Non-local Lagrangians from Renormalons and Analyzable Functions

We embed in a generalized Borel procedure the notion of renormalization and renormalons. While there are several efforts in literature to have a semi-classical understanding of the renormalons, here we argue that this is not the fundamental issue and show how to deal with the problem. We find that the effective Lagrangians describing the effects of renormalons are non-local in space but local in time. The quark-antiquark potential in QCD with an infinite number of fermions is also analyzed. The connection between the analyzable functions, the Callan-Symanzyk equation and the renormalons, provides an insight of a non-perturbative renormalization from the standard perturbative renormalization approach.

Probing Neutrino Dirac Mass in Left-Right Symmetric Models at the LHC and Next Generation Colliders

We assess the sensitivity of the LHC, its high energy upgrade, and a prospective 100 TeV hadronic collider to the Dirac Yukawa coupling of the heavy neutrinos in left-right symmetric models (LRSMs). We focus specifically on the trilepton final state in regions of parameter space yielding prompt decays of the right-handed gauge bosons ($W_R$) and neutrinos ($N_R$). In the minimal LRSM, the Dirac Yukawa couplings are completely fixed in terms of the mass matrices for the heavy and light neutrinos. In this case, the trilepton signal provides a direct probe of the Dirac mass term for a fixed $W_R$ and $N_R$ mass. We find that while it is possible to discover the $W_R$ at the LHC, probing the Dirac Yukawa couplings will require a 100 TeV $pp$ collider. We also show that the observation of the trilepton signal at the LHC would indicate the presence of a non-minimal LRSM scenario.

Resummation in QFT with Meijer G-functions

We employ a recent resummation method to deal with divergent series, based on the Meijer G-function, which gives access to the non-perturbative regime of any QFT from the first few known coefficients in the perturbative expansion. Using this technique, we consider in detail the $ϕ^4$ model where we estimate the non-perturbative $β-$function and prove that its asymptotic behavior correctly reproduces instantonic effects calculated using semiclassical methods. After reviewing the emergence of the renormalons in this theory, we also speculate on how one can resum them. Finally, we resum the non-perturbative $β-$function of abelian and non-abelian gauge-fermion theories and analyze the behavior of these theories as a function of the number of fermion flavors. While in the former no fixed points are found, in the latter, a richer phase diagram is uncovered and illustrated by the regions of confinement, large-distance conformality, and asymptotic safety.

Resummation and renormalons in a general Quantum Field Theory

We generalize the concept of Borel resummability and renormalons to a quantum field theory with an arbitrary number of fields and couplings, starting from the known notion based on the running coupling constants. An approach to identify the renormalons is provided by exploiting an analytic solution of the generic one-loop renormalization group equations in multi-field theories. Methods to evaluate the regions in coupling space where the theory is resummable are described. The generalization is then illustrated in a toy model with two coupled scalar fields, representing the simplest extension of the one-field analysis presented in the seminal works of the subject. Furthermore, possible links to realistic theories are briefly discussed.

Probing the Dirac or Majorana nature of the Heavy Neutrinos in pure leptonic decays at the LHC

We propose a strategy for distinguishing the Dirac / Majorana character of heavy neutrinos with masses below the $W$ boson mass, using purely leptonic decays at the LHC. The strategy makes use of a forward-backward asymmetry of the opposite charge lepton in the $W^{+}\rightarrow l^{+}l^{+}l^{'-}ν$ decay. In order to check the experimental feasibility of the model, we show, through a numerical analysis, that in the decay $W^{+}\rightarrow e^{+}e^{+}μ^{-}ν$ the two positrons in the final state can be distinguished for different ranges of the heavy neutrino masses. Finally, we estimated the number of events of $W^{+}\rightarrow e^{+}e^{+}μ^{-}ν$ for a Dirac and Majorana $N$ neutrino. For an integrated luminosity of 120 fb$^{-1}$ at LHC RUN II, signals can be found if heavy-to-light neutrino mixings are $ |U_{N μ}|^2,|U_{N e}|^2 \gtrsim 10^{-6} $.

