Scalar quasinormal modes of Kerr--AdS$_{\bf 7}$ via accessory parameter expansions

We study scalar perturbations of a seven-dimensional Kerr--AdS black hole with three independent rotation parameters. In this geometry, the Klein--Gordon equation separates into one radial and two angular second-order linear ordinary differential equations, each with five regular singular points. We apply the Hill determinant method to compute analytic expansions of the accessory parameters in two different parameter regimes. The resulting accessory parameter expansions coincide with those obtained from the instanton part of the Nekrasov--Shatashvili function of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ quiver gauge theories. These expansions are then used to derive perturbative expressions for the angular eigenvalues in the slowly rotating limit and for the quasinormal mode frequencies in the small black hole limit.

Quasinormal modes of a Proca field in Schwarzschild-AdS$_5$ spacetime via the isomonodromy method

We consider Proca field perturbations in a five-dimensional Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter (Schwarzschild-AdS$_{5}$) black hole geometry. Using the vector spherical harmonic (VSH) method, we show that the Proca field decomposes into scalar-type and vector-type components according to their tensorial behavior on the three-sphere. Two degrees of freedom of the field are described by scalar-type components, which are coupled due to the mass term, while the remaining two degrees of freedom are described by a vector-type component, which decouples completely. Motivated by the Frolov-Krtouš-Kubizňák-Santos (FKKS) ansatz in the limit of zero spin, we use a field transformation to decouple the scalar-type components at the expense of introducing a complex separation parameter $β$. This parameter can be determined analytically, and its values correspond to two distinct polarizations of the scalar-type sector: "electromagnetic" and "non-electromagnetic", denoted by $β_{+}$ and $β_{-}$, respectively. In the scalar-type sector, the radial differential equation for each polarization is a Fuchsian differential equation with five singularities, whereas in the vector-type sector, the radial equation has four singularities. By means of the isomonodromy method, we reformulate the boundary value problem in terms of the initial conditions of the Painlevé VI $τ$ function and, using a series expansion of the $τ$ function, we compute the scalar-type and vector-type quasinormal modes (QNMs) in the small horizon limit. Our results are in overall very good agreement with those obtained via the numerical integration method. This shows that the isomonodromy method is a reliable method to compute quasinormal modes in the small horizon limit with high accuracy.

The effect of resummation on retarded Green's function and greybody factor in $AdS$ black holes

We investigate the retarded Green's function and the greybody factor in asymptotically AdS black holes. Using the connection coefficients of the Heun equation, expressed in terms of the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) free energy of an $SU(2)$ supersymmetric gauge theory with four fundamental hypermultiplets, we derive asymptotic expansions for both the retarded Green's function and the greybody factor in the small horizon limit. Furthermore, we compute the corrections to these asymptotic expansions resulting from the resummation procedure of the instanton part of the NS function.

Scalar quasi-normal modes of accelerating Kerr-Newman-AdS black holes

We study linear scalar perturbations of slowly accelerating Kerr-Newman-anti-de Sitter black holes using the method of isomonodromic deformations. The conformally coupled Klein-Gordon equation separates into two second-order ordinary differential equations with five singularities. Nevertheless, the angular equation can be transformed into a Heun equation, for which we provide an asymptotic expansion for the angular eigenvalues in the small acceleration and rotation limit. In the radial case, we recast the boundary value problem in terms of a set of initial conditions for the isomonodromic tau function of Fuchsian systems with five regular singular points. For the sake of illustration, we compute the quasi-normal modes frequencies.

Absorption cross section in gravity's rainbow from confluent Heun equation

We investigate the scattering of a massless scalar field by a charged non-rotating black hole in the presence of gravity's rainbow. Using the connection coefficients of the confluent Heun equation expressed in terms of the semi-classical confluent conformal blocks and the instanton part of the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) free energy, we obtain an asymptotic expansion for the low-energy absorption cross section.

QNMs of scalar fields on small Reissner-Nordström-AdS$\mathbf{_5}$ black holes

We study the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a charged scalar field on a Reissner-Nordström-anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS$_{5}$) black hole in the small radius limit by using the isomonodromic method. We also derive the low-temperature expansion of the fundamental QNM frequency. Finally, we provide numerical evidence that instabilities appear in the small radius limit for large values of the charge of the scalar field.

Remarks on holographic models of the Kerr-AdS$_{5}$ geometry

We study the low-temperature limit of scalar perturbations of the Kerr-AdS$_{5}$ black-hole for generic rotational parameters. We motivate the study by considering real-time holography of small black hole backgrounds. Using the isomonodromic technique, we show that corrections to the extremal limit can be encoded in the monodromy parameters of the Painlevé V transcendent, whose expansion is given in terms of irregular chiral conformal blocks. After discussing the contribution of the intermediate states to the quasi-normal modes, we perform a numerical analysis of the low-lying frequencies. We find that the fundamental mode is perturbatively stable at low temperatures for small black holes and that excited perturbations are superradiant, as expected from thermodynamical considerations. We close by considering the holographic interpretation of the unstable modes and the decaying process.

On the Kerr-AdS/CFT correspondence

We review the relation between four-dimensional global conformal blocks and field propagation in ${\rm AdS_5}$. Following the standard argument that marginal perturbations should backreact in the geometry, we turn to the study of scalar fields in the generic Kerr-${\rm AdS_5}$ geometry. On one hand, the result for scattering coefficients can be obtained exactly using the isomonodromy technique, giving exact expressions in terms of $c=1$ chiral conformal blocks. On the other hand, one can use the analogy between the scalar field equations to the Level 2 null field Ward identity in two dimensional Liouville field theory to write approximate expressions for the same coefficients in terms of semi-classical chiral Liouville conformal blocks. Surprisingly, the conformal block thus constructed has a well-behaved interpretation in terms of Liouville vertex operators.
