Credit Card Fraud Detection: A Deep Learning Approach

Credit card is one of the most extensive methods of instalment for both online and offline mode of payment for electronic transactions in recent times. credit cards invention has provided significant ease in electronic transactions. However, it has also provided new fraud opportunities for criminals, which results in increased fraud rates. Substantial amount of money has been lost by many institutions and individuals due to fraudulent credit card transactions. Adapting improved and dynamic fraud recognition frameworks thus became essential for all credit card distributing banks to mitigate their losses. In fact, the problem of fraudulent credit card transactions implicates a number of relevant real-time challenges, namely: Concept drift, Class imbalance, and Verification latency. However, the vast majority of current systems are based on artificial intelligence (AI), Fuzzy logic, Machine Learning, Data mining, Genetic Algorithms, and so on, rely on assumptions that hardly address all the relevant challenges of fraud-detection system (FDS). This paper aims to understand & implement Deep Learning algorithms in order to obtain a high fraud coverage with very low false positive rate. Also, it aims to implement an auto-encoder as an unsupervised (semi-supervised) method of learning common patterns. Keywords: Credit card fraud, Fraud-detection system (FDS), Electronic transactions, Concept drift, Class imbalance, Verification latency, Machine Learning, Deep Learning

A hybrid approach for improving U-Net variants in medical image segmentation

Medical image segmentation is vital to the area of medical imaging because it enables professionals to more accurately examine and understand the information offered by different imaging modalities. The technique of splitting a medical image into various segments or regions of interest is known as medical image segmentation. The segmented images that are produced can be used for many different things, including diagnosis, surgery planning, and therapy evaluation. In initial phase of research, major focus has been given to review existing deep-learning approaches, including researches like MultiResUNet, Attention U-Net, classical U-Net, and other variants. The attention feature vectors or maps dynamically add important weights to critical information, and most of these variants use these to increase accuracy, but the network parameter requirements are somewhat more stringent. They face certain problems such as overfitting, as their number of trainable parameters is very high, and so is their inference time. Therefore, the aim of this research is to reduce the network parameter requirements using depthwise separable convolutions, while maintaining performance over some medical image segmentation tasks such as skin lesion segmentation using attention system and residual connections.

A Weighted Mutual k-Nearest Neighbour for Classification Mining

kNN is a very effective Instance based learning method, and it is easy to implement. Due to heterogeneous nature of data, noises from different possible sources are also widespread in nature especially in case of large-scale databases. For noise elimination and effect of pseudo neighbours, in this paper, we propose a new learning algorithm which performs the task of anomaly detection and removal of pseudo neighbours from the dataset so as to provide comparative better results. This algorithm also tries to minimize effect of those neighbours which are distant. A concept of certainty measure is also introduced for experimental results. The advantage of using concept of mutual neighbours and distance-weighted voting is that, dataset will be refined after removal of anomaly and weightage concept compels to take into account more consideration of those neighbours, which are closer. Consequently, finally the performance of proposed algorithm is calculated.

Deep Reinforcement Learning for Single-Shot Diagnosis and Adaptation in Damaged Robots

Robotics has proved to be an indispensable tool in many industrial as well as social applications, such as warehouse automation, manufacturing, disaster robotics, etc. In most of these scenarios, damage to the agent while accomplishing mission-critical tasks can result in failure. To enable robotic adaptation in such situations, the agent needs to adopt policies which are robust to a diverse set of damages and must do so with minimum computational complexity. We thus propose a damage aware control architecture which diagnoses the damage prior to gait selection while also incorporating domain randomization in the damage space for learning a robust policy. To implement damage awareness, we have used a Long Short Term Memory based supervised learning network which diagnoses the damage and predicts the type of damage. The main novelty of this approach is that only a single policy is trained to adapt against a wide variety of damages and the diagnosis is done in a single trial at the time of damage.

Emergence of Writing Systems Through Multi-Agent Cooperation

Learning to communicate is considered an essential task to develop a general AI. While recent literature in language evolution has studied emergent language through discrete or continuous message symbols, there has been little work in the emergence of writing systems in artificial agents. In this paper, we present a referential game setup with two agents, where the mode of communication is a written language system that emerges during the play. We show that the agents can learn to coordinate successfully using this mode of communication. Further, we study how the game rules affect the writing system taxonomy by proposing a consistency metric.

Theoretical Study of Pest Control Using Stage Structured Natural Enemies with Maturation Delay: A Crop-Pest-Natural Enemy Model

In the natural world, there are many insect species whose individual members have a life history that takes them through two stages, immature and mature. Moreover, the rates of survival, development, and reproduction almost always depend on age, size, or development stage. Keeping this in mind, in this paper, a three species crop-pest-natural enemy food chain model with two stages for natural enemies is investigated. Using characteristic equations, a set of sufficient conditions for local asymptotic stability of all the feasible equilibria is obtained. Moreover, using approach as in (Beretta and Kuang, 2002), the possibility of the existence of a Hopf bifurcation for the interior equilibrium with respect to maturation delay is explored, which shows that the maturation delay plays an important role in the dynamical behavior of three species system. Also obtain some threshold values of maturation delay for the stability-switching of the particular system. In succession, using the normal form theory and center manifold argument, we derive the explicit formulas which determine the stability and direction of bifurcating periodic solutions. Finally, a numerical simulation for supporting the theoretical analysis is given.

An Analytical Approach to Document Clustering Based on Internal Criterion Function

Fast and high quality document clustering is an important task in organizing information, search engine results obtaining from user query, enhancing web crawling and information retrieval. With the large amount of data available and with a goal of creating good quality clusters, a variety of algorithms have been developed having quality-complexity trade-offs. Among these, some algorithms seek to minimize the computational complexity using certain criterion functions which are defined for the whole set of clustering solution. In this paper, we are proposing a novel document clustering algorithm based on an internal criterion function. Most commonly used partitioning clustering algorithms (e.g. k-means) have some drawbacks as they suffer from local optimum solutions and creation of empty clusters as a clustering solution. The proposed algorithm usually does not suffer from these problems and converge to a global optimum, its performance enhances with the increase in number of clusters. We have checked our algorithm against three different datasets for four different values of k (required number of clusters).
