Gradient estimates for a parabolic partial differential equation under the Ricci-Bourguignon flow

We study the Ricci-Bourguignon flow on warped product manifolds with noncompact base. This setting leads naturally to a parabolic partial differential equation on the space of smooth warping functions, arising from the necessary and sufficient conditions for a warped metric to evolve under the flow. One of our main results establishes a gradient estimate for this equation, providing the analytic input for the geometric applications developed herein and, in particular, recovering classical gradient estimates for the heat equation under the Ricci flow. Furthermore, we develop a method for constructing explicit warped product solutions to the Ricci-Bourguignon flow and present examples that illustrate the scope and geometric relevance of our results

A note on Huisken monotonicity-type formula for the mean curvature flow in a gradient shrinking extended Ricci soliton background

We give an application of a Huisken monotonicity-type formula for the mean curvature flow in a compact smooth manifold with a Riemannian metric that evolves by a shrinking self-similar solution of the extended Ricci flow. Our investigation builds on previous articles by Huisken and the third author, as we apply their techniques to establish new results in this geometric setting. Moreover, under some natural geometric assumptions, the noncompact case is also solved

Mean curvature flow into an ambient Riemannian manifold evolving by Ricci flow coupled with harmonic map heat flow

The main objective of this article is to study the mean curvature flow into an ambient compact smooth manifold M with boundary and with a Riemannian metric that evolves by a self-similar solution of the Ricci flow coupled with the harmonic map heat flow of a map from M to a Riemannian manifold N. In this context, we address a functional associated with this flow and calculate its variation along parameters that preserve the weighted volume measure. An extension of Hamilton's differential Harnack expression appears by considering the boundary of M evolving by mean curvature flow, which must vanish on the gradient steady soliton case. Next, we obtain a Huisken monotonicity-type formula for the mean curvature flow in the proposed background. We also show how to construct a family of mean curvature solitons and establish a characterization of such a family.

Eigenvalue estimates for a class of elliptic differential operators in divergence form on Riemannian manifolds isometrically immersed in Euclidean space

In this paper, we obtain eigenvalue estimates for a larger class of elliptic differential operators in divergence form on a bounded domain in a complete Riemannian manifold isometrically immersed in Euclidean space. As an application, we give eigenvalue estimates in the Gaussian shrinking soliton, and we find a domain that makes the behavior of these estimates similar to the estimates for the case of the Laplacian. Moreover, we also give an answer to the generalized conjecture of Pólya.

Mean curvature flow in an extended Ricci flow background

In this paper, we consider functionals related to mean curvature flow in an ambient space which evolves by an extended Ricci flow from the perspective introduced by Lott when studying a mean curvature flow in a Ricci flow background. One of them is a weighted extended version of the Gibbons-Hawking-York action on Riemannian metrics in compact manifolds with boundary. We compute its variational properties from which naturally arise boundary conditions to the analysis of its time-derivative under Perelman's modified extended Ricci flow. For instance, the boundary integrand term provides an extension of Hamilton's differential Harnack expression for mean curvature flows in Euclidean space. We also derive the evolution equations for both the second fundamental form and the mean curvature under mean curvature flow in an extended Ricci flow background. In the special case of gradient solitons to the extended Ricci flow, we discuss mean curvature solitons and establish a Huisken's monotonicity-type formula. We show how to construct a family of mean curvature solitons and establish a characterization of such a family. Also, we show how for constructing examples of mean curvature solitons in an extended Ricci flow background.

Estimates of eigenvalues of an elliptic differential system in divergence form

In this paper, we compute universal estimates of eigenvalues of a coupled system of elliptic differential equations in divergence form on a bounded domain in Euclidean space. As an application, we show an interesting case of rigidity inequalities of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian, more precisely, we consider a countable family of bounded domains in Gaussian shrinking soliton that makes the behavior of known estimates of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian invariant by a first-order perturbation of the Laplacian. We also address the Gaussian expanding soliton case in two different settings. We finish with the special case of divergence-free tensors which is closely related to the Cheng-Yau operator.

