Scopes equivalence for blocks of Ariki-Koike algebras

We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a block of an Ariki-Koike algebra to have the property that all its associated multipartitions have no addable node with a given residue. This leads to a classification of Scopes equivalence classes for Ariki-Koike algebras in terms of their pyramid numbers and Scopes vectors, generalising that for level 1 and for core blocks. Our proof is independent of the results of Richards for level 1.

Nonsmooth Calabi-Yau structures for algebras and coalgebras

We show that generalised Calabi-Yau dg (co)algebras are Koszul dual to generalised symmetric dg (co)algebras, without needing to assume any smoothness or properness hypotheses. Similarly, we show that Gorenstein and Frobenius are Koszul dual properties. As an application, we give a new characterisation of Poincar\'e duality spaces, which extends a theorem of F\'elix- Halperin-Thomas to the non-simply connected setting.

Cohomology of Lie coalgebras

A Koszul duality-type correspondence between coderived categories of conilpotent differential graded Lie coalgebras and their Chevalley-Eilenberg differential graded algebras is established. This gives an interpretation of Lie coalgebra cohomology as a certain kind of derived functor. A similar correspondence is proved for coderived categories of commutative cofibrant differential graded algebras and their Harrison differential graded Lie coalgebras.

One-sided localization in dg categories

The notion of one-sided localization in the homotopy invariant context is developed for dg algebras and dg categories. Applications include a simple construction of derived localization of dg algebras and dg categories, and a refinement of Drinfeld's quotient of pretriangulated dg categories.

Rank functions on triangulated categories

We introduce the notion of a rank function on a triangulated category $\mathcal{C}$ which generalizes the Sylvester rank function in the case when $\mathcal{C}=\operatorname{Perf}(A)$ is the perfect derived category of a ring $A$. We show that rank functions are closely related to functors into simple triangulated categories and classify Verdier quotients into simple triangulated categories in terms of particular rank functions called localizing. If $\mathcal{C}=\operatorname{Perf}(A)$ as above, localizing rank functions also classify finite homological epimorphisms from $A$ into differential graded skew-fields or, more generally, differential graded Artining rings. To establish these results, we develop the theory of derived localization of differential graded algebras at thick subcategories of their perfect derived categories. This is a far-reaching generalization of Cohn's matrix localization of rings and has independent interest.

Maurer-Cartan moduli and theorems of Riemann-Hilbert type

We study Maurer-Cartan moduli spaces of dg algebras and associated dg categories and show that, while not quasi-isomorphism invariants, they are invariants of strong homotopy type, a natural notion that has not been studied before. We prove, in several different contexts, Schlessinger-Stasheff type theorems comparing the notions of homotopy and gauge equivalence for Maurer-Cartan elements as well as their categorified versions. As an application, we re-prove and generalize Block-Smith's higher Riemann-Hilbert correspondence, and develop its analogue for simplicial complexes and topological spaces.

On Perverse Equivalences and Rationality

We show that perverse equivalences between module categories of finite-dimensional algebras preserve rationality. As an application, we give a connection between some famous conjectures from the modular representation theory of finite groups, namely Broué's Abelian Defect Group conjecture and Donovan's Finiteness conjectures.

ParaNet - Using Dense Blocks for Early Inference

DenseNets have been shown to be a competitive model among recent convolutional network architectures. These networks utilize Dense Blocks, which are groups of densely connected layers where the output of a hidden layer is fed in as the input of every other layer following it. In this paper, we aim to improve certain aspects of DenseNet, especially when it comes to practicality. We introduce ParaNet, a new architecture that constructs three pipelines which allow for early inference. We additionally introduce a cascading mechanism such that different pipelines are able to share parameters, as well as logit matching between the outputs of the pipelines. We separately evaluate each of the newly introduced mechanisms of ParaNet, then evaluate our proposed architecture on CIFAR-100.

On the perturbation algebra

We introduce a certain differential graded bialgebra, neither commutative nor cocommutative, that governs perturbations of a differential on complexes supplied with an abstract Hodge decomposition. This leads to a conceptual treatment of the Homological Perturbation Lemma and its multiplicative version. As an application we give an explicit form of the decomposition theorem for $A_\infty$ algebras and $A_\infty$ modules and, more generally, for twisted objects in differential graded categories.

