Baryon isocurvature constraints on the primordial hypermagnetic fields

It has been pointed out that hypermagnetic helicity decay at the electroweak symmetry breaking may have produced the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe through the chiral anomaly in the standard model of particle physics. Although fully helical magnetic field that can adequately produce the observed baryon asymmetry is not strong enough to explain the origin of the intergalactic magnetic field inferred by the Fermi satellite, the mixture of helical and nonhelical primordial magnetic fields may explain both baryogenesis and the intergalactic magnetic fields simultaneously. We first show that such a scenario is ruled out by the constraint on the amplitude of baryon isocurvature perturbations produced by the primordial magnetic fields to avoid overproduction of deuterium at the big bang nucleosynthesis. Then we show that any attempt to explain the origin of intergalactic magnetic field by primordial magnetogenesis before the electroweak symmetry breaking does not work due to the above constraint irrespective of the helicity and baryogenesis mechanism.

Current status of space gravitational wave antenna DECIGO and B-DECIGO

Deci-hertz Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (DECIGO) is the future Japanese space mission with a frequency band of 0.1 Hz to 10 Hz. DECIGO aims at the detection of primordial gravitational waves, which could be produced during the inflationary period right after the birth of the universe. There are many other scientific objectives of DECIGO, including the direct measurement of the acceleration of the expansion of the universe, and reliable and accurate predictions of the timing and locations of neutron star/black hole binary coalescences. DECIGO consists of four clusters of observatories placed in the heliocentric orbit. Each cluster consists of three spacecraft, which form three Fabry-Perot Michelson interferometers with an arm length of 1,000 km. Three clusters of DECIGO will be placed far from each other, and the fourth cluster will be placed in the same position as one of the three clusters to obtain the correlation signals for the detection of the primordial gravitational waves. We plan to launch B-DECIGO, which is a scientific pathfinder of DECIGO, before DECIGO in the 2030s to demonstrate the technologies required for DECIGO, as well as to obtain fruitful scientific results to further expand the multi-messenger astronomy.

On catalyzed vacuum decay around a radiating black hole and the crisis of the electroweak vacuum

False vacuum decay is a key feature in quantum field theories and exhibits a distinct signature in the early Universe cosmology. It has recently been suggested that the false vacuum decay is catalyzed by a black hole (BH), which might cause the catastrophe of the Standard Model Higgs vacuum if primordial BHs are formed in the early Universe. We investigate vacuum phase transition of a scalar field around a radiating BH with taking into account the effect of Hawking radiation. We find that the vacuum decay rate slightly decreases in the presence of the thermal effect since the scalar potential is stabilized near the horizon. However, the stabilization effect becomes weak at the points sufficiently far from the horizon. Consequently, we find that the decay rate is not significantly changed unless the effective coupling constant of the scalar field to the radiation is extremely large. This implies that the change of the potential from the Hawking radiation does not help prevent the Standard Model Higgs vacuum decay catalyzed by a BH.

Window function dependence of the novel mass function of primordial black holes

We investigate the ambiguity of the novel mass function of primordial black holes, which has succeeded in identifying the black hole mass in a given configuration of fluctuations, due to the choice of window function of smoothed density fluctuations. We find that while the window function dependence of the exponential factor in the novel mass function is the same as the one in the conventional mass function around the top-hat scale, the dependences are different on other scales, which leads to the narrower mass function in the novel formulation for some window functions.

On the violent preheating in the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ inflationary model

It has been argued that the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ model acts as the UV extension of the Higgs inflation, pushing up its cut-off scale in the vacuum close up to the Planck scale. In this letter, we study the inflaton oscillation stage after inflation, focusing on the effective mass of the phase direction of the Higgs field, which can cause a violent preheating process. We find that the "spikes" in the effective mass of the phase direction observed in the Higgs inflation still appear in the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ model. While the spikes appear above the cut-off scale in the Higgs-only case, they appear below the cut-off scale when the model is extended with $R^2$ term though reheating cannot be completed in the violent particle production regime since the spikes get milder.

Gravitational leptogenesis with kination and gravitational reheating

We revisit the gravitational leptogenesis scenario in which the inflaton is coupled to gravity by the Chern-Simons term and the lepton asymmetry is generated through the gravitational anomaly in the lepton number current during inflation. We constrain the possible model parameter space by requiring the absence of ghost modes below the Planck scale, which would suggest the breakdown of the effective theory, and evaluate the net baryon asymmetry for various reheating processes. We find that the mechanism with these requirements is insufficient to explain the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe for standard reheating scenarios. We show that, however, with the kination scenario realized in e.g. the k- and G-inflation models, a sufficient baryon asymmetry can be generated within a feasible range of the model parameters.

Horndeski model in nonlinearly realized supergravity

We construct the Horndeski Lagrangian within non-linearly realized supergravity. We will show that the bosonic part of the Horndeski Lagrangian can be realized. Gravitino naturally couples to Horndeski sector in a super-covariant way. Such gravitino couplings are also free from ghosts.

Dark matter and baryon-number generation in quintessential inflation via hierarchical right-handed neutrinos

Incorporating three generations of right-handed Majorana neutrinos to quintessential inflation, we construct a model which simultaneously explains inflation, dark energy, dark matter and baryogenesis. These neutrinos have hierarchical masses $M_3 \sim 10^{13}$GeV, $M_2 \sim 10^{11}$GeV, $M_1 \sim 10$keV and are produced by gravitational particle production in the kination regime after inflation. The heaviest, the intermediate, and the lightest account for reheating, CP violation of leptogenesis, and dark matter, respectively. This model can be tested in various ways with forthcoming observations.

