On correlation functions in the coordinate and the algebraic Bethe ansatz

The Bethe ansatz, both in its coordinate and its algebraic version, is an exceptional method to compute the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of integrable systems. However, computing correlation functions using the eigenvectors thus constructed complicates rather fast. In this article, we will compute some simple correlation functions for the isotropic Heisenberg spin chain to highlight the shortcomings of both Bethe ansätze. In order to compare the results obtained from each approach, a discussion on the normalization of states in each ansatz will be required. We will show that the analysis can be extended to the long-range spin chain governing the spectrum of anomalous dimensions of single trace operators in four-dimensional Yang-Mills with maximal supersymmetry.

The $SU(2)$ Wess-Zumino-Witten spin chain sigma model

Classical strings propagating in $AdS_{3}\times S^{3}\times T^{4}$ supported with Neveu-Schwarz-Neveu-Schwarz flux are described by a Wess-Zumino-Witten model. In this note, we study the emergence of their semiclassical $SU(2)$ spectrally flowed sectors as the Landau-Lifshitz limit of the underlying quantum spin chain. We consider the propagator in the coherent state picture, and find that the time interval is discretized proportionally to the lattice spacing. In the Landau-Lifshitz limit, where both time and space become continuous, we derive a path integral representation of the propagator for each spectrally flowed sector. We prove that the arbitrariness of the global phase of coherent states is mapped to the gauge freedom of the $B$-field in the classical action. We show that higher order corrections in the Landau-Lifshitz limit are suppressed by inverse powers of the 't Hooft coupling.

Quantum corrections to minimal surfaces with mixed three-form flux

We obtain the ratio of semiclassical partition functions for the extension under mixed flux of the minimal surfaces subtending a circumference and a line in Euclidean $AdS_{3}\times S^{3}\times T^{4}$. We reduce the problem to the computation of a set of functional determinants. If the Ramond-Ramond flux does not vanish, we find that the contribution of the $B$-field is comprised in the conformal anomaly. In this case, we successively apply the Gel'fand-Yaglom method and the Abel-Plana formula to the flat-measure determinants. To cancel the resultant infrared divergences, we shift the regularization of the sum over half-integers depending on whether it corresponds to massive or massless fermionic modes. We show that the result is compatible with the zeta-function regularization approach. In the limit of pure Neveu-Schwarz-Neveu-Schwarz flux we argue that the computation trivializes. We extend the reasoning to other surfaces with the same behavior in this regime.

Norms and scalar products for AdS_3

We compute scalar products and norms of Bethe vectors in the massless sector of AdS_3 integrable superstring theories, by exploiting the general difference form of the S-matrix of massless excitations in the pure Ramond-Ramond case, and the difference form valid only in the BMN limit in the mixed-flux case. We obtain determinant-like formulas for the scalar products, generalising a procedure developed in previous literature for standard R-matrices to the present non-conventional situation. We verify our expressions against explicit calculations using Bethe vectors for chains of small length, and perform some computer tests of the exact formulas as far as numerical accuracy sustains us. This should be the first step towards the derivation of integrable form-factors and correlation functions for the AdS_3 S-matrix theory.

Minimal surfaces with mixed three-form flux

We study minimal area world sheets ending on two concentric circumferences on the boundary of Euclidean $AdS_{3}$ with mixed R-R and NS-NS three-form fluxes. We solve the problem by reducing the system to a one-dimensional integrable model. We find that the NS-NS flux term either brings the surface near to the boundary or separates the circumferences. In the limit of pure NS-NS flux the solution adheres to the boundary in the former case and the outer radius diverges in the latter. We further construct the underlying elliptic spectral curve, which allows us to analyze the deformation of other related minimal surfaces. We show that in the regime of pure NS-NS flux the elliptic curve degenerates.

Cutting the cylinder into squares: The square form factor

In this article we present a method for constructing two-point functions in the spirit of the hexagon proposal, which leads us to propose a "square form factor". Since cutting the square gives us two squares, we can write a consistency condition that heavily constrains such form factors. In particular, we are able to use this constraint to reconstruct the Gaudin through the forest expansion of the determinant appearing in its definition. We also use this procedure to compute the norm of off-shell Bethe states for some simple cases.

One-loop quantization of rigid spinning strings in $AdS_3 \times S^3 \times T^4$ with mixed flux

We compute the one-loop correction to the classical dispersion relation of rigid closed spinning strings with two equal angular momenta in the $AdS_3 \times S^3 \times T^4$ background supported with a mixture of R-R and NS-NS three-form fluxes. This analysis is extended to the case of two arbitrary angular momenta in the pure NS-NS limit. We perform this computation by means of two different methods. The first method relies on the Euler-Lagrange equations for the quadratic fluctuations around the classical solution, while the second one exploits the underlying integrability of the problem through the finite-gap equations. We find that the one-loop correction vanishes in the pure NS-NS limit.