Derived localisation of algebras and modules

For any dg algebra $A$, not necessarily commutative, and a subset $S$ in $H(A)$, the homology of $A$, we construct its derived localisation $L_S(A)$ together with a map $A\to L_S(A)$, well-defined in the homotopy category of dg algebras, which possesses a universal property, similar to that of the ordinary localisation, but formulated in homotopy invariant terms. Even if $A$ is an ordinary ring, $L_S(A)$ may have non-trivial homology. Unlike the commutative case, the localisation functor does not commute, in general, with homology but instead there is a spectral sequence relating $H(L_S(A))$ and $L_S(H(A))$; this spectral sequence collapses when, e.g. $S$ is an Ore set or when $A$ is a free ring. We prove that $L_S(A)$ could also be regarded as a Bousfield localisation of $A$ viewed as a left or right dg module over itself. Combined with the results of Dwyer-Kan on simplicial localisation, this leads to a simple and conceptual proof of the topological group completion theorem. Further applications include algebraic $K$-theory, cyclic and Hochschild homology, strictification of homotopy unital algebras, idempotent ideals, the stable homology of various mapping class groups and Kontsevich's graph homology.

Parallelotope tilings and $q$-decomposition numbers

We provide closed formulas for a large subset of the canonical basis vectors of the Fock space representation of $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_e)$. These formulas arise from parallelotopes which assemble to form polytopal complexes. The subgraphs of the $\mathrm{Ext}^1$-quivers of $v$-Schur algebras at complex $e$-th roots of unity generated by simple modules corresponding to these canonical basis vectors are given by the $1$-skeletons of the polytopal complexes.

On the magnitude of a finite dimensional algebra

There is a general notion of the magnitude of an enriched category, defined subject to hypotheses. In topological and geometric contexts, magnitude is already known to be closely related to classical invariants such as Euler characteristic and dimension. Here we establish its significance in an algebraic context. Specifically, in the representation theory of an associative algebra A, a central role is played by the indecomposable projective A-modules, which form a category enriched in vector spaces. We show that the magnitude of that category is a known homological invariant of the algebra: writing chi_A for the Euler form of A and S for the direct sum of the simple A-modules, it is chi_A(S, S).

Canonical bases for Fock spaces and tensor products

We relate the canonical basis of the Fock space representation of the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}_{n})$, as defined by Leclerc and Thibon, to the canonical basis of its restriction to $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n})$, regarded as a based module in the sense of Lusztig. More generally we consider the restriction to any parabolic subalgebra. We deduce results on decomposition numbers and branching coefficients of Schur algebras over fields of positive characteristic, generalising those of Kleshchev and of Tan and Teo.

Koszul-Morita duality

We construct a generalization of Koszul duality in the sense of Keller--Lefèvre for not necessarily augmented algebras. This duality is closely related to classical Morita duality and specializes to it in certain cases.

L-infinity maps and twistings

We give a construction of an L-infinity map from any L-infinity algebra into its truncated Chevalley-Eilenberg complex as well as its cyclic and A-infinity analogues. This map fits with the inclusion into the full Chevalley-Eilenberg complex (or its respective analogues) to form a homotopy fiber sequence of L-infinity-algebras. Application to deformation theory and graph homology are given. We employ the machinery of Maurer-Cartan functors in L-infinity and A-infinity algebras and associated twistings which should be of independent interest.

Combinatorics and formal geometry of the master equation

We give a general treatment of the master equation in homotopy algebras and describe the operads and formal differential geometric objects governing the corresponding algebraic structures. We show that the notion of Maurer-Cartan twisting is encoded in certain automorphisms of these universal objects.

Feynman diagrams and minimal models for operadic algebras

We construct an explicit minimal model for an algebra over the cobar-construction of a differential graded operad. The structure maps of this minimal model are expressed in terms of sums over decorated trees. We introduce the appropriate notion of a homotopy equivalence of operadic algebras and show that our minimal model is homotopy equivalent to the original algebra. All this generalizes and gives a conceptual explanation of well-known results for A-infinity algebras. Further, we show that these results carry over to the case of algebras over modular operads; the sums over trees get replaced by sums over general Feynman graphs. As a by-product of our work we prove gauge-independence of Kontsevich's `dual construction' producing graph cohomology classes from contractible differential graded Frobenius algebras.
