On Integrality of Non-Semisimple Quantum Representations of Mapping Class Groups

For a root of unity $ζ$ of odd prime order, we restrict coefficients of non-semisimple quantum representations of mapping class groups associated with the small quantum group $\mathfrak{u}_ζ\mathfrak{sl}_2$ from $\mathbb{Q}(ζ)$ to $\mathbb{Z}[ζ]$. We do this by exhibiting explicit bases of states spaces that span $\mathbb{Z}[ζ]$-lattices that are invariant under projective actions of mapping class groups.

Quantum groups from homologies of configuration spaces

We reconstruct a quantum group associated with any Lie algebra together with its representation theory from twisted homologies of generalized configuration spaces of disks. Along the way it brings new combinatorics to the theory, but our diagrams represent true submanifolds of configuration spaces and combinatorial relations between them translate actual twisted homological relations.

On kernels of homological representations of mapping class groups

We study the kernels of representations of mapping class groups of surfaces on twisted homologies of configuration spaces. We relate them with the kernel of a natural twisted intersection pairing: if the latter kernel is trivial then the representation is faithful. As a main example, we study the representations $ρ_{n}$ of $\mathrm{Mod}(Σ_{g,1})$ based on a Heisenberg local system on the $n$ points configuration space of $Σ_{g,1}$, introduced by Blanchet--Palmer--Shaukat, and some of their specializations. In the one point configuration case, or when the Heisenberg group is quotiented by an element of its center, we find kernel elements in the twisted intersection form. On the other hand, for $n>2$ configuration points and the full Heisenberg local system, we identify subrepresentations of subgroups of $\mathrm{Mod}(Σ_{g,1})$ with Lawrence representations. In particular, we find one of these subgroups, which is isomorphic to a pure braid group on $g$ strands, on which the representations $ρ_n$ are faithful.

Hennings TQFTs for Cobordisms Decorated With Cohomology Classes

Starting from an abelian group $G$ and a factorizable ribbon Hopf $G$-bialgebra $H$, we construct a TQFT $J_H$ for connected framed cobordisms between connected surfaces with connected boundary decorated with cohomology classes with coefficients in $G$. When restricted to the subcategory of cobordisms with trivial decorations, our functor recovers a special case of Kerler-Lyubashenko TQFTs, namely those associated with factorizable ribbon Hopf algebras. Our result is inspired by the work of Blanchet-Costantino-Geer-Patureau, who constructed non-semisimple TQFTs for admissible decorated cobordisms using the unrolled quantum group of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$, and by that of Geer-Ha-Patureau, who reformulated the underlying invariants of admissible decorated $3$-manifolds using ribbon Hopf $G$-coalgebras. Our work represents the first step towards a homological model for non-semisimple TQFTs decorated with cohomology classes that appears in a conjecture by the first two authors.

Homological Construction of Quantum Representations of Mapping Class Groups

We provide a homological model for a family of quantum representations of mapping class groups arising from non-semisimple TQFTs (Topological Quantum Field Theories). Our approach gives a new geometric point of view on these representations, and it gathers into one theory two of the most promising constructions for investigating linearity of mapping class groups. More precisely, if $\varSigma_{g,1}$ is a surface of genus $g$ with $1$ boundary component, we consider a (crossed) action of its mapping class group $\mathrm{Mod}(\varSigma_{g,1})$ on the homology of its configuration space $\mathrm{Conf}_n(\varSigma_{g,1})$ with twisted coefficients in the Heisenberg quotient $\mathbb{H}_g$ of its surface braid group $π_1(\mathrm{Conf}_n(\varSigma_{g,1}))$. We show that this action intertwines an action of the quantum group of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$, that we define by purely homological means. For a finite-dimensional linear representation of $\mathbb{H}_g$ (depending on a root of unity $ζ$), we tweak the construction to obtain a projective representation of $\mathrm{Mod}(\varSigma_{g,1})$. Finally, we identify, by an explicit isomorphism, a subrepresentation of $\mathrm{Mod}(\varSigma_{g,1})$ that is equivalent to the quantum representation arising from the non-semisimple TQFT associated with quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at $ζ$. In the process, we provide concrete bases and explicit formulas for the actions of all the standard generators of $\mathrm{Mod}(\varSigma_{g,1})$ and of quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ on both sides of the equivalence, and answer a question by Crivelli, Felder, and Wieczerkowski. We also make sure that the restriction of these representations to the Torelli group $\mathcal{I}(\varSigma_{g,1})$ are integral, in the sense that the actions have coefficients in the ring of cyclotomic integers $\mathbb{Z}[ζ]$, when expressed in these bases.

Unified invariant of knots from homological braid action on Verma modules

We re-build the quantum sl2 unified invariant of knots $F_{\infty}$ from braid groups' action on tensors of Verma modules. It is a two variables series having the particularity of interpolating both families of colored Jones polynomials and ADO polynomials, i.e. semi-simple and non semi-simple invariants of knots constructed from quantum sl2. We prove this last fact in our context which re-proves (a generalization of) the famous Melvin-Morton-Rozansky conjecture first proved by Bar-Natan and Garoufalidis. We find a symmetry of $F_{\infty}$ nicely generalizing the well known one of the Alexander polynomial, ADO polynomials also inherit this symmetry. It implies that quantum sl2 non semi-simple invariants are not detecting knots' orientation. Using the homological definition of Verma modules we express $F_{\infty}$ as a generating sum of intersection pairing between fixed Lagrangians of configuration spaces of disks. Finally, we give a formula for $F_{\infty}$ using a generalized notion of determinant, that provides one for the ADO family. It generalizes that for the Alexander invariant.

A homological model for $U_q \mathfrak{sl}(2)$ Verma-modules and their braid representations

We extend Lawrence's representations of the braid groups to relative homology modules, and we show that they are free modules over a Laurent polynomials ring. We define homological operators and we show that they actually provide a representation for an integral version for $U_q \mathfrak{sl}(2)$. We suggest an isomorphism between a given basis of homological modules and the standard basis of tensor products of Verma modules, and we show it to preserve the integral ring of coefficients, the action of $U_q \mathfrak{sl}(2)$, the braid group representations and their grading. This recovers an integral version for Kohno's theorem relating absolute Lawrence representations with quantum braid representation on highest weight vectors. It is an extension of the latter theorem as we get rid of generic conditions on parameters, and as we recover the entire product of Verma-modules as a braid group and a $U_q \mathfrak{sl}(2)$-module.

Colored Jones polynomials and abelianized Lefschetz numbers

We show that the family of colored Jones polynomials of the closure of a braid compute weighted sums of abelianized Lefschetz numbers associated with the action of the braid on configuration spaces. The sum is over the number of configuration points. Then we interpret this sum in terms of Poincare--Lefschetz duality intersection pairing between homology classes.

The non semi-simple TQFT of the sphere with four punctures

In this work, we compute the representation of the mapping class group of the sphere with $4$ punctures arising from the non semi-simple TQFT (constructed by Blanchet--Costantino--Geer--Patureau). We show that it is faithful. Lastly, we compare quantum representations of punctured spheres in general with those of braid groups.

Colored version for Lawrence representations

We give an explicit isomorphism between the Gassner representation and the first weight level of a representation of quantum sl(2). Then we construct and provide matrices for colored versions of the BKL representation and higher Lawrence's representations.
