TSCoNet: A Two-Stage Copula CNN-LSTM for Uncertainty-Aware Spatio-Temporal Forecasting

Reliable forecasting of several interrelated environmental variables - such as regional precipitation and temperature, or other correlated geophysical fields - across many locations calls for accurate predictions accompanied by trustworthy statements of their uncertainty. Modern deep-learning models forecast such variables accurately but usually report no uncertainty, and forcing them to output uncertainty through maximum likelihood tends to degrade their accuracy, especially when the variables are strongly correlated. Motivated by this tension, we develop TSCoNet, a two-stage convolutional-recurrent model coupled with a Gaussian copula that jointly forecasts multiple variables over space and time while quantifying predictive uncertainty. The method first learns accurate mean forecasts and then, holding the mean fixed, refines a shared representation to estimate the predictive variance, yielding calibrated prediction intervals after a standard recalibration, so that uncertainty is added without sacrificing point accuracy. We study the approach on simulated non-stationary spatial fields on the sphere and on a real dataset of monthly precipitation and temperature for fifty cities over 2000-2020. The model matches the accuracy of a strong deterministic forecaster while supplying calibrated prediction intervals that the deterministic model cannot, giving a single tool that provides both accurate point forecasts and reliable uncertainty for multivariate spatio-temporal data.

Counterfactual Survival Q-learning via Buckley-James Boosting, with Applications to ACTG 175 and CALGB 8923

We propose a Buckley James (BJ) Boost Q learning framework for estimating optimal dynamic treatment regimes from right censored survival outcomes in longitudinal randomized clinical trials, motivated by the clinical need to support patient specific treatment decisions when follow up is incomplete and covariate effects may be nonlinear. The method combines accelerated failure time modeling with iterative boosting using flexible base learners, including componentwise least squares and regression trees, within a counterfactual Q learning framework. By modeling conditional survival time directly, BJ Boost Q learning avoids the proportional hazards assumption, yields clinically interpretable time scale contrasts, and enables estimation of stage specific Q functions and individualized decision rules under standard potential outcomes assumptions. In contrast to Cox based Q learning, which relies on hazard modeling and can be sensitive to nonproportional hazards and model misspecification, our approach provides a robust and flexible alternative for regime learning. Simulation studies and analyses of the ACTG175 HIV trial and the CALGB 8923 two stage leukemia trial show that BJ Boost Q learning improves treatment decision accuracy and produces more stable within participant counterfactual contrasts, particularly in multistage settings where estimation error and bias can compound across stages.

Deep Learning-Based Survival Analysis with Copula-Based Activation Functions for Multivariate Response Prediction

This research integrates deep learning, copula functions, and survival analysis to effectively handle highly correlated and right-censored multivariate survival data. It introduces copula-based activation functions (Clayton, Gumbel, and their combinations) to model the nonlinear dependencies inherent in such data. Through simulation studies and analysis of real breast cancer data, our proposed CNN-LSTM with copula-based activation functions for multivariate multi-types of survival responses enhances prediction accuracy by explicitly addressing right-censored data and capturing complex patterns. The model's performance is evaluated using Shewhart control charts, focusing on the average run length (ARL).

Counterfactual Q Learning via the Linear Buckley James Method for Longitudinal Survival Data

Treatment strategies are critical in healthcare, particularly when outcomes are subject to censoring. This study introduces the Counterfactual Buckley-James Q-Learning framework, which integrates the Buckley-James method with reinforcement learning to address challenges posed by censored survival data. The Buckley-James method imputes censored survival times via conditional expectations based on observed data, offering a robust mechanism for handling incomplete outcomes. By incorporating these imputed values into a counterfactual Q-learning framework, the proposed method enables the estimation and comparison of potential outcomes under different treatment strategies. This facilitates the identification of optimal dynamic treatment regimes that maximize expected survival time. Through extensive simulation studies, the method demonstrates robust performance across various sample sizes and censoring scenarios, including right censoring and missing at random (MAR). Application to real-world clinical trial data further highlights the utility of this approach in informing personalized treatment decisions, providing an interpretable and reliable tool for optimizing survival outcomes in complex clinical settings.

