Interacting quintessence from new formalism of gravitoelectromagnetism formulated on a geometrical scalar-tensor gauge theory of gravity

We derive an interacting quintessence model on the framework of a recently introduced new class of geometrical scalar-tensor theories of gravity formulated on a Weyl-Integrable geometry, where the gravitational sector is described by both a scalar and a tensor metric field. By using a Palatini variational principle we construct a scalar-tensor action invariant under the Weyl symmetry group of the background geometry, which in the Einstein-Riemann frame leads to a gravitoelectromagnetic theory. We use the gauge freedom of the theory and the fact that the Weyl scalar field couples with matter fields to formulate an interacting quintessential model with a non-canonical kinetic term, where the quintessence field has a geometrical origin. Due to this non-canonicity we obtain that the mass of the quintessence field in the past epochs results to be small enough not to cause modifications in the baryon to photon ratio during nucleosynthesis.

New effective coupled $F(^{(4)}\!R,φ)$ modified gravity from $f(^{(5)}\!R)$ gravity in five dimensions

We obtain a new kind of $F(^{(4)}\!R,φ)$ modified gravity theory as an effective four-dimensional (4D) theory derived from $f(^{(5)}\!R)$ gravity in five dimensions (5D). This new theory exhibits a different matter coupling than the one in BBHL theory. We show that the field equations of the Wesson's induced matter theory and of some braneworld scenarios can be obtained as maximally symmetric solutions of the $f(^{(5)}\!R)$ theory. We found criteria for the Goldov-Kawasaki instabilities for both the $f(^{(5)}\!R)$ and the $F(^{(4)}\!R,φ)$ theories. We demonstrate that under certain conditions imposed on the 5D geometry it is possible to interpret the $F(^{(4)}\!R,φ)$ theory as a modified gravity theory with dynamical coefficients, making this new theory a viable candidate to address the present accelerating cosmic expansion issue.

The conformal transformation's controversy: what are we missing?

An alternative interpretation of the conformal transformations of the metric is discussed according to which the latter can be viewed as a mapping among Riemannian and Weyl-integrable spaces. A novel aspect of the conformal transformation's issue is then revealed: these transformations relate complementary geometrical pictures of a same physical reality, so that, the question about which is the physical conformal frame, does not arise. In addition, arguments are given which point out that, unless a clear statement of what is understood by "equivalence of frames" is made, the issue is a semantic one. For definiteness, an intuitively "natural" statement of conformal equivalence is given, which is associated with conformal invariance of the field equations. Under this particular reading, equivalence can take place only if the metric is defined up to a conformal equivalence class. A concrete example of a conformal-invariant theory of gravity is then explored. Since Brans-Dicke theory is not conformally invariant, then the Jordan's and Einstein's frames of the theory are not equivalent. Otherwise, in view of the alternative approach proposed here, these frames represent complementary geometrical descriptions of a same phenomenon. The different points of view existing in the literature are critically scrutinized on the light of the new arguments.

Conformal transformations and the conformal equivalence principle

It is demonstrated that, unless the meaning of conformal transformations for the underlying geometrical structure is discussed on a same footing as it is done for the equations of the given gravity theory, the notion of "conformal equivalence", as it has been mostly used in the bibliography to date, lacks physical and mathematical content. A principle of conformal equivalence is then formulated and its consequences are investigated within a conformally invariant modification of Brans-Dicke (BD) theory of gravity. It is also demonstrated that vacuum BD theory ($ω\neq -3/2$) is not conformally invariant and, consequently, the different conformal frames in which the theory can be formulated are just different - conformally related - representations of a same phenomenon. Hence these can not be compared: either both are physically correct, or none is it.

Stochastic emergence of inflaton fluctuations in a SdS primordial universe with large-scale repulsive gravity from a 5D vacuum

We develop a stochastic approach to study scalar field fluctuations of the inflaton field in an early inflationary universe with a black-hole (BH), which is described by an effective 4D SdS metric. Considering a 5D Ricci-flat SdS static metric, we implement a planar coordinate transformation, in order to obtain a 5D cosmological metric, from which the effective 4D SdS metric can be induced on a 4D hypersurface. We found that at the end of inflation, the squared fluctuations of the inflaton field are not exactly scale independent and becomes sensitive with the mass of the BH.

Primordial SdS universe from a 5D vacuum: scalar field fluctuations on Schwarzschild and Hubble horizons

We study scalar field fluctuations of the inflaton field in an early inflationary universe on an effective 4D Schwarzschild-de Sitter (SdS) metric, which is obtained after make a planar coordinate transformation on a 5D Ricci-flat Schwarzschild-de Sitter (SdS) static metric. We obtain the important result that the spectrum of fluctuations at zeroth order is independent of the scalar field mass $M$ on Schwarzschild scales, while on cosmological scales it exhibits a mass dependence. However, in the first-order expansion, the spectrum depends of the inflaton mass and the amplitude is linear with the Black-Hole (BH) mass $m$.

Quintessence interacting dark energy from induced matter theory of gravity

In the context of the induced matter theory of gravity, we investigate the possibility of deriving a 4D quintessential scenario where an interaction between dark energy and dark matter is allowed, and the dark energy component is modeled by a minimally coupled scalar field. Regarding the Ponce de Leon metric, we found that it is possible to obtain such scenario on which the energy densities of dark matter and dark energy, are both depending of the fifth extra coordinate. We obtain that the 4D induced scalar potential for the quintessence scalar field, has the same algebraic form to the one found by Zimdahl and Pavon in the context of usual 4D cosmology.