Eigenvalue estimates of the drifted Cheng-Yau operator on bounded domains in pinched Cartan-Hadamard manifolds

We show how a Bochner type formula can be used to establish universal inequalities for the eigenvalues of the drifted Cheng-Yau operator on a bounded domain in a pinched Cartan-Hadamard manifold with the Dirichlet boundary condition. In the first theorem, the hyperbolic space case is treated in an independent way. For the more general setting, we first establish a Rauch comparison theorem for the Cheng-Yau operator and two estimates associated with the Bochner type formula for this operator. Next, we get some integral estimates of independent interest. As an application, we compute our universal inequalities. In particular, we obtain the corresponding inequalities for both Cheng-Yau operator and drifted Laplacian cases, and we recover the known inequalities for the Laplacian case. We also obtain a rigidity result for a Cheng-Yau operator on a class of bounded annular domains in a pinched Cartan-Hadamard manifold. In particular, we can use, e.g., the potential function of the Gaussian shrinking soliton to obtain such a rigidity for the Euclidean space case. The fundamental gap conjecture is also addressed in this paper.

A note on gradient Ricci soliton warped metrics

In this note, we prove triviality and nonexistence results for gradient Ricci soliton warped metrics. The proofs stem from the construction of gradient Ricci solitons that are realized as warped products, from which we know that the base spaces of these products are Ricci-Hessian type manifolds. We study this latter class of manifolds as the most appropriate setting to prove our results.

Generic spectrum of warped products and G-manifolds

In this paper, we establish a kind of splitting theorem for the eigenvalues of a specific family of operators on the base of a warped product. As a consequence, we prove a density theorem for a set of warping functions that makes the spectrum of the Laplacian a warped-simple spectrum. This is then used to study the generic situation of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian on a class of compact G-manifolds. In particular, we give a partial answer to a question posed in 1990 by Steven Zelditch about the generic situation of multiplicity of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian on principal bundles.

On Eigenvalue Generic Properties of the Laplace-Neumann Operator

We establish the existence of analytic curves of eigenvalues for the Laplace-Neumann operator through an analytic variation of the metric of a compact Riemannian manifold $M$ with boundary by means of a new approach rather than Kato's method for unbounded operators. We obtain an expression for the derivative of the curve of eigenvalues, which is used as a device to prove that the eigenvalues of the Laplace-Neumann operator are generically simple in the space $\mathcal{M}^k$ of all $C^k$ Riemannian metrics on $M$. This implies the existence of a residual set of metrics in $\mathcal{M}^k$, which make the spectrum of the Laplace-Neumann operator simple. We also give a precise information about the complementary of this residual set, as well as about the structure of the set of the deformation of a Riemannian metric which preserves double eigenvalues.

Eigenvalue estimates for a class of elliptic differential operators in divergence form

We compute estimates for eigenvalues of a class of linear second-order elliptic differential operators in divergence form (with Dirichlet boundary condition) on a bounded domain in a complete Riemannian manifold. Our estimates are based upon the Weyl's asymptotic formula. As an application, we find a lower bound for the mean of the first k eigenvalues of the drifting Laplacian. In particular, we have extended for this operator a partial solution given by Cheng and Yang for the generalized conjecture of Pólya. We also derive a second-Yang type inequality due to Chen and Cheng, and other two inequalities which generalize results by Cheng and Yang obtained for a domain in the unit sphere and for a domain in the projective space.

Classification of base of warped product almost Ricci solitons

In this paper we study a Ricci-Hessian type manifold $(\Bbb{M},g,φ,f,λ)$ which is closely related to the construction of almost Ricci soliton realized as a warped product. We classify certain classes of the Ricci-Hessian type manifolds and derive some implications for almost Ricci solitons and generalized $m$--quasi-Einstein manifolds. We consider two complementary cases: $\nabla f$ and $\nablaφ$ are linearly independent in $C^\infty(\Bbb{M})$--module $\mathfrak{X}(\Bbb{M})$; and $\nabla f=h\nablaφ$ for a smooth function $h$ on $\Bbb{M}$. In the first case we show that the vector field $\nablaλ$ belongs to the $C^\infty(\Bbb{M})$--module generated by $\nabla f$ and $\nablaφ$, while in the second case, under additional hypothesis, the manifold is, around any regular point of $f$, locally isometric to a warped product.