Multimedia Distribution Process Tracking for Android and iOS

The crime of illegally filming and distributing images or videos worldwide is increasing day by day. With the increasing penetration rate of smartphones, there has been a rise in crimes involving secretly taking pictures of people's bodies and distributing them through messengers. However, little research has been done on these related issue. The crime of distributing media using the world's popular messengers, WhatsApp and Telegram, is continuously increasing. It is also common to see criminals distributing illegal footage through various messengers to avoid being caught in the investigation network. As these crimes increase, there will continue to be a need for professional investigative personnel, and the time required for criminal investigations will continue to increase. In this paper, we propose a multimedia forensic method for tracking footprints by checking the media information that changes when images and videos shot with a smartphone are transmitted through instant messengers. We have selected 11 of the world's most popular instant messengers and two secure messengers. In addition, we selected the most widely used Android and iOS operating systems for smartphones. Through this study, we were able to confirm that it is possible to trace footprints related to the distribution of instant messengers by analyzing transmitted images and videos. Thus, it was possible to determine which messengers were used to distribute the video when it was transmitted through multiple messengers.

Real-time interactive magnetic resonance (MR) temperature imaging in both aqueous and adipose tissues using cascaded deep neural networks for MR-guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS)

Purpose: To acquire the real-time interactive temperature map for aqueous and adipose tissue, the problems of long acquisition and processing time must be addressed. To overcome these major challenges, this paper proposes a cascaded convolutional neural network (CNN) framework and multi-echo gradient echo (meGRE) with a single reference variable flip angle (srVFA). Methods: To optimize the echo times for each method, MR images are acquired using a meGRE sequence; meGRE images with two flip angles (FAs) and meGRE images with a single FA are acquired during the pretreatment and treatment stages, respectively. These images are then processed and reconstructed by a cascaded CNN, which consists of two CNNs. The first CNN (called DeepACCnet) performs HR complex MR image reconstruction from the LR MR image acquired during the treatment stage, which is improved by the HR magnitude MR image acquired during the pretreatment stage. The second CNN (called DeepPROCnet) copes with T1 mapping. Results: Measurements of temperature and T1 changes obtained by meGRE combined with srVFA and cascaded CNNs were achieved in an agarose gel phantom, ex vivo porcine muscle, and ex vivo porcine muscle with fat layers (heating tests), and in vivo human prostate and brain (non-heating tests). In the heating test, the maximum differences between fiber-optic sensor and samples are less than 1 degree Celcius. In all cases, temperature mapping using the cascaded CNN achieved the best results in all cases. The acquisition and processing times for the proposed method are 0.8 s and 32 ms, respectively. Conclusions: Real-time interactive HR MR temperature mapping for simultaneously measuring aqueous and adipose tissue is feasible by combining a cascaded CNN with meGRE and srVFA.

Study of some improved ratio type estimators using information on auxiliary attributes under second order approximation

Chakrabarty, Khoshnevisan, Sahai and Ray, Solanki suggested some estimators to estimate unknown population mean of the study variable. These authors discussed the estimators along with their first order biases and mean square errors(MSEs). In this paper, we have tried to found out the second order biases and mean square errors of some estimators using information on auxiliary attribute. We have compared the performance of the estimators with the help of a numerical illustration.

Characterization of Differentiable Copulas

This paper proposes a new class of copulas which characterize the set of all twice continuously differentiable copulas. We show that our proposed new class of copulas is a new generalized copula family that include not only asymmetric copulas but also all smooth copula families available in the current literature. Spearman's rho and Kendall's tau for our new Fourier copulas which are asymmetric are introduced. Furthermore, an approximation method is discussed in order to optimize Spearman's rho and the corresponding Kendall's tau.
