Small-time approximation of the transition density for diffusions with singularities. Application to the Wright-Fisher model

The Wright-Fisher (W-F) diffusion model serves as a foundational framework for interpreting population evolution through allele frequency dynamics over time. Despite the known transition probability between consecutive generations, an exact analytical expression for the transition density at arbitrary time intervals remains elusive. Commonly utilized distributions such as Gaussian or Beta inadequately address the fixation issue at extreme allele frequencies (0 or 1), particularly for short periods. In this study, we introduce two alternative parametric functions, namely the Asymptotic Expansion (AE) and the Gaussian approximation (GaussA), derived through probabilistic methodologies, aiming to better approximate this density. The AE function provides a suitable density for allele frequency distributions, encompassing extreme values within the interval [0,1]. Additionally, we outline the range of validity for the GaussA approximation. While our primary focus is on W-F diffusion, we demonstrate how our findings extend to other diffusion models featuring singularities. Through simulations of allele frequencies under a W-F process and employing a recently developed adaptive density estimation method, we conduct a comparative analysis to assess the fit of the proposed densities against the Beta and Gaussian distributions.

Kac-Rice formula: A contemporary overview of the main results and applications

The book develops the fundamental ideas of the famous Kac-Rice formula for vectorvalued random fields. This formula allows to compute the expectation and moments of the measure, and integrals with respect to this measure, of the sets of levels of such fields. After a presentation of the historical context of the Kac-Rice formula, we give an elementary demonstration of the co-area formula. This formula replaces the change of variable formula in multiple integrals and a direct application of this formula gives the Kac-Rice formula for almost all levels. We emphasize the necessity of having the formula for all levels, because for some applications one needs, for example, the formula for level zero.

On 3-dimensional Berry's model

This work aims to study the dislocation or nodal lines of 3D Berry's random wave model. Their expected length is computed both in the isotropic and anisotropic cases, being them compared. Afterwards, in the isotropic case the asymptotic variance and distribution of the length are obtained as the domain grows to the whole space. Under some integrability condition on the covariance function, a central limit theorem is established. The study includes the Berry's monochromatic random waves, the Bargmann-Fock model and the Black-Body radiation as well as a power law model that exhibits an unusual asymptotic behaviour and yields a non-central limit theorem.

Central Limit Theorem for the number of real roots of Kostlan Shub Smale random polynomial systems

We obtain a Central Limit Theorem for the normalized number of real roots of a square Kostlan-Shub-Smale random polynomial system of any size as the degree goes to infinity. A study of the asymptotic variance of the number of roots is needed, this result was obtained in [2]. Afterwards we represent the number of roots as an explicit non linear functional belonging to the It{ô}-Wiener chaos. This representation provides a tool for applying the Fourth Moment Theorem and henceforth the asymptotic normality. MSC 2010 subject classifications: Primary 60F05, 30C15, ; secondary 60G60, 65H10.

Local universality of the number of zeros of random trigonometric polynomials with continuous coefficients

Let $X_N$ be a random trigonometric polynomial of degree $N$ with iid coefficients and let $Z_N(I)$ denote the (random) number of its zeros lying in the compact interval $I\subset\mathbb{R}$. Recently, a number of important advances were made in the understanding of the asymptotic behaviour of $Z_N(I)$ as $N\to\infty$, in the case of standard Gaussian coefficients. The main theorem of the present paper is a universality result, that states that the limit of $Z_N(I)$ does not really depend on the exact distribution of the coefficients of $X_N$. More precisely, assuming that these latter are iid with mean zero and unit variance and have a density satisfying certain conditions, we show that $Z_N(I)$ converges in distribution toward $Z(I)$, the number of zeros within $I$ of the centered stationary Gaussian process admitting the cardinal sine for covariance function.
