Dark matter and a new gauge boson through kinetic mixing

We consider a hidden sector model of dark matter which is charged under a hidden U(1)_X gauge symmetry. Kinetic mixing of U(1)_X with the Standard Model hypercharge U(1)_Y is allowed to provide communication between the hidden sector and the Standard Model sector. We present various limits on the kinetic mixing parameter and the hidden gauge coupling constant coming from various low energy observables, electroweak precision tests, and the right thermal relic density of the dark matter. Saturating these constraints, we show that the spin-independent elastic cross section of the dark matter off nucleons is mostly below the current experimental limits, but within the future sensitivity. Finally, we analyze the prospect of observing the hidden gauge boson through its dimuon decay channel at hadron colliders.

Dirac gaugino as leptophilic dark matter

We investigate the leptophilic properties of Dirac gauginos in an R--symmetric N=2 supersymmetric model with extended gauge and Higgs sectors. The annihilation of Dirac gauginos to leptons requires no chirality flip in the final states so that it is not suppressed as in the Majorana case. This implies that it can be sizable enough to explain the positron excess observed by the PAMELA experiment with moderate or no boost factors. When squark masses are heavy, the annihilation of Dirac gauginos to hadrons is controlled by their Higgsino fraction and is driven by the $hZ$ and $W^+W^-$ final states. Moreover, at variance with the Majorana case, Dirac gauginos with a non-vanishing higgsino fraction can also have a vector coupling with the $Z$ gauge boson leading to a sizable spin--independent scattering cross section off nuclei. Saturating the current antiproton limit, we show that Dirac gauginos can leave a signal in direct detection experiments at the level of the sensitivity of dark matter searches at present and in the near future.

Dark matter and sub-GeV hidden U(1) in GMSB models

Motivated by the recent PAMELA and ATIC data, one is led to a scenario with heavy vector-like dark matter in association with a hidden $U(1)_X$ sector below GeV scale. Realizing this idea in the context of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB), a heavy scalar component charged under $U(1)_X$ is found to be a good dark matter candidate which can be searched for direct scattering mediated by the Higgs boson and/or by the hidden gauge boson. The latter turns out to put a stringent bound on the kinetic mixing parameter between $U(1)_X$ and $U(1)_Y$: $θ\lesssim 10^{-6}$. For the typical range of model parameters, we find that the decay rates of the ordinary lightest neutralino into hidden gauge boson/gaugino and photon/gravitino are comparable, and the former decay mode leaves displaced vertices of lepton pairs and missing energy with distinctive length scale larger than 20 cm for invariant lepton pair mass below 0.5 GeV. An unsatisfactory aspect of our model is that the Sommerfeld effect cannot raise the galactic dark matter annihilation by more than 60 times for the dark matter mass below TeV.

511 keV $γ$-ray emission from the galactic bulge by MeV millicharged dark matter

We propose a possible explanation for the recently observed anomalous 511 keV line with a new "millicharged" fermion. This new fermion is light [${\cal O}({\rm MeV})$]. Nevertheless, it has never been observed by any collider experiments by virtue of its tiny electromagnetic charge $εe$. In particular, we constrain parameters of this millicharged particle if the 511 keV cosmic $γ$-ray emission from the galactic bulge is due to positron production from this new particle.

Galactic 511 keV line from MeV millicharged dark matter

We present a possible explanation of the recently observed 511 keV $γ$-ray anomaly with a new ``millicharged'' fermion. The new fermion is light (${\cal O}({\rm MeV})$) but has never been observed by any collider experiments mainly because of its tiny electromagnetic charge $εe$. We show that constraints from its relic density in the Universe and collider experiments allow a parameter range such that the 511 keV cosmic $γ$-ray emission from the galactic bulge may be due to positron production from this millicharged fermion.

Dynamical $U(1)_R$ Breaking in the Metastable Vacua

In the Intriligator-Seiberg-Shih model, we parametrize spontaneous breaking of $U(1)_R$ symmetry with two gauge singlets with R-charges 1 and --1. These singlets can play the role of the messengers. The messenger scale is dynamically generated, and hence there is no hierarchy problem between the supersymmetry breaking scale and the messenger scale. In the gauge mediation scenario, supersymmetry breaking scale turns out to be around $\mathcal{O}(10^6)\textrm{GeV}$.

Quantum numbers of heavy neutrinos, tri-bi-maximal mixing through double seesaw with permutation symmetry, and comment on $θ_{\rm sol}+θ_c\simeq \fracπ{4}$

Using the family symmetry, in the neutrino mass matrix we remove the Yukawa coupling (arising in the Dirac type mass between the heavy neutrinos and light lepton doublets) dependence in the double seesaw mechanism so that it is directly proportional to the mass matrix $m^{(nn)}$ of heavy Majorana neutrinos. The family symmetry is supposed to be broken spontaneously at high energy scale so that the neutrino mass matrix is given by the family symmetry at high energy scale. With the permutation symmetry $S_3$, we note a variety of possible mass hierarchies arising distinctly in neutrinos, charged leptons, $Q_{\rm em}=-\frac13$ quarks, and $Q_{\rm em}=\frac23$ quarks. Distinguishing these hierarchies, we obtain a relation between the CKM angles and the MNS angles. Finally, we comment on the approximate relation $θ_{\rm sol}+θ_c\simeq \fracπ{4}$.
