Correspondence between Einstein-Yang-Mills-Lorentz systems and dynamical torsion models

In the framework of Einstein-Yang-Mills theories, we study the gauge Lorentz group and establish a particular correspondence between this case and a certain class of theories with torsion within Riemann-Cartan space-times. This relation is specially useful in order to simplify the problem of finding exact solutions to the Einstein-Yang-Mills equations. The applicability of the method is divided into two approaches: one associated with the Lorentz group SO(1,n-1) of the space-time rotations and another one with its subgroup SO(n-2). Solutions for both cases are presented by the explicit use of this correspondence and, interestingly, for the last one by imposing on our ansatz the same kind of rotation and reflection symmetry properties as for a nonvanishing space-time torsion. Although these solutions were found in previous literature by a different approach, our method provides an alternative way to obtain them and it may be used in future research to find other exact solutions within this theory.

Einstein-Yang-Mills-Lorentz black holes

Different black hole solutions of the coupled Einstein-Yang-Mills equations have been well known for a long time. They have attracted much attention from mathematicians and physicists since their discovery. In this work, we analyze black holes associated with the gauge Lorentz group. In particular, we study solutions which identify the gauge connection with the spin connection. This ansatz allows one to find exact solutions to the complete system of equations. By using this procedure, we show the equivalence between the Yang-Mills-Lorentz model in curved space-time and a particular set of extended gravitational theories.

Scale Holography

We present a new correspondence between a d-dimensional dynamical system and a whole family of (d+1)-dimensional systems. This new scale-holographic relation is built by the explicit introduction of a dimensionful constant which determines the size of the additional dimension. Scale holography is particularly useful for studying non-local theories, since the equivalent dual system on the higher dimensional manifold can be made to be local, as we illustrate with the specific example of the p-adic string.

Disformal scalars as dark matter candidates: Branon phenomenology

Scalar particles coupled to the Standard Model fields through a disformal coupling arise in different theories, such as massive gravity or brane-world models. We will review the main phenomenology associated with such particles. Distinctive disformal signatures could be measured at colliders and with astrophysical observations. The phenomenological relevance of the disformal coupling demands the introduction of a set of symmetries, which may ensure the stability of these new degrees of freedom. In such a case, they constitute natural dark matter candidates since they are generally massive and weakly coupled. We will illustrate these ideas by paying particular attention to the branon case, since these questions arise naturally in brane-world models with low tension, where they were first discussed.

Modified gravity and dark matter

The fundamental nature of Dark Matter (DM) has not been established. Indeed, beyond its gravitational effects, DM remains undetected by present experiments. In this situation, it is reasonable to wonder if other alternatives can effectively explain the observations usually associated with the existence of DM. The modification of the gravitational interaction has been studied in this context from many different approaches. However, the large amount of different astrophysical evidences makes difficult to think that modified gravity can account for all these observations. On the other hand, if such a modification introduces new degrees of freedom, they may work as DM candidates. We will summarize the phenomenology of these gravitational dark matter candidates by analyzing minimal models.

Magnetic dipole moments for composite dark matter

We study neutral dark matter candidates with a nonzero magnetic dipole moment. We assume that they are composite states of new fermions related to the strong phase of a new gauge interaction. In particular, invoking a dark flavor symmetry, we analyze the composition structure of viable candidates depending on the assignations of hypercharge and the multiplets associated to the fundamental constituents of the extended sector. We determine the magnetic dipole moments for the neutral composite states in terms of their constituents masses.

Thermodynamic analysis of non-linear Reissner-Nordstrom black holes

In the present article we study the Inverse Electrodynamics Model. This model is a gauge and parity invariant non-linear Electrodynamics theory, which respects the conformal invariance of standard Electrodynamics. This modified Electrodynamics model, when minimally coupled to General Relativity, is compatible with static and spherically symmetric Reissner-Nordstrom-like black-hole solutions. However, these black-hole solutions present more complex thermodynamic properties than their Reissner-Nordstrom black-hole solutions counterparts in standard Electrodynamics. In particular, in the Inverse Model a new stability region, with both the heat capacity and the free energy negative, arises. Moreover, unlike the scenario in standard Electrodynamics, a sole transition phase is possible for a suitable choice in the set of parameters of these solutions.

The right generations

The Standard Model has three generations of fermions and although it does not contain any explicit reason for this, the existence of additional generations is now very constrained by experiment. Present measurements are saturating perturbative unitarity limits. The main idea of this work is to show that those restrictions can be relaxed if the new generations experience different interactions. This new setup leads to the presence of additional stable degrees of freedom that give rise to a very rich phenomenology for cosmology, astrophysics and particle physics. The stability is a consequence of the conservation of new accidental baryon and lepton numbers. We present an explicit example by introducing a fourth generation charged under a new $SU(2)_R$ gauge interaction instead of the standard $SU(2)_L$. The simplest implementations lead to models that contain stable quarks, leptons and neutrinos. We show that these new particles can have a wide range of masses within a non-standard cosmological set-up. Indeed, the new neutrinos (and {\it neutral leptons}) constitute viable dark matter candidates if they are the lightest of these new particles.

