The VVA correlator at three loops in perturbative QCD

It is known that the correlator of one axial and two vector currents, that receives leading contributions through one-loop fermion triangle diagrams, is not modified by QCD radiative corrections at two loops. It was suggested that this non-renormalization of the VVA correlator persists in higher orders in perturbative QCD as well. To check this assertion, we compute the three-loop QCD corrections to the VAA-correlator u sing the technique of asymptotic expansions. We find that these corrections do not vanish and that they are proportional to the QCD beta-function.

Magnetic moment of a bound electron

Theoretical predictions underlying determinations of the fine structure constant alpha and the electron-to-proton mass ratio m_e/m_p are reviewed, with the emphasis on the bound electron magnetic anomaly g-2. The theory of the interaction of hydrogen-like ions with a magnetic field is discussed. The status of efforts aimed at the determination of O(alpha (Z alpha)^5) and O(alpha^2 (Z alpha)^5) corrections to the g factor is presented. The reevaluation of analogous corrections to the Lamb shift and the hyperfine splitting is summarized.

Radiative-nonrecoil corrections of order alpha^2 (Z alpha)^5 to the Lamb shift

We present results for the corrections of order alpha^2 (Z alpha)^5 to the Lamb shift. We compute all the contributing Feynman diagrams in dimensional regularization and a general covariant gauge using a mixture of analytical and numerical methods. We confirm results obtained by other groups and improve their precision. Values of the 32 master integrals for this and similar problems are provided.

Two-loop corrections to the Lamb shift

We present a new calculation of the order alpha^2 (Z alpha)^5 correction to the Lamb shift, which uses methods developed for multi-loop calculations.

Deep inelastic scattering and factorization in the 't Hooft Model

We study in detail deep inelastic scattering in the 't Hooft model. We are able to analytically check current conservation and to obtain analytic expressions for the matrix elements with relative precision O(1/Q^2) for 1-x >> β^2/Q^2. This allows us to compute the electron-meson differential cross section and its moments with 1/Q^2 precision. For the former we find maximal violations of quark-hadron duality, as it is expected for a large N_c analysis. For the latter we find violations of the operator product expansion at next-to-leading order in the 1/Q^2 expansion.

Breakdown of the operator product expansion in the 't Hooft model

We consider deep inelastic scattering in the 't Hooft model. Being solvable, this model allows us to directly compute the moments associated with the cross section at next-to-leading order in the 1/Q^2 expansion. We perform the same computation using the operator product expansion. We find that all the terms match in both computations except for one in the hadronic side, which is proportional to a non-local operator. The basics of the result suggest that a similar phenomenon may occur in four dimensions in the large N_c limit.

1/N_c and 1/n preasymptotic corrections to Current-Current correlators

We obtain the corrections in $1/n$ and in $1/\ln n$ ($n$ is the principal quantum number of the bound state) of the decay constants of scalar and pseudoscalar currents in two and four dimensions in the large $N_c$. We obtain them from the operator product expansion provided a model for the large $n$ mass spectrum is given. In the two-dimensional case the spectrum is known and the corrections obtained in this paper are model independent. We confirm these results by confronting them with the numerical solution of the 't Hooft model. We also consider a model at finite $N_c$ and obtain the associated decay constants that are consistent with perturbation theory. This example shows that that the inclusion of perturbative corrections, or finite $N_c$ effects, to the OPE does not constrain the slope of the Regge trajectories, which remain a free parameter for each different channel.

Constraints on Regge models from perturbation theory

We study the constraints that the operator product expansion imposes on large $N_c$ inspired QCD models for current-current correlators. We focus on the constraints obtained by going beyond the leading-order parton computation. We explicitly show that, assumed a given mass spectrum: linear Regge behavior in $n$ (the principal quantum number) plus corrections in $1/n$, we can obtain the logarithmic (and constant) behavior in $n$ of the decay constants within a systematic expansion in $1/n$. Our example shows that it is possible to have different large $n$ behavior for the vector and pseudo-vector mass spectrum and yet comply with all the constraints from the operator product expansion.

The nucleon-nucleon potential beyond the static approximation

We point out that, due to the use of static nucleon propagators in Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory, the current calculations of the nucleon-nucleon potential miss certain contributions starting at two loops. These contributions give rise to contact interactions, which are both parametrically and numerically more important than the so called NNLO potentials. They show a peculiar dependence on the light quark masses, which should be taken into account when performing chiral extrapolations of lattice data. However, they do not appear to have an impact on phenomenology since they can be absorbed into redefinitions of unknown parameters which are usually fitted to data.

Heavy meson semileptonic decays in two dimensions in the large Nc

We study QCD in 1+1 dimensions in the large Nc limit using light-front Hamiltonian perturbation theory in the 1/Nc expansion. We use this formalism to exactly compute hadronic transition matrix elements for arbitrary currents at leading order in 1/Nc, which we use to write the semileptonic differential decay rate of a heavy meson and its moments. We then compare with the results obtained using an effective field theory approach based on perturbative factorization, with the intention of better understanding quark-hadron duality. A very good numerical agreement is obtained between the exact result and the result using effective theories.

Heavy meson semileptonic differential decay rate in two dimensions in the large Nc

We study QCD in 1+1 dimensions in the large $N_c$ limit using light-front Hamiltonian perturbation theory in the $1/N_c$ expansion. We use this formalism to exactly compute hadronic transition matrix elements for arbitrary currents at leading order in $1/N_c$. We compute the semileptonic differential decay rate of a heavy meson, $dΓ/dx$, and its moments, $M_N$, using the hadronic matrix elements obtained previously. We put some emphasis in trying to understand parity invariance. We also study with special care the kinematic region where the operator product expansion ($1/N \sim 1-x \sim 1$) or non-local effective field theories ($1/N \sim 1-x \sim Λ_{QCD}/m_Q$) can be applied. We then compare with the results obtained using an effective field theory approach based on perturbative factorization, with the focus to better understand quark-hadron duality. At the end of the day, using effective field theories, we have been able to obtain expressions for the moments with relative accuracy of $O(Λ_{QCD}^2/m_Q^2)$ in the kinematic region where the operator product expansion can be applied, and with relative accuracy of $O(Λ_{QCD}/m_Q)$ in the kinematic region where non-local effective field theories can be applied. These expressions agree, within this precision, with those obtained from the hadronic result using the layer-function approximation plus Euler-McLaurin expansion. Very good numerical agreement for the moments is obtained between the exact result and the result using effective field theories.
