Penetration Testing for System Security: Methods and Practical Approaches

Penetration testing refers to the process of simulating hacker attacks to evaluate the security of information systems . This study aims not only to clarify the theoretical foundations of penetration testing but also to explain and demonstrate the complete testing process, including how network system administrators may simulate attacks using various penetration testing methods. Methodologically, the paper outlines the five basic stages of a typical penetration test: intelligence gathering, vulnerability scanning, vulnerability exploitation, privilege escalation, and post-exploitation activities. In each phase, specific tools and techniques are examined in detail, along with practical guidance on their use. To enhance the practical relevance of the study, the paper also presents a real-life case study, illustrating how a complete penetration test is conducted in a real-world environment. Through this case, readers can gain insights into the detailed procedures and applied techniques, thereby deepening their understanding of the practical value of penetration testing. Finally, the paper summarizes the importance and necessity of penetration testing in securing information systems and maintaining network integrity, and it explores future trends and development directions for the field. Overall, the findings of this paper offer valuable references for both researchers and practitioners, contributing meaningfully to the improvement of penetration testing practices and the advancement of cybersecurity as a whole.

Exploring Vulnerabilities and Concerns in Solana Smart Contracts

The Solana blockchain was created by Anatoly Yakovenko of Solana Labs and was introduced in 2017, employing a novel transaction verification method. However, at the same time, the innovation process introduced some new security issues. The frequent security incidents in smart contracts have not only caused enormous economic losses, but also undermined the credit system based on the blockchain. The security and reliability of smart contracts have become a new focus of research both domestically and abroad. This paper studies the current status of security analysis of Solana by researching Solana smart contract security analysis tools. This paper systematically sorts out the vulnerabilities existing in Solana smart contracts and gives examples of some vulnerabilities, summarizes the principles of security analysis tools, and comprehensively summarizes and details the security analysis tools in Solana smart contracts. The data of Solana smart contract security analysis tools are collected and compared with Ethereum, and the differences are analyzed and some tools are selected for practical testing.

Smart Contracts in the Real World: A Statistical Exploration of External Data Dependencies

Smart contracts with external data are crucial for functionality but pose security and reliability concerns. Statistical and quantitative studies on this interaction are scarce. To address this gap, we analyzed 10,500 smart contracts, retaining 9,356 valid ones after excluding outdated or erroneous ones. We employed code parsing to transform contract code into abstract syntax trees and identified keywords associated with external data dependencies. We conducted a quantitative analysis by comparing these keywords to a reference list. We manually classified the 9,356 valid smart contracts to ascertain their application domains and typical interaction methods with external data. Additionally, we created a database with this data to facilitate research on smart contract dependencies. Moreover, we reviewed over 3,600 security audit reports, manually identifying 249 (approximately 9%) related to external data interactions and categorized their dependencies. We explored the correlation between smart contract complexity and external data dependency to provide insights for their design and auditing processes. These studies aim to enhance the security and reliability of smart contracts and offer practical guidance to developers and auditors.
