On modular categories with Frobenius-Perron dimension congruent to 2 modulo 4

We contribute to the classification of modular categories $\mathcal{C}$ with $\operatorname{FPdim}(\mathcal{C})\equiv 2 \pmod 4$. We prove that such categories have group of invertibles of even order, and that they factorize as $\mathcal C\cong \widetilde{\mathcal C} \boxtimes \operatorname{sem}$, where $\widetilde{\mathcal C}$ is an odd-dimensional modular category and $\operatorname{sem}$ is the rank 2 pointed modular category. This reduces the classification of these categories to the classification of odd-dimensional modular categories. It follows that modular categories $\mathcal C$ with $\operatorname{FPdim}(\mathcal{C})\equiv 2 \pmod 4$ of rank up to 46 are pointed. More generally, we prove that if $\mathcal C$ is a weakly integral MTC and $p$ is an odd prime dividing the order of the group of invertibles that has multiplicity one in $\operatorname{FPdim}(\mathcal C)$, then we have a factorization $\mathcal C \cong \widetilde{\mathcal C} \boxtimes \operatorname{Vec}_{\mathbb Z_p}^χ,$ for $\widetilde{\mathcal C}$ an MTC with dimension not divisible by $p$.

Algebraic structures in group-theoretical fusion categories

It was shown by Ostrik (2003) and Natale (2017) that a collection of twisted group algebras in a pointed fusion category serve as explicit Morita equivalence class representatives of indecomposable, separable algebras in such categories. We generalize this result by constructing explicit Morita equivalence class representatives of indecomposable, separable algebras in group-theoretical fusion categories. This is achieved by providing the free functor $Φ$ from fusion category to a category of bimodules in the original category with a (Frobenius) monoidal structure. Our algebras of interest are then constructed as the image of twisted group algebras under $Φ$. We also show that twisted group algebras admit the structure of Frobenius algebras in a pointed fusion category, and as a consequence, our algebras are Frobenius algebras in a group-theoretical fusion category. They also enjoy several good algebraic properties.

$G$-crossed braided zesting

For a finite group $G$, a $G$-crossed braided fusion category is $G$-graded fusion category with additional structures, namely a $G$-action and a $G$-braiding. We develop the notion of $G$-crossed braided zesting: an explicit method for constructing new $G$-crossed braided fusion categories from a given one by means of cohomological data associated with the invertible objects in the category and grading group $G$. This is achieved by adapting a similar construction for (braided) fusion categories recently described by the authors. All $G$-crossed braided zestings of a given category $\mathcal{C}$ are $G$-extensions of their trivial component and can be interpreted in terms of the homotopy-based description of Etingof, Nikshych and Ostrik. In particular, we explicitly describe which $G$-extensions correspond to $G$-crossed braided zestings.

Modular tensor categories, subcategories, and Galois orbits

We establish a set of general results to study how the Galois action on modular tensor categories interacts with fusion subcategories. This includes a characterization of fusion subcategories of modular tensor categories which are closed under the Galois action, and a classifcation of modular tensor categories which factor as a product of pointed and transitive categories in terms of pseudoinvertible objects. As an application, we classify modular tensor categories with two Galois orbits of simple objects and a nontrivial grading group.

Extension theory for braided-enriched fusion categories

For a braided fusion category $\mathcal{V}$, a $\mathcal{V}$-fusion category is a fusion category $\mathcal{C}$ equipped with a braided monoidal functor $\mathcal{F}:\mathcal{V} \to Z(\mathcal{C})$. Given a fixed $\mathcal{V}$-fusion category $(\mathcal{C}, \mathcal{F})$ and a fixed $G$-graded extension $\mathcal{C}\subseteq \mathcal{D}$ as an ordinary fusion category, we characterize the enrichments $\widetilde{\mathcal{F}}:\mathcal{V} \to Z(\mathcal{D})$ of $\mathcal{D}$ which are compatible with the enrichment of $\mathcal{C}$. We show that G-crossed extensions of a braided fusion category $\mathcal{C}$ are G-extensions of the canonical enrichment of $\mathcal{C}$ over itself. As an application, we parameterize the set of $G$-crossed braidings on a fixed $G$-graded fusion category in terms of certain subcategories of its center, extending Nikshych's classification of the braidings on a fusion category.

Fusion Rules for $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$ Permutation Gauging

In this note, we examine the gauging of the $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$ permutation action on the tensor square of a modular tensor category. When $\mathcal{C}$ has no nontrivial invertible objects, we provide formulas for the fusion rules of both the extensions, expressed in terms of the fusion rules of $\mathcal{C}$, and the subsequent equivariantizations, which additionally requires the modular data of $\mathcal{C}$. We discuss several examples related to quantum groups at roots of unity.

Completion for braided enriched monoidal categories

Monoidal categories enriched in a braided monoidal category $\mathcal{V}$ are classified by braided oplax monoidal functors from $\mathcal{V}$ to the Drinfeld centers of ordinary monoidal categories. In this article, we prove that this classifying functor is strongly monoidal if and only if the original $\mathcal{V}$-monoidal category is tensored over $\mathcal{V}$. We then define a completion operation which produces a tensored $\mathcal{V}$-monoidal category $\overline{\mathcal{C}}$ from an arbitrary $\mathcal{V}$-monoidal category $\mathcal{C}$, and we determine many equivalent conditions which imply $\mathcal{C}$ and $\overline{\mathcal{C}}$ are $\mathcal{V}$-monoidally equivalent. Since being tensored is a property of the underlying $\mathcal{V}$-category of a $\mathcal{V}$-monoidal category, we begin by studying the equivalence between (tensored) $\mathcal{V}$-categories and oplax (strong) $\mathcal{V}$-module categories respectively. We then define the completion operation for $\mathcal{V}$-categories, and adapt these results to the $\mathcal{V}$-monoidal setting.

On the Classification of Weakly Integral Modular Categories

We classify all modular categories of dimension $4m$, where $m$ is an odd square-free integer, and all ranks $6$ and $7$ weakly integral modular categories. This completes the classification of weakly integral modular categories through rank $7$. Our results imply that all integral modular categories of rank at most $7$ are pointed (that is, every simple object has dimension $1$). All strictly weakly integral (weakly integral but non-integral) modular categories of ranks $6$ and $7$ have dimension $4m$, with $m$ an odd square free integer, so their classification is an application of our main result. The classification of rank $7$ integral modular categories is facilitated by an analysis of two actions on modular categories: the Galois group of the field generated by the entries of the $S$-matrix and the group of isomorphism classes of invertible simple objects. The interplay of these two actions is of independent interest, and we derive some valuable arithmetic consequences from their actions.
