correlation through the Rayleigh length. We evaluate the covariance matrix and show that the logarithmic negativity, useful in quantifying entanglement in Gaussian states, although Rayleigh-dependent, does not depend on the propagation distance. In addition, we show that the two-photon entanglement can be connected to the biphoton Gouy phase as these quantities are Rayleigh-length-related. Then, we focus the double Gaussian biphoton wavefunction using a thin lens and calculate a Gouy phase that is in reasonable agreement with the experimental data of D. Kawase et al. published in Ref. [1].

Constraining EDM and MDM lepton dimension five interactions in the electroweak sector

We investigate dimension five Lorentz-violating nonminimal interactions in the electroweak sector, in connection with the possible generation of electric dipole moment (EDM), weak electric dipole moment (WEDM), magnetic dipole moment (MDM) and weak magnetic dipole moment (WMDM) for leptons. These couplings are composed of the physical fields and LV tensors of ranks ranging from 1 to 4. The CPT-odd couplings do no generate EDM\ behavior and do not provide the correct MDM\ signature, while the CPT-even ones yield EDM and MDM\ behavior, being subject to improved constraining. Tau lepton experimental data is used to constrain the WEDM\ and WMDM couplings to the level of $10^{-4}\left( \text{GeV}\right) ^{-1},$ whereas electron MDM and EDM data is employed to improve constraints to the level of $10^{-17}\left( \text{GeV}\right) ^{-1}$ and $10^{-11}\left( \text{GeV}\right) ^{-1},$ respectively.

Constraining Dimension-Six Nonminimal Lorentz-Violating Electron--Nucleon Interactions with EDM Physics [CPT'19]

Electric dipole moments of atoms can arise from P-odd and T-odd electron--nucleon couplings. This work studies a general class of dimension-six electron--nucleon interactions mediated by Lorentz-violating tensors of ranks ranging from $1$ to $4$. The possible couplings are listed as well as their behavior under C, P, and T, allowing us to select the couplings compatible with electric-dipole-moment physics. The unsuppressed contributions of these couplings to the atom's hamiltonian can be read as equivalent to an electric dipole moment. The Lorentz-violating coefficients' magnitudes are limited using electric-dipole-moment measurements at the levels of $3.2\times10^{-31}\text{(eV)}^{-2}$ or $1.6\times10^{-33}\text{(eV)}^{-2}$.

Constraining dimension-six nonminimal Lorentz-violating electron-nucleon interactions with EDM physics

The electric dipole moment (EDM) of an atom could arise also from $P$-odd and $T$-odd electron-nucleon couplings. In this work we investigate a general class of dimension-$6$ electron-nucleon ($e$-$N$) nonminimal interactions mediated by Lorentz-violating (LV) tensors of rank ranging from $1$ to $4$. The possible couplings are listed as well as their behavior under $C$, $P$ and $T$, allowing us to select the couplings compatible with EDM physics. The unsuppressed contributions of these couplings to the atom's Hamiltonian can be read as EDM-equivalent. The LV coefficients' magnitudes are limited using EDM experimental data to the level of $3.2\times 10^{-13} \text{(GeV)}^{-2}$ or $1.6\times10^{-15} \text{(GeV)}^{-2}$.

Measuring a QED cross section via a witness particle

We consider a QED scattering ($AB\rightarrow AB$), in which $B$ is initially entangled with a third particle ($C$) that does not participate directly in the scattering. The effect of the scattering over $C$'s final state is evaluated and we note coherence (off-diagonal) terms are created, which lead to non null values for $\langle σ_x\rangle$ and $\langle σ_y\rangle$ that are, in principle, measurable in a Stern-Gerlach apparatus. We chose a particular QED scattering ($e^+e^-\rightarrowμ^+μ^-$) and found that $\langle σ_x\rangle$ and $\langle σ_y\rangle$ are proportional to the total cross section ($σ_{\text{total}}$) of the $AB$ scattering, besides being maximal if $BC$'s initial state is taken as a Bell basis. Furthermore, we calculated the initial and final mutual informations $I_{AC}$ and $I_{BC}$, and noticed an increase (decrease) in $I_{AC}$ ($I_{BC}$), which indicates that, after $AB$ interact, the total amount of correlations (quantum $+$ classical) are distributed among the $3$ subsystems.

Interacting fermions in an expanding spacetime

We evaluate the effect of quantum electrodynamics on the correlations between Dirac field modes corresponding electron-positron pairs of opposite momenta generated by expansion of an asymptotically flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. The mutual information of out-going electron-positron pairs is evaluated to leading order in the coupling strength and compared with the free case. It is shown a decrease in the mutual information between the electron and positron. In addition, it is found that the change in the electron-positron mutual information depends on how the momentum is distributed between the positron and photon modes.

Lorentz-violating contributions to the nuclear Schiff moment and nuclear EDM

In the context of an atom endowed with nuclear electric dipole moment (EDM), we consider the effects on the Schiff moment of $CPT$-even Lorentz-violating (LV) terms that modify the Coulomb potential. First, we study the modifications on the Schiff moment when the nucleus interacts with the electronic cloud by means of a Coulomb potential altered only by the $P$-even LV components. Next, by supposing the existence of an additional intrinsic LV EDM generated by other LV sources, we assess the corrections to the Schiff moment when the interaction nucleus-electrons runs mediated by a Coulomb potential modified by both the $P$-odd and $P$-even LV components. We then use known estimates and EDM measurements to discuss upper bounds on the new Schiff moment components and the possibility of an intrisic nuclear EDM component ascribed to LV effects.

General CPT-even dimension-five nonminimal couplings between fermions and photons yielding EDM and MDM

In this letter, we examine a new class of CPT-even nonminimal interactions, between fermions and photons, deprived of higher order derivatives, that yields electric dipole moment (EDM) and magnetic dipole moment (MDM) in the context of the Dirac equation. The couplings are dimension-five CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal structures, composed of a rank-2 tensor, $T_{μν}$, the electromagnetic tensor, and gamma matrices, being addressed in its axial and non-axial Hermitian versions, and also comprising general possibilities. We then use the electron's anomalous magnetic dipole moment and electron electric dipole moment measurements to reach upper bounds of $1$ part in $10^{20}$ and $10^{25}$ (eV )$^{-1}$.

Constraining CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal couplings with the electron magnetic and electric dipole moments

We analyse some dimension-five CPT-even and Lorentz-violating nonminimal couplings between fermionic and gauge fields in the context of the Dirac equation. After evaluating the nonrelativistic Hamiltonian, we discuss the behavior of the terms under discrete symmetries and analyse the implied effects. We then use the anomalous magnetic dipole moment and electron electric dipole moment measurements to reach upper bounds of $1$ part in $10^{20}$ and $10^{24}$ $\left( eV\right) ^{-1}$, improving the level of restriction on such couplings by at least 8 orders of magnitude. These upper bounds are also transferred to the Sun-centered frame by considering the Earth's rotational motion.