Pulsating strings with mixed three-form flux

Circular strings pulsating in $AdS_3 \times S^3 \times T^4$ with mixed R-R and NS-NS three-form fluxes can be described by an integrable deformation of the one-dimensional Neumann-Rosochatius mechanical model. In this article we find a general class of pulsating solutions to this integrable system that can be expressed in terms of elliptic functions. In the limit of strings moving in $AdS_{3}$ with pure NS-NS three-form flux, where the action reduces to the $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ WZW model, we find agreement with the analysis of the classical solutions of the system performed using spectral flow by Maldacena and Ooguri. We use our elliptic solutions in $AdS_{3}$ to extend the dispersion relation beyond the limit of pure NS-NS flux.

Spinning strings and correlation functions in the AdS/CFT correspondence

In this thesis we present some computations made in both sides of the AdS/CFT holographic correspondence using the integrability of both theories. Regarding the string theory side, this thesis is focused in the computation of the dispersion relation of closed spinning strings in some deformed $AdS_3 \times S^3$ backgrounds. In particular we are going to focus in the deformation provided by the mixing of R-R and NS-NS fluxes and the so-called $η$-deformation. These computations are made using the classical integrability of these two deformed string theories, which is provided by the presence of a set of conserved quantities called "Uhlenbeck constants". The existence of the Uhlenbeck constants is central for the method used to derive the dispersion relations. Regarding the gauge theory side, we are interested in the computation of two and three-point correlation functions. Concerning the two-point function a computation of correlation functions involving different operators and different number of excitations is performed using the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz and the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method. These results are compared with computations done with the Coordinate Bethe Ansatz and with Zamolodchikov-Faddeev operators. Concerning the three-point functions, we will explore the novel construction given by the hexagon framework. In particular we are going to start from the already proposed hexagon form factor and rewrite it in a language more resembling of the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz. For this intent we construct an invariant vertex using Zamolodchikov-Faddeev operators, which is checked for some simple cases.

Spinning strings in the $η$-deformed Neumann-Rosochatius system

The sigma-model of closed strings spinning in the $η$-deformation of $AdS_{5} \times S^{5}$ leads to an integrable deformation of the one-dimensional Neumann-Rosochatius mechanical system. In this article we construct general solutions to this system that can be written in terms of elliptic functions. The solutions correspond to closed strings with non-constant radii rotating with two different angular momenta in an $η$-deformed three-sphere. We analyse the reduction of the elliptic solutions for some limiting values of the deformation parameter. For the case of solutions with constant radii we find the dependence of the classical energy of the string on the angular momenta as an expansion in the 't Hooft coupling.

Elliptic solutions in the Neumann-Rosochatius system with mixed flux

Closed strings spinning in AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4 with mixed R-R and NS-NS three-form fluxes are described by a deformation of the one-dimensional Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system. In this article we find general solutions to this system that can be expressed in terms of elliptic functions. We consider closed strings rotating either in S^3 with two different angular momenta or in AdS_3 with one spin. In order to find the solutions we will need to extend the Uhlenbeck integrals of motion of the Neumann-Rosochatius system to include the contribution from the flux. In the limit of pure NS-NS flux, where the problem can be described by a supersymmetric WZW model, we find exact expressions for the classical energy in terms of the spin and the angular momenta of the spinning string.

Spinning strings in AdS_3 x S^3 with NS-NS flux

The sigma model describing closed strings rotating in AdS_3 x S^3 is known to reduce to the one-dimensional Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system. In this article we show that closed spinning strings in AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4 in the presence of NS-NS three-form flux can be described by an extension of the Neumann-Rosochatius system. We consider closed strings rotating with one spin in AdS_3 and two different angular momenta in S^3. For a class of solutions with constant radii we find the dependence of the classical energy on the spin and the angular momenta as an expansion in the square of the 't Hooft coupling of the theory.

Holographic correlation functions of hexagon Wilson loops with one local operator

We consider the ratio of the correlation function of an hexagon light-like Wilson loop with one local operator over the expectation value of the Wilson loop within the strong-coupling regime of the AdS/CFT correspondence. We choose the hexagon Wilson loop within a class of minimal solutions obtained by cutting and gluing light-like quadrangle loops. These surfaces do not have an interpretation in terms of dual scattering amplitudes but they still exhibit general features of the mixed correlation function. In the case of a regular null hexagon conformal symmetry constrains the space-time dependence of the correlator up to a function of three conformal cross-ratios. We obtain the leading-order contribution to the correlation function in the semiclassical approximation of large string tension, and express the result in terms of three conformal ratios in the case where the local operator is taken to be the dilaton. We include the analysis of an irregular Wilson loop obtained after a boost of the regular hexagon.
