On the quantization of the noncommutative geometry inspired black hole

Black holes in noncommutative geometry background are considered to be quantized in accordance with the holographic principle. Incomplete gamma function involving the effective black hole mass is replaced by a discrete sum. The mass spectrum as well as the temperature of black holes is presented. The spectra are discrete ones but the shapes are very consistent with the known continuous results.

More than one ultimate speed and superluminal neutrinos

It is suggested that recent superluminal neutrinos from the OPERA collaboration might indicate that there are other ultimate speeds than usual speed of light in our universe. The leptonic sector of the standard model (SM) is reformulated incorporating with new ultimate speeds. In minimal cases where there is another maximum speed $c'$ which equals to the speed of the OPERA neutrinos, new effects would appear at the level of ${\cal O}(10^{-5})$. Improved precisions for the electroweak observables would check the validity of this scenario.

Superradiance by mini black holes with mirror

The superradiant scattering of massive scalar particles by a rotating mini black hole is investigated. Imposing the mirror boundary condition, the system becomes the so called black-hole bomb where the rotation energy of the black hole is transferred to the scattered particle exponentially with time. Bulk emissions as well as brane emissions are considered altogether. It is found that the largest effects are expected for the brane emission of lower angular modes with lighter mass and larger angular momentum of the black hole. Possibilities of the forming the black-hole bomb at the LHC are discussed.

Quasinormal modes of unparticle black holes

In the background of unparticle-enhanced black hole geometry, we provide the quasinormal modes of scalar, vector, and Dirac particles around it. Ungravity by tensor unparticles contributes positively to the Newtonian gravity and black holes can be formed at the LHC without any extra dimensions. In the ungravity-dominant regime, the gravity looks much like that of the Schwarzschild geometry in fractional number of extra dimensions. We argue in this analysis that quasinormal modes are good fingerprints to distinguish ungravity from extra dimensions, by showing that the unitarity constraints on ungravity forbid some of the quasinormal modes which are allowed in extra dimensions.

Black-hole bombs at the LHC

A particle scattered off by a rotating black hole can be amplified when the system is in the superradiant regime. If the system is surrounded by a mirror which reflects the particle back to the black hole the whole system forms a black-hole bomb, amplifying the original field exponentially. We show in this paper that higher dimensional black holes can also form black-hole bombs at the LHC. For a pion the $e$-folding time for the field amplification is $t_c\sim 10^{-23}-10^{-24}$ sec. If the lifetime of the black hole is long enough compared with $t_c$, we can observe severely amplified fields.

Unparticle contributions to $\Bs$-$\Bsbar$ mixing

The unparticle effects on the $\Bs$-$\Bsbar$ mixing is revisited. Taking into account the unitarity constraints on the unparticle operators, we find that the contribution of the vector unparticle is very suppressed compared to that of the scalar unparticle. This is due to the fact that the lower bound of the scaling dimension of the vector-unparticle operator is larger. It is also shown that the mixing phase from the scalar unparticle is negative, and unparticles can produce large mixing phase.

Comments on Verlinde's entropic gravity

Some comments are given on recently proposed entropic gravity by Verlinde. We focus on the derivation of Newton's law of gravitation. It is shown that consistent classical relations are enough to result in the Newtonian gravity. In our derivation, it is crucial that the entropy is a quarter of the number of states in units of the Boltzmann constant $k_ B$, and the number of states is given by the holographic principle.

Ungravity realization in fractional extra dimensions

Ungravity by tensor unparticles is realized in AdS(4+N) space through deconstruction. It is shown that ungravity is equivalent to the gravity in extra dimensions. There is a close relation between the scaling dimension of the unparticle operator and the number of extra dimensions. Consequently it is possible to discover the fractional extra dimentions, which would be a stringent signal for unparticles.

Deconstructing unparticles in higher dimensions

Unparticles are realized by deconstruction in higher extra dimensions. It is shown that in this framework when the scale invariance is broken, the corresponding spectral function of the unparticle is shifted by an amount of the breaking scale. The result strongly supports the conventional ansatz for the spectral function of the unparticle in the literature.

Unparticles and electroweak symmetry breaking

We investigate a scalar potential inspired by the unparticle sector for the electroweak symmetry breaking. The scalar potential contains the interaction between the standard model fields and unparticle sector. It is described by the non-integral power of fields that originates from the nontrivial scaling dimension of the unparticle operator. It is found that the electroweak symmetry is broken at tree level when the interaction is turned on. The scale invariance of unparticle sector is also broken simultaneously, resulting in a physical Higgs and a new lighter scalar particle.

