On Exposed (Symmetric) Tensors

We provide an example of a projective tensor product whose unit ball contains an exposed tensor which is not elementary. We then transfer the construction to the symmetric projective tensor product and obtain an analogous result in that setting. Finally, we extend both constructions to projective tensor products with an arbitrary number of factors and to symmetric projective tensor products of every degree.

Concentration theorems for $2$-homogeneous polynomials and bilinear forms with applications to the Kadec-Klee properties

We study Kadec-Klee properties in spaces of homogeneous polynomials and multilinear forms by presenting optimal results. Indeed, our main tool is a family of concentration theorems showing that, on suitable $p$-convex Banach sequence lattices, a $2$-homogeneous polynomial or a bilinear form which almost attains its norm at finitely supported vectors is uniformly close to its restriction to the corresponding finite set of coordinates. As a consequence, we obtain the weak-star uniform Kadec-Klee property for spaces of complex $2$-homogeneous polynomials and complex bilinear forms on $p$-convex Banach sequence lattices with constant one for some $p>2$. This applies, in particular, to $c_0$, $\ell_p$, Lorentz spaces $d(w,p)$, Garling spaces $g(w,p)$, among others. In the real setting, a concentration argument based on the modulus of convexity of power type yields further positive results for spaces of operators and bilinear forms, extending previous results in the literature. We also prove that the restriction $p>2$ is optimal for $2$-homogeneous polynomials on $\ell_p$, $d(w,p)$ and $g(w,p)$, and establish general failures of the sequential weak-star Kadec-Klee property for real homogeneous polynomials of degree at least two and for complex homogeneous polynomials and symmetric multilinear forms of degree at least three. These results show that our positive results are optimal respect to the degree and that the assumption $p>2$ is optimal for the classical spaces $\ell_p$, $d(w,p)$ and $g(w,p)$. As a consequence of our results, we establish the strong subdifferentiability of the associated projective and symmetric projective tensor norms.

Fourier inequalities in variable Lebesgue spaces

We study the boundedness of the Fourier transform on variable Lebesgue spaces. We obtain necessary conditions and, independently, sufficient conditions on the exponents $p(\cdot)$ and $q(\cdot)$ under which the inequality $$\|\hat{f}\|_{q(\cdot)}\leq C\|f\|_{p(\cdot)}$$ holds for some constant $C>0$ and all $f\in L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R})$. As a byproduct, we improve some recent results of Saucedo and Tikhonov. Moreover, when $p(x)\to 1$ and $q(x)\to +\infty$ as $|x|\to +\infty$, we characterize the exponents for which the Fourier transform is bounded.

New insights into Gleason parts for an algebra of holomorphic functions

We study the structure of the spectrum of the algebra of uniformly continuous holomorphic functions on the unit ball of $\ell_p$. Our main focus is the relationship between \emph{Gleason parts} and \emph{fibers}. For every $z \in B_{\ell_p}$ with $1 < p < \infty$, we prove that the fiber over $z$ contains $2^{\mathfrak{c}}$ distinct Gleason parts. We also investigate some of the properties of these Gleason parts and show the existence of many strong boundary points in certain fibers. We then examine the case $p = 1$, where similar results on the abundance of Gleason parts within the fibers hold, although the arguments required are more involved. Our results extend and complete earlier work on the subject, providing answers to previously posed questions.

A $2$-dimensional real Banach space with constant of analyticity less than one

We show that on the real $2$-dimensional Banach space $\ell_1^2$ there is an analytic function $f:B_{\ell_1^2}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ such that its power series at origin has radius of uniform convergence one, but for some $a\in B_{\ell_1^2}$ the power series centred at that point has radius of uniform convergence strictly less than $1-\|a\|$. This result highlights a fundamental distinction in real analytic functions (compared to complex analytic functions), where the radius of analyticity can differ from the radius of uniform convergence. Moreover, this example provides the first non-trivial upper bound for the constant of analyticity.

On the strong subdifferentiability of the homogeneous polynomials and (symmetric) tensor products

In this paper, we study the (uniform) strong subdifferentiability of the norms of the Banach spaces $\mathcal{P}(^N X, Y^*)$, $X \hat{\otimes}_π\cdots \hat{\otimes}_πX$ and $\hat{\otimes}_{π_s,N} X$. Among other results, we characterize when the norms of the spaces $\mathcal{P}(^N \ell_p, \ell_{q}), \mathcal{P}(^N l_{M_1}, l_{M_2})$, and $\mathcal{P}(^N d(w,p), l_{M_2})$ are strongly subdifferentiable. Analogous results for multilinear mappings are also obtained. Since strong subdifferentiability of a dual space implies reflexivity, we improve some known results on the reflexivity of spaces of $N$-homogeneous polynomials and $N$-linear mappings. Concerning the projective (symmetric) tensor norms, we provide positive results on the subsets $U$ and $U_s$ of elementary tensors on the unit spheres of $X \hat{\otimes}_π\cdots \hat{\otimes}_πX$ and $\hat{\otimes}_{π_s,N} X$, respectively. Specifically, we prove that $\hat{\otimes}_{π_s,N} \ell_2$ and $\ell_2 \hat{\otimes}_π\cdots \hat{\otimes}_π\ell_2$ are uniformly strongly subdifferentiable on $U_s$ and $U$, respectively, and that $c_0 \hat{\otimes}_{π_s} c_0$ and $c_0 \hat{\otimes}_πc_0$ are strongly subdifferentiable on $U_s$ and $U$, respectively, in the complex case.

