Dynamic Modeling, Efficiency Analysis, and Hierarchical Control of Industrial Airborne Pulp Dryers

A first-principles dynamic modeling and control framework for industrial airborne pulp dryers is presented. The proposed nonlinear model integrates airflow, pressure, moisture, psychrometric, heat-transfer, and fan electromechanical dynamics within a unified state-space formulation. An efficiency analysis framework incorporating overall efficiency, thermal efficiency, fan efficiency, and specific moisture evaporation ratio (SMER) is also developed. To enhance process performance, a hierarchical DSM-based control architecture combining cascade and non-cascade control loops with supervisory optimization is proposed. The model was implemented in MATLAB/Simulink and evaluated under thermal, compositional, hydraulic, and mechanical disturbances. Simulation results demonstrated accurate moisture regulation, effective disturbance rejection, and favorable energetic performance, achieving an overall efficiency of 85.8%, a thermal efficiency of 86.9%, and an average SMER of 1.39 kg/kWh. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this work represents one of the first comprehensive dynamic modeling and control studies of industrial airborne pulp dryers and provides a proof-of-concept platform for future digital-twin, advanced control, and energy-optimization applications.

Dynamic Modeling of Magneto-Active Grounding Electrodes under Transient Conditions

Grounding systems operating under transient electromagnetic conditions exhibit highly nonlinear behavior influenced by electromagnetic propagation, soil conductivity variations, thermal diffusion, moisture transport, and ionization phenomena. Conventional grounding analyses generally rely on static resistance formulations that neglect the coupled dynamics governing advanced grounding technologies. In particular, rigorous dynamic models describing magneto-active grounding electrode (MAGE) systems remain practically nonexistent within the current scientific literature. A comprehensive nonlinear dynamic model for a MAGE system is therefore developed considering electromagnetic coupling, dynamic grounding impedance behavior, conductivity adaptation, electrothermal effects, moisture-dependent soil dynamics, and nonlinear ionization mechanisms. The proposed formulation was implemented in the MATLAB/Simulink environment and evaluated under combined step and impulsive transient excitation conditions. The obtained results demonstrate that the equivalent grounding impedance evolves dynamically according to environmental and electromagnetic operating conditions, confirming that grounding systems cannot be accurately represented through constant-parameter formulations under transient conditions. Furthermore, the simulations reveal stable nonlinear coupling among electromagnetic, conductive, thermal, and moisture-dependent phenomena. The proposed framework constitutes a proof-of-concept analytical basis for future transient analysis and optimization of advanced magneto-active grounding technologies.

Nonlinear Multiphysics Modeling of Batch Digester Discharge Dynamics with Rheology-Driven Hydraulic Transport and Drainability Coupling

Batch digester blowdown operations exhibit highly nonlinear hydraulic transport dynamics due to evolving slurry consistency and rheological uncertainty. This work presents a nonlinear dynamic model and a robust Sliding Mode Control (SMC) strategy for discharge-flow regulation in industrial batch digester systems. The proposed framework incorporates non-Newtonian slurry rheology, consistency-dependent hydraulic resistance, drainability effects, channeling phenomena, and nonlinear hydraulic transport behavior.

Non-Ideal Two-Level Battery Charger-Modeling and Simulation

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of a two-level battery charger for electric vehicles, focusing on modeling, simulation, and performance evaluation. The proposed charger topology employs two switches operating complementarily, along with essential components such as inductors, capacitors, and batteries. Detailed modeling in steady-state and dynamic regimes reveals the influence of nonlinearities, particularly switch and energy storage element characteristics, on charger efficiency and performance. Efficiency calculations highlight the significance of precise modeling and control strategies. Controller synthesis involves designing a robust proportional-integral compensator for effective battery charging current regulation. Analysis of non-idealities underscores the need for accurate component sizing and control strategies. The findings provide valuable insights for optimizing charger design and control, with implications for enhancing electric vehicle performance and reliability.
