Two-gluon one-photon vertex in a magnetic field and its explicit one-loop approximation in the intermediate field strength regime

We find the general structure for the two-gluon one-photon vertex in the presence of a constant magnetic field. We show that, when accounting for the symmetries satisfied by the strong and electromagnetic interactions under parity, charge conjugation and gluon interchange, and for gluons and photons on mass-shell, there exist only three possible tensor structures that span the vertex. These correspond to external products of the polarization vectors for each of the particles in the vertex. We also explicitly compute the one-loop approximation to this vertex in the intermediate field strength regime, which is the most appropriate one to describe possible effects of the presence of a magnetic field to enhance photon emission during pre-equilibrium in peripheral relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We show that the most favored direction for the photon to propagate is in the plane transverse to the field, which is consistent with a positive contribution to $ν_2$ and may help to understand the larger than expected elliptic flow coefficient measured in this kind of reactions.

Scalar boson emission from a magnetized relativistic plasma

We investigate the differential emission rate of neutral scalar bosons from a highly magnetized relativistic plasma. We show that three processes contribute at the leading order: particle splitting ($ψ\rightarrow ψ+ϕ$), antiparticle splitting ($\barψ \rightarrow \barψ+ϕ$), and particle-antiparticle annihilation ($ψ+ \barψ\rightarrow ϕ$). This is in contrast to the scenario with zero magnetic field, where only the annihilation processes contribute to boson production. We examine the impact of Landau-level quantization on the energy dependence of the rate and investigate the angular distribution of emitted scalar bosons. The differential rate resulting from both (anti)particle splitting and annihilation processes are typically suppressed in the direction of the magnetic field and enhanced in perpendicular directions. Overall, the background magnetic field significantly amplifies the total emission rate. We speculate that our model calculations provide valuable theoretical insights with potentially important applications.

Particle interaction strengths modified by magnetic fields

Magnetic fields are everywhere in the Universe and in our everyday life and many processes are affected by their presence, generating a rich phenomenology that depends also on other possible external agents. We review here some results, both from our workgroup and from other research groups, about the effect of magnetic fields on particles interaction processes, focusing mainly on recent results, but without losing sight on early seminal works on this topic. A vast assortment of physical situations and of analytical and numerical approaches can be found in the literature in this subject, making the comparison between them not straightforward. Our aim is to focus attention on differences and similarities between the different situations and approaches, looking for a systematization scheme that could be predictive, once the role played by each physical ingredient could be understood. The main purpose of this work is to find some physical explanations of the ongoing processes.

Interaction field strength between a scalar particle and two massless vector bosons in presence of an external magnetic field

In this work we study the interaction strength among a neutral scalar boson and two massless vector bosons in presence of an external magnetic field. Based on global symmetries, we build the general tensor structure amplitude $\mathcal{M}^{μν}$, for the process $V^μ+V^ν\longrightarrowϕ$, in terms of the vector bosons polarization states. Then, we present a novel methodology to compute the one-loop amplitude contributions for an homogeneous magnetic field with arbitrary strength. With the obtained results, expressed in terms of integrals over Schwinger parameters, we explore its behavior in two regions, widely used in the literature, the strong and weak field strength regions. The methodology presented in this work can be employed to compute an arbitrary process in presence of an external magnetic field where the initial and final states are neutral.

Response to an External Magnetic Field of the Decay Rate of a Neutral Scalar Field into a Charged Fermion Pair

In this work we explore the effects of a weak magnetic field on the decay process of a neutral scalar boson into a pair of charged fermions in vacuum. Since the analytical computation of the decay width needs of some approximation, following two different approaches, we study the low and high transverse momentum limits. Our findings indicate that the magnetic field effect depends on the kinematics of the scalar particle.