Homomorphisms on algebras of analytic functions on non-symmetrically regular spaces

We study homomorphisms on the algebra of analytic functions of bounded type on a Banach space. When the domain space lacks symmetric regularity, we show that in every fiber of the spectrum there are evaluations (in higher duals) which do not coincide with evaluations in the second dual. We also consider the commutativity of convolutions between evaluations. We show that in some Banach spaces $X$ (for example, $X=\ell_1$) the only evaluations that commute with every other evaluation in $X''$ are those in $X$. Finally, we establish conditions ensuring the symmetry of the canonical extension of a symmetric multilinear operator (on a non-symmetrically regular space) and present some applications.

On the rank and the approximation of symmetric tensors

In this work we study different notions of ranks and approximation of tensors. We consider the tensor rank, the nuclear rank and we introduce the notion of symmetric decomposable rank, a notion of rank defined only on symmetric tensors. We show that when approximating symmetric tensors, using the symmetric decomposable rank has some significant advantages over the tensor rank and the nuclear rank.

The polarization constant of finite dimensional complex spaces is one

The polarization constant of a Banach space $X$ is defined as $$\mathbf c(X):= \limsup\limits_{k\rightarrow \infty} \mathbf c(k, X)^\frac{1}{k},$$ where $\mathbf c(k, X)$ stands for the best constant $C>0$ such that $ \Vert \overset{\vee}{P} \Vert \leq C \Vert P \Vert$ for every $k$-homogeneous polynomial $P \in \mathcal P(^kX)$. We show that if $X$ is a finite dimensional complex space then $\mathbf c(X)=1$. We derive some consequences of this fact regarding the convergence of analytic functions on such spaces. The result is no longer true in the real setting. Here we relate this constant with the so-called Bochnak's complexification procedure. We also study some other properties connected with polarization. Namely, we provide necessary conditions related with the geometry of $X$ for $\mathbf c(2,X)=1$ to hold. Additionally we link polarization's constants with certain estimates of the nuclear norm of the product of polynomials.

Symmetric multilinear forms on Hilbert spaces: where do they attain their norm?

We characterize the sets of norm one vectors $\mathbf{x}_1,\ldots,\mathbf{x}_k$ in a Hilbert space $\mathcal H$ such that there exists a $k$-linear symmetric form attaining its norm at $(\textbf{x}_1,\ldots,\mathbf{x}_k)$. We prove that in the bilinear case, any two vectors satisfy this property. However, for $k\ge 3$ only collinear vectors satisfy this property in the complex case, while in the real case this is equivalent to $\mathbf{x}_1,\ldots,\mathbf{x}_k$ spanning a subspace of dimension at most 2. We use these results to obtain some applications to symmetric multilinear forms, symmetric tensor products and the exposed points of the unit ball of $\mathcal L_s(^k\mathcal{H})$.

On the linear polarization constants of finite dimensional spaces

We study the linear polarization constants of finite dimensional Banach spaces. We obtain the correct asymptotic behaviour of these constants for the spaces $\ell_p^d$: they behave as $\sqrt[p]{d}$ if $1\le p\le 2$ and as $\sqrt{d}$ if $2\le p<\infty$. For $p=\infty$ we get the asymptotic behavior up to a logarithmic factor

Non-linear Plank Problems and polynomial inequalities

We study lower bounds for the norm of the product of polynomials and their applications to the so called \emph{plank problem.} We are particularly interested in polynomials on finite dimensional Banach spaces, in which case our results improve previous works when the number of polynomials is large.

On the norm of products of polynomials on ultraproduct of Banach spaces

The purpose of this article is to study the problem of finding sharp lower bounds for the norm of the product of polynomials in the ultraproducts of Banach spaces $(X_i)_{\mathfrak U}$. We show that, under certain hypotheses, there is a strong relation between this problem and the same problem for the spaces $X_i$.

Lower bounds for norms of products of polynomials on $L_p$ spaces

For $1< p <2$ we obtain sharp inequalities for the supremum of products of homogeneous polynomials on $L_p(μ)$, whenever the number of factors is no greater than the dimension of these Banach spaces (a condition readily satisfied in the infinite dimensional settings). The results also holds for the Schatten classes $\mathcal S_p$. For $p>2$ we present some estimates on the involved constants.
