Low Rank Based Subspace Inference for the Laplace Approximation of Bayesian Neural Networks

Subspace inference for neural networks assumes that a subspace of their parameter space suffices to produce a reliable uncertainty quantification. In this work, we underpin the validity of this assumption by using low rank techniques. We derive an expression for a subspace model to a Bayesian inference scenario based on the Laplace approximation that is, in a certain sense, optimal given a specific dataset. We empirically show that a Laplace approximation constructed with a dimensionally reduced covariance matrix closely matches the full Laplace approximation obtained using the exact covariance matrix. Where feasible, this subspace model can serve as a baseline for benchmarking the performance of subspace models. In addition, we provide a scalable approximation of this subspace construction that is usable in practice and compare it to existing subspace models from the literature. In general, our approximation scheme outperforms previous work. Furthermore, we present a metric to qualitatively compare the approximation quality of different subspace models even if the exact Laplace approximation is unknown.

Positive helicity Einstein-Yang-Mills amplitudes from the Double Copy

All positive helicity four-point gluon-graviton amplitudes in Einstein-Yang-Mills theory coupled to a dilaton and axion field are computed at the leading one-loop order using colour-kinematics duality. In particular, all relevant contributions in the gravitational and gauge coupling are established. This extends a previous generalized unitarity based computation beyond the leading terms in the gravitational coupling $κ$. The resulting purely rational expressions take very compact forms. The previously seen vanishing of the single-graviton-three-gluon amplitude at leading order in $κ$ is seen to be lifted at order $κ^{3}$.

Mellin Amplitudes for Fermionic Conformal Correlators

We define Mellin amplitudes for the fermion-scalar four point function and the fermion four point function. The Mellin amplitude thus defined has multiple components each associated with a tensor structure. In the case of three spacetime dimensions, we explicitly show that each component factorizes on dynamical poles onto components of the Mellin amplitudes for the corresponding three point functions. The novelty here is that for a given exchanged primary, each component of the Mellin amplitude may in general have more than one series of poles. We present a few examples of Mellin amplitudes for tree-level Witten diagrams and tree-level conformal Feynman integrals with fermionic legs, which illustrate the general properties.