Extended General Relativity: large-scale antigravity and short-scale gravity with ω=-1 from five dimensional vacuum

Considering a five-dimensional (5D) Riemannian spacetime with a particular stationary Ricci-flat metric, we obtain in the framework of the induced matter theory an effective 4D static and spherically symmetric metric which give us ordinary gravitatory solutions on small (planetary and astrophysical) scales, but repulsive (antigravity) forces on very large (cosmological) scales with ω= -1. Our approach is an unified manner to describe dark energy, dark matter and ordinary matter. We illustrate the theory with two examples, the solar system and the great attractor. From the geometrical point of view, these results follow from the assumption that exists a confining force that make possible that test particles move on a given 4D hypersurface.

On Weyl cosmology in five dimensions and the cosmological constant

In this talk notes we expose the possibility to induce the cosmological constant from extra dimensions, in a geometrical framework where our four-dimensional Riemannian space-time is embedded into a five-dimensional Weyl integrable space. In particular following the approach of the induced matter theory, we show that when go down from five to four dimensions, we may recover in the context of the general theory of relativity, the induced energy momentum tensor of the induced matter theory plus a cosmological constant term, that is determined by the presence of the Weyl scalar field on the bulk.

Embedding General Relativity with varying cosmological constant term in five-dimensional Brans-Dicke theory of gravity in vacuum

We investigate the possibility to recover a four-dimensional (4D) general theory of relativity, as embedded in a 5D spacetime where gravity is governed by a five-dimensional (5D) Brans-Dicke (BD) theory of gravity. Employing the Gauss-Codazzi-Ricci equations and some ideas of the induced matter theory, we obtain that when the 5D BD scalar field is only depending of the extra coordinate, it is possible to recover on every generic 4D hypersurface the usual Einstein field equations plus a cosmological constant term, with matter sources described by the energy-momentum tensor of induced matter and where the cosmological constant under certain conditions can vary with time. Finally to illustrate the formalism, we give an example in which we induced a cosmological constant from warped product spaces.

Inducing the cosmological constant from five-dimensional Weyl space

We investigate the possibility of inducing the cosmological constant from extra dimensions by embedding our four-dimensional Riemannian space-time into a five-dimensional Weyl integrable space. Following approach of the induced matter theory we show that when we go down from five to four dimensions, the Weyl field may contribute both to the induced energy-tensor as well as to the cosmological constant, or more generally, it may generate a time-dependent cosmological parameter. As an application, we construct a simple cosmological model which has some interesting properties.

Stochastic approach of gravitational waves in presence of a decaying cosmological parameter from a 5D vacuum theory of gravity

We develop an stochastic approach to study gravitational waves produced during the inflationary epoch under the presence of a decaying cosmological parameter, on a 5D geometrical background which is Riemann flat. We obtain that the squared tensor metric fluctuations depend strongly on the cosmological parameter $Λ(t)$ and we finally illustrate the formalism with an example of a decaying $Λ(t)$.

Passing to an effective 4D phantom cosmology from 5D vacuum theory of gravity

Starting from a five-dimensional (5D) vacuum theory of gravity where the extra coordinate is considered as noncompact, we investigate the possibility of inducing four-dimensional (4D) phantom scenarios by applying form-invariance symmetry transformations. In particular we obtain phantom scenarios for two cosmological frameworks. In the first framework we deal with an induced 4D de-Sitter expansion and in the second one a 4D induced model where the expansion of the universe is dominated by a decreasing cosmological parameter $Λ(t)$ is discussed.

Induced inflation from a 5D purely kinetic scalar field formalism on warped product spaces

Considering a separable and purely kinetic 5D scalar field on a warped product metric background we propose a new and more general approach for inducing 4D scalar potentials on a 4D constant foliation of the 5D space-time. We obtain an induced potential for a true 4D scalar field instead of a potential for an effective 4D scalar field. In this formalism we can recover the usual 4D inflationary formalism with a geometrically induced inflationary potential. In addition the quantum confinement of the inflaton modes is obtained naturally from the model for at least a class of warping factors. Besides the 4D inflationary physics that results of this formalism is independent of the 4D-hypersurface chosen.

Quintessential inflation from 5D warped product spaces on a dynamical foliation

Assuming the existence of a 5D purely kinetic scalar field on the class of warped product spaces we investigate the possibility of mimic both an inflationary and a quintessential scenarios on 4D hypersurfaces, by implementing a dynamical foliation on the fifth coordinate instead of a constant one. We obtain that an induced chaotic inflationary scenario with a geometrically induced scalar potential and an induced quasi-vacuum equation of state on 4D dynamical hypersurfaces is possible. While on a constant foliation the universe can be considered as matter dominated today, in a family of 4D dynamical hypersurfaces the universe can be passing for a period of accelerated expansion with a deceleration parameter nearly -1. This effect of the dynamical foliation results negligible at the inflationary epoch allowing for a chaotic scenario and becomes considerable at the present epoch allowing a quintessential scenario.

Metric fluctuations from a NKK theory of gravity in a de Sitter expansion

A gauge invariant metric fluctuations formalism from a non-compact Kaluza-Klein (NKK) theory of gravity is presented in this talk notes. In this analysis we recover the well-known result $\frac{delta ρ}ρ\simeq 2Φ$ obtained typically in the standard 4D semiclassical approach to inflation and also the spectrum of this fluctuations becomes dependent of the fifth (space-like) coordinate. This fact allows to establish an interval of values for the wave number associated with the fifth dimension.