Higgs Sector of the Left-Right Symmetric Theory

We perform an in-depth analysis of the Higgs sector in the Minimal Left-Right Symmetric Model and compute the scalar mass spectrum and associated mixings, offering simple physical and symmetry arguments in support of our findings. We identify the tree-level quartic and cubic potential couplings in terms of the physical states and compute the quantum corrections for the latter ones. The deviations from the Standard Model prediction of the cubic Higgs doublet coupling are considered. Moreover we discuss the possible implications concerning the stability of the potential under the renormalization-group-equations evolution. In particular we examine three possible energy scales of parity restoration: LHC reach, next hadronic collider and very high energy relevant for grand unification.

Majorana Higgses at colliders

Collider signals of heavy Majorana neutrino mass origin are studied in the minimal Left-Right symmetric model, where their mass is generated spontaneously together with the breaking of lepton number. The right-handed triplet Higgs boson $Δ$, responsible for such breaking, can be copiously produced at the LHC through the Higgs portal in the gluon fusion and less so in gauge mediated channels. At $Δ$ masses below the opening of the $VV$ decay channel, the two observable modes are pair-production of heavy neutrinos via the triplet gluon fusion $gg \to Δ\to NN$ and pair production of triplets from the Higgs $h \to ΔΔ\to 4N$ decay. The latter features tri- and quad same-sign lepton final states that break lepton number by four units and have no significant background. In both cases up to four displaced vertices may be present and their displacement may serve as a discriminating variable. The backgrounds at the LHC, including the jet fake rate, are estimated and the resulting sensitivity to the Left-Right breaking scale extends well beyond 10 TeV. In addition, sub-dominant radiative modes are surveyed: the $γγ$, $Z γ$ and lepton flavour violating ones. Finally, prospects for $Δ$ signals at future $e^+ e^-$ colliders are presented.

Neutrino-axion-dilaton interconnection

We show that a recently proposed framework that provides a simple connection between Majorana neutrinos and an invisible axion in minimal scalar extensions of the standard electroweak model can be naturally embedded in a classically scale-invariant setup. The explicit breaking of the scale invariance à la Coleman-Weinberg generates the Peccei-Quinn and electroweak scales. The spontaneous breaking of the chiral $U(1)_{PQ}$ triggers the generation of neutrino masses via Type-II seesaw and, at the same time, provides a dynamical solution to the strong CP problem as well as the axion as a dark matter candidate. The electroweak and neutrino mass scales are obtained via a technically natural ultraweak limit of the singlet scalar interactions. Accordingly, a realistic and perturbatively stable scalar spectrum, possibly in the reach of the LHC, is naturally obtained. A very light pseudodilaton characterizes such a setting. The vacuum stability of the extended setup is discussed.

Right-handed lepton mixings at the LHC

We study how the elements of the leptonic right-handed mixing matrix can be determined at the LHC in the minimal Left-Right symmetric extension of the standard model. We do it by explicitly relating them with physical quantities of the Keung-Senjanović process and the lepton number violating decays of the right doubly charged scalar. We also point out that the left and right doubly charged scalars can be distinguished at the LHC, without measuring the polarization of the final state leptons coming from their decays.

Time-reversal symmetry violation in several Lepton-Flavor-Violating processes

We compute a T-odd triple vector correlation for the $μ\rightarrow eγ$ decay and the $μ\rightarrow e$ conversion process. We find simple results in terms of the CP violating phases of the effective Hamiltonians. Then we focus on the minimal Left-Right symmetric extension of the Standard Model, which can lead to an appreciable correlation. We show that under rather general assumptions, this correlation can be used to discriminate between Parity or Charge-conjugation as the discrete Left-Right symmetry.

Self-gravitating non-abelian kinks as brane worlds

We address the properties of self-gravitating domain walls arising from the breaking of an SU(N) x Z_2- symmetric theory. In the particular case of N=5, we find that the two classes of stable non-abelian kinks possible in flat space have an analogue in the gravitational case, and construct the analytical solutions. Localization of fermion fields in different representations of the gauge group in these branes is investigated. It is also shown that non-abelian gauge fields localization cannot be achieved through interactions with the brane, but that in one of the two classes of kinks this localization can be implemented via the Dvali-Shifman mechanism.