Electroweak symmetry breaking from unparticles

A new type of scalar potential inspired by unparticles is proposed for the electroweak symmetry breaking. The interaction between the standard model fields and unparticle sector is described by the non-integral power of fields that originates from the nontrivial scaling dimension of the unparticle operator. We find that unlike the usual integral-power potential, the electroweak symmetry is broken at tree level. The scale invariance of unparticle sector is also broken simultaneously, resulting in a physical Higgs and a lighter scalar particle.

Unparticles and holography

We construct the holographic dual theory of unparticles. The Randall-Sundrum type hard wall model is shown to produce deconstructing particles, whose spectrum has a finite mass gap proportional to the inverse of the fifth direction segment. The introduction of new scale corresponds to setting a brane in ${\rm AdS}_5$. The broken conformal symmetry due to this brane is restored when it is moved to infinity. Unparticles then emerge as an infinite tower of massless particles.

Heavy quarkonium in a holographic QCD model

Encouraged by recent developments in AdS/QCD models for light quark system, we study heavy quarkonium in the framework of the AdS/QCD models. We calculate the masses of $c\bar c$ vector meson states using the AdS/QCD models at zero and at finite temperature. Among the models adopted in this work, we find that the soft wall model describes the low-lying heavy quark meson states at zero temperature relatively well. At finite temperature, we observe that once the bound state is above $T_c$, its mass will increase with temperature until it dissociates at a temperature of around $494 {\rm MeV}$. It is shown that the dissociation temperature is fixed by the infrared cutoff of the models. The present model serves as a unified non perturbative model to investigate the properties of bound quarkonium states above $T_c$.

$B$ to light meson form factors with end-point cutoff

Decay form factors of $B$ to light pseudoscalar ($P$) and vector ($V$) mesons are analyzed with the momentum cutoff near end point. The cutoff is caused by possible Cherenkov gluon radiation when an energetic light parton from the weak vertex travels through the ''brown muck'' of light degrees of freedom. The end-point singularities and the double countings are naturally absent. The soft-overlap contributions where the partonic momenta configuration is highly asymmetric are very suppressed in this framework. A simple calculation gives a plausible results for $B\to P,V$ form factors.

Taming the end-point singularities in heavy-to-light decays

It is argued that there is a fundamental momentum cutoff in heavy-to-light transitions, which is caused by possible Cherenkov gluon radiation when an energetic light parton travels through the ''brown muck''. The soft-overlap contributions where the partonic momenta configuration is highly asymmetric are disfavored, and the problematic end-point singularities and the double countings are absent in this framework. A simple calculation with a natural scale for the cutoff gives a plausible result for the $B\toπ$ form factor.

Radiative $B\to K_1$ decays in the light-cone sum rules

The weak form factor for $B\to K_{1B}$ where $K_{1B}$ is the $^1P_1$ state is calculated in the light-cone sum rules (LCSR). Combining the quark model result for the form factor of $B\to K_{1A}$ with $K_{1A}$ being the $^3P_1$ state, we have larger values for $B\to K_1$ form factors than the previous LCSR results. The increased form factors reduce the discrepancy between theory and the experimental data for $B\to K_1 γ$. Some phenomenological meanings are also discussed.

Drell-Yan process in soft-collinear effective theory near end-point

The Drell-Yan process is analyzed in soft-collinear effective theory near the end-point region. It is assumed that the relevant final-state hadron energy $Q(1-z)$ where $z$ is the momentum fraction transferred to the virtual photon is the typical hadronic scale $\simΛ$, thus no intermediate scale exists. It is shown that this setup successfully reproduces the full theory results. We also discuss the factorized soft Wilson lines for the Drell-Yan process.

Light-cone sum rules for the heavy-to-light transition in the effective theory

Heavy-to-light weak form factor is calculated using the light-cone sum rule (LCSR)in the framework of soft-collinear effective theory (SCET). There are spin-symmetric and spin-nonsymmetric contributions. Leading order spin-symmetric contribution corresponds to the ''soft overlap'' where some of the partons carry very small momentum. The next-to-leading order spin-symmetric and spin-nonsymmetric parts are characterized by a collinear gluon exchange with the spectator quark. We reproduce the full theory LCSR results and give comments on recent LCSR in SCET.
