On the Virasoro Crossing Kernels at Rational Central Charge

We report novel analytic results for the Virasoro modular and fusion kernels relevant to 2d conformal field theories (CFTs), 3d topological field theories (TQFTs), and the representation theory of certain quantum groups. For all rational values of the parameter $b^2\in\mathbb{Q}^{\times}$ -- corresponding in 2d CFT to all rational central charge values in the domain $(-\infty,1]\cup[25,\infty)$ -- we establish two main results. First, in the domain $c\in\mathbb{Q}_{[25,\infty)}$ we show that the modular and fusion kernels derived by Teschner and Teschner-Vartanov respectively can be expressed as a linear combination of two functions, which (i) are themselves admissible crossing kernels, (ii) have square-root branch point singularities in the Liouville momenta, (iii) are not reflection-symmetric in the Liouville momenta. These features illustrate that the space of solutions to the basic shift relations determining these kernels is broader than previously assumed. Second, in the domain $c\in\mathbb{Q}_{(-\infty,1]}$ we derive for the first time the physical modular and fusion kernels for generic values of the Liouville momenta. These can again be written as a linear combination of two other admissible kernels but overall, and unlike the Teschner and Teschner-Vartanov solutions for $c\geq 25$, they possess square-root branch point singularities. As a corollary, we demonstrate that timelike Liouville theory at $c\in\mathbb{Q}_{(-\infty,1]}$ is crossing symmetric and modular covariant. Surprisingly, the crossing kernels at any $b^2\in\mathbb{Q}^{\times}$ behave as if they were semiclassical and one-loop exact, and we discuss the interpretation of this fact in the context of the 2d conformal bootstrap and the 3d TQFT that captures pure 3d gravity with negative cosmological constant.

Fused Specht Polynomials and $c=1$ Degenerate Conformal Blocks

We introduce a class of polynomials that we call fused Specht polynomials and use them to characterize irreducible representations of the fused Hecke algebra with parameter $q=-1$ in the space of polynomials. We apply the fused Specht polynomials to construct a basis for a space of holomorphic (chiral) conformal blocks with central charge $c=1$ which are degenerate at each point. In conformal field theory, this corresponds to all primary fields having conformal weight in the Kac table. The associated correlation functions are expected to give rise to conformally invariant boundary conditions for the Gaussian free field, which has also been verified in special cases.

Planar UST Branches and $c=-2$ Degenerate Boundary Correlations

We provide a conformal field theory (CFT) description of the probabilistic model of boundary effects in the wired uniform spanning tree (UST) and its algebraic content, concerning the entire first row of the Kac table with central charge $c=-2$. Namely, we prove that all boundary-to-boundary connection probabilities for (potentially fused) branches in the wired UST converge in the scaling limit to explicit CFT quantities, expressed in terms of determinants, which can also be viewed as conformal blocks of degenerate primary fields in a boundary CFT with central charge $c=-2$. Moreover, we verify that the Belavin-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov (BPZ) PDEs (i.e., Virasoro degeneracies) of arbitrary orders hold, and we also reveal an underlying valenced Temperley-Lieb algebra action on the space of boundary correlation functions of primary fields in this model. To prove these results, we combine probabilistic techniques with representation theory.

Semiclassical limit of a non-polynomial $q$-Askey scheme

We prove a semiclassical asymptotic formula for the two elements $\mathcal M$ and $\mathcal Q$ lying at the bottom of the recently constructed non-polynomial hyperbolic $q$-Askey scheme. We also prove that the corresponding exponent is a generating function of the canonical transformation between pairs of Darboux coordinates on the monodromy manifold of the Painlev\'e I and $\textrm{III}_3$ equations, respectively. Such pairs of coordinates characterize the asymptotics of the tau function of the corresponding Painlev\'e equation. We conjecture that the other members of the non-polynomial hyperbolic $q$-Askey scheme yield generating functions associated to the other Painlev\'e equations in the semiclassical limit.

On the Virasoro fusion and modular kernels at any irrational central charge

We propose a series representation for the Virasoro fusion and modular kernels at any irrational central charge. Two distinct, yet closely related formulas are needed for the cases $c\in \mathbb C \backslash (-\infty,1]$ and $c <1$. Our proposal for $c <1$ agrees numerically with the fusion transformation of the four-point spherical conformal blocks, whereas our proposal for $c\in \mathbb C \backslash (-\infty,1]$ agrees numerically with Ponsot and Teschner's integral formula for the fusion kernel. The case of the modular kernel is studied as a special case of the fusion kernel.

