Cosmological Kinetic Mixing

In this paper we generalize the kinetic mixing idea to time reparametrization invariant theories, namely, relativistic point particles and cosmology in order to obtain new insights for dark matter and energy. In the first example, two relativistic particles interact through an appropriately chosen coupling term. It is shown that the system can be diagonalized by means of a non-local field redefinition, and, as a result of this procedure, the mass of one the particles gets rescaled. In the second case, inspired by the previous example, two cosmological models (each with its own scale factor) are made to interact in a similar fashion. The equations of motion are solved numerically in different scenarios (dust, radiation or a cosmological constant coupled to each sector of the system). When a cosmological constant term is present, kinetic mixing rescales it to a lower value which may be more amenable to observations.

Cosmic Four-Fermion Neutrino Secret Interactions, Enhancement and Total Cross Section

The scattering of neutrinos assuming a "secret" interaction at low energy is considered. To leading order in energy, the two-body potential is a $δ$-potential, and it is used as a motivation to study generic short-range elastic interactions between neutrinos. The scattering cross section and Sommerfeld enhancement depend on two phenomenological parameters deriving from the exact form of the potential, akin to "renormalized" coupling constants. Repulsive potentials lead to a decrease in the total cross section, resulting in an enhancement of the neutrino density. For attractive potentials of the right form, substantial Sommerfeld enhancement can appear.

Analogies between nuclear physics and Dark Matter

A fermionic description of dark matter using analogies with nuclear physics is developed. At tree level, scalar and vector processes are considered and the two-body potential are explicitly calculated using the Breit approximation. We show that the total cross sections in both cases exhibit Sommerfeld enhancement.

Higgs Model Coupled to Dark Photons

A dark sector containing a Higgs field and a dark photon coupled to visible photons via a small kinetic mixing is considered. The mass of the dark gauge boson becomes rescaled by the parameter involved in the kinetic mixing. We also calculate the total annihilation cross section for scalar Higgs interacting with an external field and show that exhibits Sommerfeld enhancement. The model can be extended to a $SU(3)\times SU(2)\times U(1)$ dark sector. The mass of the dark $Z$ boson increases due to the kinetic mixing.

Cosmic Neutrino Background as a Ferromagnet

If cosmic background neutrinos interact very weakly with each other, through spin-spin interactions, then they may have experienced a phase transition, leading to a ferromagnetic ordering. The small magnetic field resulting from ferromagnetic ordering -- if present before galaxy formation -- could act as a primordial seed of the magnetic fields observed in several galaxies. Our findings suggest that the magnetization could occur in the right epoch, if the exchange boson of neutrino-neutrino interaction is a massless boson beyond the Standard Model, with a coupling constant of $2.2\times 10^{-13} \left(\frac{m_ν}{10^{-4}\,\rm{eV}}\right)^2<g<2.3\times 10^{-7}$. The estimation of the magnetic seed is $2.3 \times 10^{-27}\,\rm{G}\lesssim B_{\rm CNB}\lesssim 6.8\times 10^{-10}G$.

Effects of heavy bosonic excitations on QED vacuum

We discuss the contribution of axion-like excitations (ALE) to the vacuum birrefringence in the limit $m_A \gtrsim ω$, where $m_A$ is the mass of the excitation and $ω$ the energy of test photons interacting with an external (intense) magnetic field. The relevance of this term with respect to the QED contribution depends on the ratio $g_A/m_A$ and, from present bounds on the mass and the coupling constant $g_A$, we find that in the present low energy regime, it ranges from $10^{-14}$ to $10^2$ suggesting an interesting alternative to explore.

CPT/Lorentz Invariance Violation and Neutrino Oscillation

We analyze the consequences of violation of Lorentz and $CPT$ invariance in the massless neutrino sector by deforming the canonical anti-commutation relations for the fields. We show that, for particular choices of the deformation, oscillation between massless neutrino species takes place when only Lorentz invariance is violated. On the other hand, if both Lorentz and $CPT$ invariances are violated, we show that there is no oscillation between massless neutrino species. Comparing with the existing experimental data on neutrino oscillations, we obtain bounds on the parameter for Lorentz invariance violation.

CPT/Lorentz Invariance Violation and Quantum Field Theory

Analogies between the noncommutative harmonic oscillator and noncommutative fields are analyzed. Following this analogy we construct examples of quantum fields theories with explicit CPT and Lorentz symmetry breaking. Some applications to baryogenesis and neutrino oscillation are also discussed

Matter-antimatter asymmetry without departure from thermal equilibrium

We explore the possibility of baryogenesis without departure from thermal equilibrium. A possible scenario is found, though it contains strong constraints on the size of the $CPT$ violation ($CPTV$) effects and on the role of the $B$ (baryon number) nonconserving interactions which are needed for it.