Gravitational particle creation for dark matter and reheating

The purely gravitational dark matter (PGDM) which interacts with the standard model particles only by gravitational interaction has recently been discussed. Due to its feeble interaction, PGDM may be produced mainly by the gravitational particle creation, which plays an important role in the reheating after kinetically driven inflation and some potential-driven inflation without subsequent inflaton oscillating phase. Therefore, we consider the possibility of the gravitational reheating model which can also explain the present PGDM density at the same time. We consider a model where two massive scalar fields are incorporated into the standard model besides the inflation sector. We show that the gravitational particle creation prevails over the thermal creation --- the freeze-in process --- and it can actually explain the reheating and the present abundance of dark matter if one of the scalar particles is as heavy as the Hubble parameter during inflation $\sim10^{13}$ GeV and finally decays into radiation via sufficiently weak coupling, and the other is a stable PGDM with its mass of the order of $10^3$ GeV.

Gravitational reheating through conformally coupled superheavy scalar particles

We calculate the number density and the energy density of a massive scalar particle conformally coupled to gravity produced by gravitational particle creation in the case the kination stage follows inflation. In this model, mode functions are derived in terms of exact or numerical solutions of the equation of motion without using the adiabatic approximation. We define the adiabatic vacuum in each stage and calculate the produced number density and the energy density. The resultant power spectra show that even the superheavy particle which is as heavy as or much heavier than the Hubble scale during inflation can be produced abundantly if the transition time scale from inflation to the kination stage is smaller than the inverse of the mass of the scalar field. We also give simple forms of the reheating temperature for two cases, one that the produced scalar particles decay instantly and the other that they decay when their energy density exceeds that of inflaton.

Reheating through the Higgs amplified by spinodal instabilities and gravitational creation of gravitons

It is shown that a positive non-minimal coupling of the Higgs field to gravity can solve the two problems in inflation models in which postinflationary universe is dominated by an energy with stiff equation of state such as a kination, namely, overproduction of gravitons in gravitational reheating scenario, and overproduction of curvature perturbation from Higgs condensation. Furthermore, we argue that the non-minimal coupling parameter can be constrained more stringently with the progress in observations of large-scale structure and cosmic microwave background.

Micro black holes formed in the early Universe and their cosmological implications

High energy collisions of particles may have created tiny black holes in the early Universe, which might leave stable remnants instead of fully evaporating as a result of Hawking radiation. If the reheating temperature was sufficiently close to the fundamental gravity scale, which can be different from the usual Planck scale depending of the presence and properties of spatial extra-dimensions, the formation rate could have been sufficiently high and hence such remnants could account for the entire cold dark matter of the Universe.

Creation of an inflationary universe out of a black hole

We discuss a two-step mechanism to create a new inflationary domain beyond a wormhole throat which is created by a phase transition around an evaporating black hole. The first step is creation of a false vacuum bubble with a thin-wall boundary by the thermal effects of Hawking radiation. Then this wall induces a quantum tunneling to create a wormhole-like configuration. As the space beyond the wormhole throat can expand exponentially, being filled with false vacuum energy, this may be interpreted as creation of another inflationary universe in the final stage of the black hole evaporation.

Long-term dynamics of cosmological axion strings

We present results of new field-theoretic simulation of cosmological axion strings, which are eight times longer than previous ones. We have upgraded our simulation of physical strings in Hiramatsu et al. (2011) in terms of the number of grids as well as the suite of analysis methods. These improvements enable us to monitor a variety of quantities characterizing the dynamics of the physical string network for the longest term ever. Our extended simulations have revealed that global strings do not evolve according to the scaling solution but its scaling parameter, or the number of long strings per horizon, increases logarithmically in time. In addition, we have also found that the scaling parameter shows nontrivial dependence on the breaking scale of the Peccei-Quinn symmetry.

Self-anisotropizing inflationary universe in Horndeski theory and beyond

As opposed to Wald's cosmic no-hair theorem in general relativity, it is shown that the Horndeski theory (and its generalization) admits anisotropic inflationary attractors if the Lagrangian depends cubically on the second derivatives of the scalar field. We dub such a solution as a self-anisotropizing inflationary universe because anisotropic inflation can occur without introducing any anisotropic matter fields such as a vector field. As a concrete example of self-anisotropization we present the dynamics of a Bianchi type-I universe in the Horndeski theory.

Loop corrections to primordial fluctuations from inflationary phase transitions

We investigate loop corrections to the primordial fluctuations in the single-field inflationary paradigm from spectator fields that experience a smooth transition of their vacuum expectation values. We show that when the phase transition involves a classical evolution effectively driven by a negative mass term from the potential, important corrections to the curvature perturbation can be generated by field perturbations that are frozen outside the horizon by the time of the phase transition, yet the correction to tensor perturbation is naturally suppressed by the spatial derivative couplings between spectator fields and graviton. At one-loop level, the dominant channel for the production of primordial fluctuations comes from a pair-scattering of free spectator fields that decay into the curvature perturbations, and this decay process is only sensitive to field masses comparable to the Hubble scale of inflation.

Hybrid Quasi-Single Field Inflation

The decay of massive particles during inflation generates characteristic signals in the squeezed limit of the primordial bispectrum. These signals are in particular distinctive in the regime of the quasi-single field inflation, where particles are oscillating with masses comparable to the Hubble scale. We apply the investigation to a class of scalar particles that experience a so-called waterfall phase transition in the isocurvature direction driven by the symmetry-breaking mechanism based on the hybrid inflation scenario. With a time-varying mass, a novel shape of oscillatory bispectrum is presented as the signature of a waterfall phase transition during inflation.
