Visualizing the Invisible: Enhancing Radiologist Performance in Breast Mammography via Task-Driven Chromatic Encoding

Purpose:Mammography screening is less sensitive in dense breasts, where tissue overlap and subtle findings increase perceptual difficulty. We present MammoColor, an end-to-end framework with a Task-Driven Chromatic Encoding (TDCE) module that converts single-channel mammograms into TDCE-encoded views for visual augmentation. Materials and Methods:MammoColor couples a lightweight TDCE module with a BI-RADS triage classifier and was trained end-to-end on VinDr-Mammo. Performance was evaluated on an internal test set, two public datasets (CBIS-DDSM and INBreast), and three external clinical cohorts. We also conducted a multi-reader, multi-case (MRMC) observer study with a washout period, comparing (1) grayscale-only, (2) TDCE-only, and (3) side-by-side grayscale+TDCE. Results:On VinDr-Mammo, MammoColor improved AUC from 0.7669 to 0.8461 (P=0.004). Gains were larger in dense breasts (AUC 0.749 to 0.835). In the MRMC study, TDCE-encoded images improved specificity (0.90 to 0.96; P=0.052) with comparable sensitivity. Conclusion:TDCE provides a task-optimized chromatic representation that may improve perceptual salience and reduce false-positive recalls in mammography triage.

Data-Efficient Meningioma Segmentation via Implicit Spatiotemporal Mixing and Sim2Real Semantic Injection

The performance of medical image segmentation is increasingly defined by the efficiency of data utilization rather than merely the volume of raw data. Accurate segmentation, particularly for complex pathologies like meningiomas, demands that models fully exploit the latent information within limited high-quality annotations. To maximize the value of existing datasets, we propose a novel dual-augmentation framework that synergistically integrates spatial manifold expansion and semantic object injection. Specifically, we leverage Implicit Neural Representations (INR) to model continuous velocity fields. Unlike previous methods, we perform linear mixing on the integrated deformation fields, enabling the efficient generation of anatomically plausible variations by interpolating within the deformation space. This approach allows for the extensive exploration of structural diversity from a small set of anchors. Furthermore, we introduce a Sim2Real lesion injection module. This module constructs a high-fidelity simulation domain by transplanting lesion textures into healthy anatomical backgrounds, effectively bridging the gap between synthetic augmentation and real-world pathology. Comprehensive experiments on a hybrid dataset demonstrate that our framework significantly enhances the data efficiency and robustness of state-of-the-art models, including nnU-Net and U-Mamba, offering a potent strategy for high-performance medical image analysis with limited annotation budgets.

Mammo-Clustering: Context Clustering based Multi-view Tri Level Information Fusion for Lesion Location and Classification in Mammography

Breast cancer is a significant global health issue, and the diagnosis of breast cancer through imaging remains challenging. Mammography images are characterized by extremely high resolution, while lesions often occupy only a small portion of the image. Down-sampling in neural networks can easily lead to the loss of microcalcifications or subtle structures. To tackle these challenges, we propose a Context Clustering based triple information fusion framework. First, in comparison to CNNs or transformers, we observe that Context clustering methods are (1) more computationally efficient and (2) better at associating structural or pathological features. This makes them particularly well-suited for mammography in clinical settings. Next, we propose a triple information fusion mechanism that integrates global, feature-based local, and patch-based local information. The proposed approach is rigorously evaluated on two public datasets, Vindr-Mammo and CBIS-DDSM, using five independent data splits to ensure statistical robustness. Our method achieves an AUC of 0.828 \pm 0.020 on Vindr-Mammo and 0.805 \pm 0.020 on CBIS-DDSM, outperforming the second best method by 3.5% and 2.5%, respectively. These improvements are statistically significant (p<0.05), highlighting the advantages of the Context Clustering Network with triple information fusion. Overall, our Context Clustering framework demonstrates strong potential as a scalable and cost-effective solution for large-scale mammography screening, enabling more efficient and accurate breast cancer detection. Mammo-Clustering: A Multi-views Tri-level Information Fusion Context Clustering Framework for Localization and Classification in Mammography