Chiral bosonization for non-commutative fields

A model of chiral bosons on a non-commutative field space is constructed and new generalized bosonization (fermionization) rules for these fields are given. The conformal structure of the theory is characterized by a level of the Kac-Moody algebra equal to $(1+ θ^2)$ where $θ$ is the non-commutativity parameter and chiral bosons living in a non-commutative fields space are described by a rational conformal field theory with the central charge of the Virasoro algebra equal to 1. The non-commutative chiral bosons are shown to correspond to a free fermion moving with a speed equal to $ c^{\prime} = c \sqrt{1+θ^2} $ where $c$ is the speed of light. Lorentz invariance remains intact if $c$ is rescaled by $c \to c^{\prime}$. The dispersion relation for bosons and fermions, in this case, is given by $ω= c^{\prime} | k|$.

Light-cone quantization of two dimensional field theory in the path integral approach

A quantization condition due to the boundary conditions and the compatification of the light cone space-time coordinate $x^-$ is identified at the level of the classical equations for the right-handed fermionic field in two dimensions. A detailed analysis of the implications of the implementation of this quantization condition at the quantum level is presented. In the case of the Thirring model one has selection rules on the excitations as a function of the coupling and in the case of the Schwinger model a double integer structure of the vacuum is derived in the light-cone frame. Two different quantized chiral Schwinger models are found, one of them without a $θ$-vacuum structure. A generalization of the quantization condition to theories with several fermionic fields and to higher dimensions is presented.

Three aspects of bosonized supersymmetry and linear differential field equation with reflection

Recently it was observed by one of the authors that supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM) admits a formulation in terms of only one bosonic degree of freedom. Such a construction, called the minimally bosonized SUSYQM, appeared in the context of integrable systems and dynamical symmetries. We show that the minimally bosonized SUSYQM can be obtained from Witten's SUSYQM by applying to it a nonlocal unitary transformation with a subsequent reduction to one of the eigenspaces of the total reflection operator. The transformation depends on the parity operator, and the deformed Heisenberg algebra with reflection, intimately related to parabosons and parafermions, emerges here in a natural way. It is shown that the minimally bosonized SUSYQM can also be understood as supersymmetric two-fermion system. With this interpretation, the bosonization construction is generalized to the case of N=1 supersymmetry in 2 dimensions. The same special unitary transformation diagonalises the Hamiltonian operator of the 2D massive free Dirac theory. The resulting Hamiltonian is not a square root like in the Foldy-Wouthuysen case, but is linear in spatial derivative. Subsequent reduction to `up' or `down' field component gives rise to a linear differential equation with reflection whose `square' is the massive Klein-Gordon equation. In the massless limit this becomes the self-dual Weyl equation. The linear differential equation with reflection admits generalizations to higher dimensions and can be consistently coupled to gauge fields. The bosonized SUSYQM can also be generated applying the nonlocal unitary transformation to the Dirac field in the background of a nonlinear scalar field in a kink configuration.

A Nambu-Jona-Lasinio like model from QCD at low energies

A generalization to any dimension of the fermion field transformation which allows to derive the solution of the massless Schwinger model in the path integral framework is identified. New arguments based on this transformation for a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) like model as the low energy limit of a gauge theory in dimension greater than two are presented. Our result supports the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking picture conjectured by Nambu many years ago and the link between QCD, NJL and chiral models.

Classical anomalies for spinning particles

We discuss the phenomenon of classical anomaly. It is observed for 3D Berezin-Marinov (BM), Barducci-Casalbuoni-Lusanna (BCL) and Cortes-Plyushchay-Velazquez (CPV) pseudoclassical spin particle models. We show that quantum mechanically these different models correspond to the same P,T-invariant system of planar fermions, but the quantum system has global symmetries being not reproducible classically in full in any of the models. We demonstrate that the specific U(1) gauge symmetry characterized by the opposite coupling constants of spin s=+1/2 and s=-1/2 states has a natural classical analog in CPV model but can be reproduced in BM and BCL models in an obscure and rather artificial form. We also show that BM and BCL models quantum mechanically are equivalent in any odd-dimensional space-time, but describe different quantum systems in even space-time dimensions.

Anyons in 1+1 Dimensions

The possibility of excitations with fractional spin and statististics in $1+1$ dimensions is explored. The configuration space of a two-particle system is the half-line. This makes the Hamiltonian self-adjoint for a family of boundary conditions parametrized by one real number $γ$. The limit $γ\rightarrow 0, (\infty$) reproduces the propagator of non-relativistic particles whose wavefunctions are even (odd) under particle exchange. A relativistic ansatz is also proposed which reproduces the correct Polyakov spin factor for the spinning particle in $1+1$ dimensions. These checks support validity of the interpretation of $γ$ as a parameter related to the ``spin'' that interpolates continuously between bosons ($γ=0$) and fermions ($γ=\infty$). Our approach can thus be useful for obtaining the propagator for one-dimensional anyons.
