Concentration Compactness for Critical Radial Wave Maps

We consider radially symmetric, energy critical wave maps from (1 + 2)-dimensional Minkowski space into the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^m$, $m \geq 1$, and prove global regularity and scattering for classical smooth data of finite energy. In addition, we establish a priori bounds on a suitable scattering norm of the radial wave maps and exhibit concentration compactness properties of sequences of radial wave maps with uniformly bounded energies. This extends and complements the beautiful classical work of Christodoulou-Tahvildar-Zadeh [3, 4] and Struwe [31, 33] as well as of Nahas [22] on radial wave maps in the case of the unit sphere as the target. The proof is based upon the concentration compactness/rigidity method of Kenig-Merle [6, 7] and a "twisted" Bahouri-Gerard type profile decomposition [1], following the implementation of this strategy by the second author and Schlag [17] for energy critical wave maps into the hyperbolic plane as well as by the last two authors [16] for the energy critical Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equation.

On the almost sure global well-posedness of energy sub-critical nonlinear wave equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$

We consider energy sub-critical defocusing nonlinear wave equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$ and establish the existence of unique global solutions almost surely with respect to a unit-scale randomization of the initial data on Euclidean space. In particular, we provide examples of initial data at super-critical regularities which lead to unique global solutions. The proof is based on probabilistic growth estimates for a new modified energy functional. This work improves upon the authors' previous results in [25] by significantly lowering the regularity threshold and strengthening the notion of uniqueness.

Concentration Compactness for the Critical Maxwell-Klein-Gordon Equation

We prove global regularity, scattering and a priori bounds for the energy critical Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equation relative to the Coulomb gauge on (1+4)-dimensional Minkowski space. The proof is based upon a modified Bahouri-Gerard profile decomposition [1] and a concentration compactness/rigidity argument by Kenig-Merle [10], following the method developed by the first author and Schlag [20] in the context of critical wave maps.

Random data Cauchy theory for nonlinear wave equations of power-type on $\mathbb{R}^3$

We consider the defocusing nonlinear wave equation of power-type on $\mathbb{R}^3$. We establish an almost sure global existence result with respect to a suitable randomization of the initial data. In particular, this provides examples of initial data of super-critical regularity which lead to global solutions. The proof is based upon Bourgain's high-low frequency decomposition and improved averaging effects for the free evolution of the randomized initial data.

Mean-field quantum dynamics with magnetic fields

We consider a system of $N$ bosons in three dimensions interacting through a mean-field Coulomb potential in an external magnetic field. For initially factorized states we show that the one-particle density matrix associated with the solution of the $N$-body Schrödinger equation converges to the projection onto the solution of the magnetic Hartree equation in trace norm and in energy as $N \rightarrow \infty$. Estimates on the rate of convergence are provided.