Breast cancer is a significant global health issue, and the diagnosis of breast imaging has always been challenging. Mammography images typically have extremely high resolution, with lesions occupying only a very small area. Down-sampling in neural networks can easily lead to the loss of microcalcifications or subtle structures, making it difficult for traditional neural network architectures to address these issues. To tackle these challenges, we propose a Context Clustering Network with triple information fusion. Firstly, compared to CNNs or transformers, we find that Context clustering methods (1) are more computationally efficient and (2) can more easily associate structural or pathological features, making them suitable for the clinical tasks of mammography. Secondly, we propose a triple information fusion mechanism that integrates global information, feature-based local information, and patch-based local information. The proposed approach is rigorously evaluated on two public datasets, Vindr-Mammo and CBIS-DDSM, using five independent splits to ensure statistical robustness. Our method achieves an AUC of 0.828 on Vindr-Mammo and 0.805 on CBIS-DDSM, outperforming the next best method by 3.1% and 2.4%, respectively. These improvements are statistically significant (p<0.05), underscoring the benefits of Context Clustering Network with triple information fusion. Overall, our Context Clustering framework demonstrates strong potential as a scalable and cost-effective solution for large-scale mammography screening, enabling more efficient and accurate breast cancer detection. Data-Driven Assisted Chance-Constrained Energy and Reserve Scheduling with Wind Curtailment

Chance-constrained optimization (CCO) has been widely used for uncertainty management in power system operation. With the prevalence of wind energy, it becomes possible to consider the wind curtailment as a dispatch variable in CCO. However, the wind curtailment will cause impulse for the uncertainty distribution, yielding challenges for the chance constraints modeling. To deal with that, a data-driven framework is developed. By modeling the wind curtailment as a cap enforced on the wind power output, the proposed framework constructs a Gaussian process (GP) surrogate to describe the relationship between wind curtailment and the chance constraints. This allows us to reformulate the CCO with wind curtailment as a mixed-integer second-order cone programming (MI-SOCP) problem. An error correction strategy is developed by solving a convex linear programming (LP) to improve the modeling accuracy. Case studies performed on the PJM 5-bus and IEEE 118-bus systems demonstrate that the proposed method is capable of accurately accounting the influence of wind curtailment dispatch in CCO.

Incorporating Gas Pipeline Leakage Failure Modes in Risk Evaluation of Electricity-Gas Integrated Energy Systems

In the existing literatures for the risk evaluation of electricity-gas integrated energy system (EGIES), the impacts of gas leakage in pipelines are ignored. This paper presents a method to incorporate the failure modes of gas pipeline leakage in EGIES risk evaluation. A Markov state transition model of gas pipeline with multi-state and multi-mode transition process, and a bi-level Monte Carlo sampling method for this model are developed. A stochastic topology change based network model of EGIES considering the pipeline leakage failure modes is presented. The risk indices for EGIES based on the load shedding, including those specifically for gas leakage risks, are also proposed. An EGIES with a modified RBTS and a 7-node gas system was used to demonstrate an application of the proposed method and models. The results indicate that pipeline leakage failures have significant impacts on the risk of EGIES. Ignoring pipeline leakage failures in the risk evaluation of EGIES will result in an overly underestimation of system risk and most likely a misleading conclusion in system planning.

Data-driven Optimal Power Flow: A Physics-Informed Machine Learning Approach

This paper proposes a data-driven approach for optimal power flow (OPF) based on the stacked extreme learning machine (SELM) framework. SELM has a fast training speed and does not require the time-consuming parameter tuning process compared with the deep learning algorithms. However, the direct application of SELM for OPF is not tractable due to the complicated relationship between the system operating status and the OPF solutions. To this end, a data-driven OPF regression framework is developed that decomposes the OPF model features into three stages. This not only reduces the learning complexity but also helps correct the learning bias. A sample pre-classification strategy based on active constraint identification is also developed to achieve enhanced feature attractions. Numerical results carried out on IEEE and Polish benchmark systems demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other alternatives. It is also shown that the proposed method can be easily extended to address different test systems by adjusting only a few hyperparameters.