Non-minimal scalar-tensor theories

We compute the spectrum of scalar models with a general coupling to the scalar curvature. We find that the perturbative states of these theories are given by two massive spin-0 modes in addition to one massless spin-2 state. This latter mode can be identified with the standard graviton field. Indeed, we are able to define an Einstein frame, where the dynamics of the massless spin-2 graviton is the one associated with the Einstein-Hilbert action. We also explore the interactions of all these degrees of freedom in the mentioned frame, since part of the coupling structure can be anticipated by geometrical arguments.

Cosmic Rays from Heavy Dark Matter from the Galactic Center

The gamma-ray fluxes observed by the High Energy Stereoscopic System (HESS) from the J1745-290 Galactic Center source is well fitted by the secondary photons coming from Dark Matter (DM) annihilation in particle-antiparticle standard model pairs over a diffuse power-law background. The spectral features of the signal are consistent with different channels: light quarks, electro-weak gauge bosons and top-antitop production. The amount of photons and morphology of the signal localized within a region of few parsecs, require compressed DM profiles as those resulting from baryonic contraction, which offer large enhancements in the signal over DM alone simulations. The fits return a heavy WIMP, with a mass above 10 TeV, but well below the unitarity limit for thermal relic annihilation. The fitted background spectral index is compatible with the Fermi-Large Area Telescope (LAT) data from the same region. This possibility can be potentially tested with the observations of other high energy cosmic rays.

Whitepaper on Super-weakly Interacting Massive Particles for Snowmass 2013

Super-weakly interacting massive particles produced in the late decays of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) are generic in large regions of supersymmetric parameter space and other frameworks for physics beyond the standard model. If their masses are similar to that of the decaying WIMP, then they could naturally account for all of the cosmological dark matter abundance. Their astrophysical consequences and collider signatures are distinct and different from WIMP candidates. In particular, they could modify Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, distort the Cosmic Microwave Background, reduce galactic substructure and lower central densities of low-mass galaxies.

Brane-Worlds at the LHC: Branons and KK-gravitons

We study the possibility of testing some generic properties of Brane-World scenarios at the LHC. In particular, we pay attention to KK-graviton and branon production. Both signals can be dominant depending on the value of the brane tension. We analyze the differences between these two signatures. Finally, we use recent data in the single photon channel from the ATLAS collaboration to constraint the parameter space of both phenomenologies.

CPT analysis with top physics

We discuss the possibility of observing CPT violation from top anti-top production in hadronic colliders. We study a general approach by analyzing constraints on the mass difference between the top and anti-top quarks. We present current bounds from Tevatron data, and comment on the prospects for improving these bounds at the LHC and the ILC.

Impact of DM direct searches and the LHC analyses on branon phenomenology

Dark Matter direct detection experiments are able to exclude interesting parameter space regions of particle models which predict an important amount of thermal relics. We use recent data to constrain the branon model and to compute the region that is favored by CDMS measurements. Within this work, we also update present colliders constraints with new studies coming from the LHC. Despite the present low luminosity, it is remarkable that for heavy branons, CMS and ATLAS measurements are already more constraining than previous analyses performed with TEVATRON and LEP data.

QCD contributions to the thermal history of the early Universe

We discuss the deviations from the ideal relativistic thermal bath. These deviations are dominated from quantum chromodynamic (QCD) corrections in the most part of the parameter space of the Standard Model (SM) and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). These effects are relevant for astrophysical precision measurements and dynamics of scalar tensor theories (SST).

R^2 Dark Matter

There is a non-trivial four-derivative extension of the gravitational spectrum that is free of ghosts and phenomenologically viable. It is the so called $R^2$-gravity since it is defined by the only addition of a term proportional to the square of the scalar curvature. Just the presence of this term does not improve the ultraviolet behaviour of Einstein gravity but introduces one additional scalar degree of freedom that can account for the dark matter of our Universe.

Dark Matter and Higgs Sector

The inert doublet model is an extension of the Standard Model of Elementary Particles that is defined by the only addition of a second Higgs doublet without couplings to quarks or leptons. This minimal framework has been studied for many reasons. In particular, it has been suggested that the new degrees of freedom contained in this doublet can account for the Dark Matter of the Universe.

Thermodynamics and Cosmological Constant of Non-Local Field Theories from p-Adic Strings

We develop the thermodynamics of field theories characterized by non-local propagators. We analyze the partition function and main thermodynamic properties arising from perturbative thermal loops. We focus on the p-adic models associated with the tachyon phenomenology in string theories. We reproduce well known features of these theories, but also obtain many new results. In particular, we explain how to maintain consistency of such non-local theories by avoiding the appearance of ghosts at finite temperature. As a consequence of this fact, the vacuum energy in p-adic theories becomes positive. It is also hierarchically suppressed, and we explore the parameter space where it is consistent with the observed value of the cosmological constant.
