EgoIntrospect: An Egocentric Dataset and Benchmark for User-Centric Internal State Reasoning

Despite extensive efforts on egocentric video datasets and benchmarks, understanding users' internal states, which is crucial for enabling seamless AI assistant experiences, remains largely overlooked. In this work, we introduce EgoIntrospect, the first egocentric dataset captured in user-driven scenarios with self-annotations that explicitly reveal users' interactive intentions with AI assistants. EgoIntrospect was collected using a cross-device setup, providing synchronized video, audio, gaze, motion, and physiological signals. It consists of 180 hours of recordings from 60 subjects, with an average recording duration of 3 hours per subject. Leveraging EgoIntrospect, we formalize a suite of tasks centered on user internal states, including affective experience, interactive intent, and cognitive memory. We further process the annotations to construct benchmarks that evaluate the ability of modern multimodal large language models to reason about users' internal states from egocentric observations. Experiments on our benchmark suggest that existing multimodal large language models struggle to effectively leverage multimodal signals to infer users' subjective internal states. The dataset and annotations will be made publicly available to advance research in egocentric vision and wearable AI assistants. Project page: https://ego-introspect.github.io/

Photonic processes in Born-Infeld theory

We study the processes of photon-photon scattering and photon splitting in a magnetic field in Born-Infeld theory. In both cases we combine the terms from the tree-level Born-Infeld Lagrangian with the usual one-loop QED contributions, where those are approximated by the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian, including also the interference terms. For photon-photon scattering we obtain the total cross section in the low-energy approximation. For photon splitting we compute the total absorption coefficient in the hexagon (weak field) approximation, and also show that, due to the non-birefringence property of Born-Infeld theory, the selection rules found by Adler for the QED case continue to hold in this more general setting. We discuss the bounds on the free parameter of Born-Infeld theory that may be obtained from this type of processes.

Effective action for Einstein-Maxwell theory at order RF**4

We use a recently derived integral representation of the one-loop effective action in Einstein-Maxwell theory for an explicit calculation of the part of the effective action containing the information on the low energy limit of the five-point amplitudes involving one graviton, four photons and either a scalar or spinor loop. All available identities are used to get the result into a relatively compact form.

Gravitational corrections to the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian

We use the worldline formalism for calculating the one-loop effective action for the Einstein-Maxwell background induced by charged scalars or spinors, in the limit of low energy and weak gravitational field but treating the electromagnetic field nonperturbatively. The effective action is obtained in a form which generalizes the standard proper-time representation of the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian. We compare with previous work and discuss possible applications.

The effective action in Einstein-Maxwell theory

Considerable work has been done on the one-loop effective action in combined electromagnetic and gravitational fields, particularly as a tool for determining the properties of light propagation in curved space. After a short review of previous work, I present some recent results obtained using the worldline formalism. In particular, I will discuss various ways of generalizing the QED Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian to the Einstein-Maxwell case.