Degenerate conformal blocks for the $W_3$ algebra at c=2 and connection probabilities in the triple dimer model

We study a homogeneous system of $d+8$ linear partial differential equations (PDEs) in $d$ variables arising from two-dimensional Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) with a $W_3$-symmetry algebra. In the CFT context, $d$ PDEs are third-order and correspond to the null-state equations, whereas the remaining 8 PDEs (five being second-order and three being first-order) correspond to the $W_3$ global Ward identities. In the case of central charge $c=2$, we construct a subspace of the space of all solutions which grow no faster than a power law. We call this subspace the space of $W_3$ conformal blocks, and we provide a basis expressed in terms of Specht polynomials associated with column-strict, rectangular Young tableaux with three columns. The dimension of this space is a Kostka number which coincides with CFT predictions, hence we conjecture that it exhausts the space of all solutions having a power law bound. Moreover, we prove that the space of $W_3$ conformal blocks is an irreducible representation of a certain diagram algebra defined from $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ webs that we call Kuperberg algebra. Finally, we prove a formula relating the $W_3$ conformal blocks at $c=2$ we constructed to Kenyon and Shi's scaling limits of connection probabilities in the triple dimer model. For more general central charges, we expect that $W_3$ conformal blocks are related to scaling limits of probabilities in lattice models based on $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ webs.

Non-polynomial $q$-Askey scheme: integral representations, eigenfunction properties, and polynomial limits

We construct a non-polynomial generalization of the $q$-Askey scheme. Whereas the elements of the $q$-Askey scheme are given by $q$-hypergeometric series, the elements of the non-polynomial scheme are given by contour integrals, whose integrands are built from Ruijsenaars' hyperbolic gamma function. Alternatively, the integrands can be expressed in terms of Faddeev's quantum dilogarithm, Woronowicz's quantum exponential, or Kurokawa's double sine function. We present the basic properties of all the elements of the scheme, including their integral representations, joint eigenfunction properties, and polynomial limits.

The family of confluent Virasoro fusion kernels and a non-polynomial $q$-Askey scheme

We study the recently introduced family of confluent Virasoro fusion kernels $\mathcal{C}_k(b,\boldsymbolθ,σ_s,ν)$. We study their eigenfunction properties and show that they can be viewed as non-polynomial generalizations of both the continuous dual $q$-Hahn and the big $q$-Jacobi polynomials. More precisely, we prove that: (i) $\mathcal{C}_k$ is a joint eigenfunction of four different difference operators for any positive integer $k$, (ii) $\mathcal{C}_k$ degenerates to the continuous dual $q$-Hahn polynomials when $ν$ is suitably discretized, and (iii) $\mathcal{C}_k$ degenerates to the big $q$-Jacobi polynomials when $σ_s$ is suitably discretized. These observations lead us to propose the existence of a non-polynomial generalization of the $q$-Askey scheme. The top member of this non-polynomial scheme is the Virasoro fusion kernel (or, equivalently, Ruijsenaars' hypergeometric function), and its first confluence is given by the $\mathcal{C}_k$.

The Virasoro fusion kernel and Ruijsenaars' hypergeometric function

We show that the Virasoro fusion kernel is equal to Ruijsenaars' hypergeometric function up to normalization. More precisely, we prove that the Virasoro fusion kernel is a joint eigenfunction of four difference operators. We find a renormalized version of this kernel for which the four difference operators are mapped to four versions of the quantum relativistic hyperbolic Calogero-Moser Hamiltonian tied with the root system $BC_1$. We consequently prove that the renormalized Virasoro fusion kernel and the corresponding quantum eigenfunction, the (renormalized) Ruijsenaars hypergeometric function, are equal.

Confluent Conformal Blocks of the Second Kind

We construct confluent conformal blocks of the second kind of the Virasoro algebra. We also construct the Stokes transformations which map such blocks in one Stokes sector to another. In the BPZ limit, we verify explicitly that the constructed blocks and the associated Stokes transformations reduce to solutions of the confluent BPZ equation and its Stokes matrices, respectively. Both the confluent conformal blocks and the Stokes transformations are constructed by taking suitable confluent limits of the crossing transformations of the four-point Virasoro conformal blocks.