Quantum enhanced optical phase estimation with a squeezed thermal state

Quantum phase estimation protocols can provide a measuring method of phase shift with precision superior to standard quantum limit (SQL) due to the application of a nonclassical state of light. A squeezed vacuum state, whose variance in one quadrature is lower than the corresponding SQL, has been pointed out a sensitive resource for quantum phase estimation and the estimation accuracy is directly influenced by the properties of the squeezed state. Here we detailedly analyze the influence of the purity and squeezing level of the squeezed state on the accuracy of quantum phase estimation. The maximum precision that can be achieved for a squeezed thermal state is evaluated, and the experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical analyses. It is also found that the width of the phase estimation interval $\Delta \theta $ beyond SQL is correlated with the purity of the squeezed state.

Nonlinear Improvement of Qubit-qudit Entanglement Witnesses

The entanglement witness is an important and experimentally applicable tool for entanglement detection. In this paper, we provide a nonlinear improvement of any entanglement witness for $2\otimes d$ quantum systems. Compared with any existing entanglement witness, the improved separability criterion only needs two more measurements on local observables. Detailed examples are employed to illustrate the efficiency of the nonlinear improvement for general, optimal and non-decomposable entanglement witnesses.

Fast Calculation of Probabilistic Optimal Power Flow: A Deep Learning Approach

Probabilistic optimal power flow (POPF) is an important analytical tool to ensure the secure and economic operation of power systems. POPF needs to solve enormous nonlinear and nonconvex optimization problems. The huge computational burden has become the major bottleneck for the practical application. This paper presents a deep learning approach to solve the POPF problem efficiently and accurately. Taking advantage of the deep structure and reconstructive strategy of stacked denoising auto encoders (SDAE), a SDAE-based optimal power flow (OPF) is developed to extract the high-level nonlinear correlations between the system operating condition and the OPF solution. A training process is designed to learn the feature of POPF. The trained SDAE network can be utilized to conveniently calculate the OPF solution of random samples generated by Monte-Carlo simulation (MCS) without the need of optimization. A modified IEEE 118-bus power system is simulated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Fast Calculation of Probabilistic Power Flow: A Model-based Deep Learning Approach

Probabilistic power flow (PPF) plays a critical role in power system analysis. However, the high computational burden makes it challenging for the practical implementation of PPF. This paper proposes a model-based deep learning approach to overcome the computational challenge. A deep neural network (DNN) is used to approximate the power flow calculation and is trained according to the physical power flow equations to improve its learning ability. The training process consists of several steps: 1) the branch flows are added into the objective function of the DNN as a penalty term, which improves the approximation accuracy of the DNN; 2) the gradients used in the back propagation process are simplified according to the physical characteristics of the transmission grid, which accelerates the training speed while maintaining effective guidance of the physical model; and 3) an improved initialization method for the DNN parameters is proposed to improve the convergence speed. The simulation results demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method in standard IEEE and utility benchmark systems.

Improved Separability Criteria Based on Bloch Representation of Density Matrices

The correlation matrices or tensors in the Bloch representation of density matrices are encoded with entanglement properties. In this paper, based on the Bloch representation of density matrices, we give some new separability criteria for bipartite and multipartite quantum states. Theoretical analysis and some examples show that the proposed criteria can be more efficient than the previous related criteria.

Possible link of a structurally driven spin flip transition and the insulator-metal transition in the perovskite La$_{1-x}$Ba$_{x}$CoO$_{3}$

The complex nature of the magnetic ground state in La$_{1-x}$A$_{x}$CoO$_{3}$ (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) has been investigated via neutron scattering. It was previously observed that ferromagnetic (FM) as well as antiferromagnetic (AFM) correlations can coexist prior to the insulator-metal transition (IMT). We focused on a unique region in the Ba phase diagram, from x = 0.17 - 0.22, in which a commensurate AFM phase appears first with a propagation vector, k = (0, -0.5, 0.5), and the Co moment in the (001)$_{R}$ plane of the rhombohedral lattice. With increasing x, the AFM component weakens while an FM order appears with the FM Co moment directed along the (001)$_{R}$ (=(111)$_{C}$) axis. By x = 0.22, a spin flip to new FM component appears as the crystal fully transforms to an orthorhombic (Pnma) structure, with the Co moments pointing along a new direction, (001)$_{O}$ (=(110)$_{C}$). It is the emergence of the magnetic Pnma phase that leads to IMT.
