Generative artificial intelligence for reconstructing neutron-star matter

Neutron-star cores hold the only known matter in the universe that is simultaneously cold and strongly interacting, compressed beyond nuclear density into a state of unknown composition. The equation of state links stellar masses, radii and tidal deformabilities to this regime, but recovering this key quantity from sparse observations is an ill-posed inverse problem. Existing analyses bury a prior in a fixed functional form, unevenly weighting admissible solutions and biasing the result. We reconstruct the equation of state with a denoising diffusion model that keeps prior, physics and data separate: it learns an inspectable, physically motivated prior anchored to first-principles nuclear theory, while perturbative-QCD and astrophysical constraints are imposed exactly. Future measurements therefore will update the posterior by reweighting alone, without retraining or resampling. The inferred radius of 12.6 km and tidal deformability of 469 at 1.4 solar masses reproduce Gaussian-process and heavy-ion-informed inferences despite a far broader prior. We find near-conformal but still stiff matter in the heaviest stars, consistent with a gradual hadron-quark crossover and disfavouring a strong first-order phase transition. More broadly, coupling a learned prior to exactly enforced physics establishes a template for ill-posed inverse problems where theory and data constrain different regions.

Reconstruction of Gravitational Form Factors using Generative Machine Learning

We develop a generative framework based on denoising diffusion for the model-independent reconstruction of hadronic form factors from sparse and noisy data. The generative prior is built from a large ensemble of synthetic curves drawn from ten distinct functional classes rooted in different theoretical approaches to hadron structure. Applied to the proton gravitational form factors $A(t)$, $J(t)$, and $D(t)$, the framework yields non-parametric reconstructions consistent with lattice QCD across the full kinematic range $0\le -t\le 2~\mathrm{GeV}^{2}$, remaining robust even when only one or two conditioning points are retained. The densely sampled output enables a direct extraction of the chiral low-energy constants $c_8=-4.6\pm 0.8~\mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$ and $c_9=-0.61\pm 0.19~\mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$. Using these values at the physical pion mass, we obtain $D(0)=-4.3\pm 0.8$ for the nucleon $D$-term.

Forces inside the nucleon on the light front from 3D Breit frame force distributions: Abel tomography case

We derive simple relations which express 2D light front force distributions in terms of 3D Breit frame pressure and shear force distributions. Mathematically the relations correspond to invertible Abel transformation and they establish one-to-one mathematical equivalence of 3D Breit frame force distributions and 2D light front ones. Any knowledge (model calculation, experimental measurement, etc.) about pressure and shear force distributions in Breit frame can be unambiguously transformed into light front force distributions with the help of Abel transformation. It is important that the transformation ensures 2D stability conditions if the 3D stability conditions are satisfied. As an illustration of how the relations work, we calculated the light front force distributions for a large nucleus as a liquid drop, and for large $N_c$ nucleon as a chiral soliton.

Quadrupole pressure and shear forces inside baryons in the large $N_c$ limit

We derive number of relations between quadrupole energy, elastic pressure, and shear force distributions in baryons using the large $N_c$ picture of baryons as chiral solitons. The obtained large $N_c$ relations are independent of particular dynamics and should hold in any picture in which the baryon is the chiral soliton. One of remarkable qualitative predictions of the soliton picture is the nullification of the tangential forces acting on the radial area element for any tensor polarisation of the baryon. The derived relations provide a powerful tool to check the hypothesis that the baryons are chiral solitons, say using lattice QCD.

On tetraquarks with hidden charm and strangeness as phi-psi(2S) hadrocharmonium

In the hadrocharmonium picture a $\bar cc$ state and a light hadron form a bound state. The effective interaction is described in terms of the chromoelectric polarizability of the $\bar cc$ state and energy-momentum-tensor densities of the light hadron. This picture is justified in the heavy quark limit, and may successfully account for a hidden-charm pentaquark state recently observed by LHCb. In this work we extend the formalism to the description of hidden-charm tetraquarks, and address the question of whether the resonant states observed by LHCb in the $J/ψ$-$ϕ$ spectrum can be described as hadrocharmonia. This is a non-trivial question because nothing is known about the $ϕ$ meson energy-momentum-tensor densities. With rather general assumptions about energy-momentum-tensor densities in the $ϕ$-meson we show that a $ψ(2S)$-$ϕ$ bound state can exist, and obtain a characteristic relation between its mass and width. We show that the tetraquark $X(4274)$ observed by LHCb in $J/ψ$-$ϕ$ spectrum is a good candidate for a hadrocharmonium. We make predictions which will allow testing this picture. Our method can be generalized to identify other potential hadrocharmonia.
