The six-functor formalism for rigid analytic motives

We offer a systematic study of rigid analytic motives over general rigid analytic spaces, and we develop their six-functor formalism. A key ingredient is an extended proper base change theorem that we are able to justify by reducing to the case of algebraic motives. In fact, more generally, we develop a powerful technique for reducing questions about rigid analytic motives to questions about algebraic motives, which is likely to be useful in other contexts as well. We pay special attention to establishing our results without noetherianity assumptions on rigid analytic spaces. This is indeed possible using Raynaud's approach to rigid analytic geometry.

Weil cohomology theories and their motivic Hopf algebroids

In this paper we discuss a general notion of Weil cohomology theories, both in algebraic geometry and in rigid analytic geometry. We allow our Weil cohomology theories to have coefficients in arbitrary commutative ring spectra. Using the theory of motives, we give three equivalent viewpoints on Weil cohomology theories: as a cohomology theory on smooth varieties, as a motivic spectrum and as a realization functor. We also associate to every Weil cohomology theory a motivic Hopf algebroid generalizing a previous construction of the author for the Betti cohomology. The main result proven in the paper is the connectivity of the motivic Hopf algebroids associated to the classical Weil cohomology theories.

Relative Artin motives and the reductive Borel-Serre compactification of a locally symmetric variety

We introduce the notion of Artin motives and cohomological motives over a scheme X. Given a cohomological motive M over X, we construct its punctual weight zero part $ω^0_X(M)$ as the universal Artin motive mapping to M. We use this to define a motive E_X over X which is an invariant of the singularities of X. The first half of the paper is devoted to the study of the functors $ω^0_X$ and the computation of the motives E_X. In the second half of the paper, we develop the application to locally symmetric varieties. Specifically, let Y be a locally symmetric variety and denote by p:W-->Z the projection of its reductive Borel-Serre compactification W onto its Baily-Borel Satake compactification Z. We show that $Rp_*(\Q_W)$ is naturally isomorphic to the Betti realization of the motive E_Z, where Z is viewed as a scheme. In particular, the direct image of E_Z along the projection of Z to Spec(C) gives a motive whose Betti realization is naturally isomorphic to the cohomology of W.
