Nonequilibrium transport and population inversion in double quantum dot systems

We present a microscopic theory for both equilibrium and nonequilibrium transport properties of coupled double quantum dots (DQD). A general formula for current tunneling through the DQD is derived by the nonequilibrium Green's function method. Using a Hartree-Fock approach, effects of multi-level coupling and nonequilibrium electron distributions in resonant tunneling are considered. We find that the peak in the resonant tunneling current through two symmetric dots will split only when the inter-dot coupling is stronger than dot-lead coupling. We predict that population inversion can be achieved in one dot in the nonequilibrium regime.

INTERLAYER VORTICES AND EDGE DISLOCATIONS IN HIGH TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTORS

The interaction of an edge dislocation made of half the superconducting plane with a magnetic interlayer vortex is considered within the framework of the Lawrence-Doniach model with negative as well as positive Josephson interlayer coupling. In the first case the binding energy of the vortex and the dislocation has been calculated by employing a variational procedure. The current distribution around the bound vortex turns out to be asymmetric. In the second case the dislocation carries a spontaneous magnetic half-vortex, whose binding energy with the dislocation turns out to be infinite. The half-vortex energy has been calculated by the same variational procedure. Implications of the possible presence of such half-vortices for the properties of high temperature superconductors are discussed.

Structure of the Magneto-Exciton and Optical Properties in Fractional Quantum Hall Systems

We report calculated dependence of magneto-exciton energy spectrum upon electron-hole separation $d$ in Fractional Quantum Hall systems. We calculated the dependence of photoluminescence upon $d$, and we obtained the doublet structure observed recently. The Raman scattering spectrum around resonance is calculated: a robust resonance peak at $ν=1/3$ around gap value is reported.

Theory of Second Order Optical Processes from A Luttinger Liquid

We develop a theory for the total optical secondary emission from a 1D interacting electron system modelled as a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid. We separate the emission into two parts which may originate in {\em hot luminescence} (HL) and {\em Raman Scattering} (RS) respectively when we neglect the {\em interference} effect. We find a peak around $Δω= v_f |q|$ in the RS part which does not come from a structure factor peak. In general the total emission cannot be separated into HL and RS. However at resonance, and taking into account the $k$ dependence of the optical matrix element, a part of the RS is proportional to the structure factor $S(q_1-q_2, ω_1-ω_2)$.
