Non-Hermiticity of an anomalous superradiant phase

We counterintuitively present a Hermitian squeezing-Dicke model as a minimal setting for non-Hermitian physics in many-body light-matter systems. It enables the realization of a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian of interest using a Hermitian quadratic bosonic system. Unlike previous dissipation-driven non-Hermitian mechanisms, effective parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry arises purely from squeezing and exchanges gainy and lossy eigenmodes. We identify non-Hermiticity of an anomalous superradiant phase for strong spins squeezing, exhibiting spontaneous breaking of the unique $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry beyond $Z_2$ symmetries. Such exotic phase exhibits a complex excitation spectrum and undergoes a dynamical phase transition to a conventional superradiant phase at an exceptional point. An artificial magnetic field combined with the broken Hermiticity yields nonreciprocal dynamics with striking quantum amplification, exhibiting unidirectional enhanced transmission. Our Hermitian light-matter system offers an alternative pathway to exotic non-Hermitian physics and nonreciprocal quantum amplification.

Dissipative phase transitions of the Dicke-Ising model

The dissipative phase transitions in the open transverse and longitudinal Dicke-Ising model (DIM), which incorporates nearest-neighbor Ising-type spin interactions into the Dicke framework, are investigated within a mean-field approach and further validated by detailed stability analysis. While the dissipative phase diagram of the transverse DIM is only slightly shifted upward compared with its ground-state counterpart, dissipation in the longitudinal DIM stabilizes bistable nonequilibrium steady states and induces first-order phase transitions that are absent in the ground-state phase diagram. This bistable phase is characterized by the coexistence of superradiant and antiferromagnetic orders, and it converts a ground-state triple point into a tetracritical point, at which the boundaries of the first- and second-order transitions intersect. Our results reveal that the interplay among spin interactions, light-matter coupling, and dissipation supports a diverse set of nonequilibrium phase transitions and provides broad tunability of the phase diagram. These findings offer a theoretical foundation for exploring nonequilibrium physics in realistic open solid-state quantum systems.

Emergence of Rich Dissipative Phases in the Anisotropic Quantum Rabi Model Driven by the $\mathbf{A}^{2}$ Term

The open quantum Rabi model is studied in this work, with the explicit $\mathbf{A}^{2}$ term incorporated. It is shown that anisotropy provides a generic and robust mechanism for establishing a genuine platform for observing dissipative phase transitions. The inclusion of the $\mathbf{A}^{2}$ term yields a significantly richer and asymmetric steady-state phase diagram, consisting of normal, superradiant, and bistable phases that intersect at tricritical points, while isolated bistable phases also emerge and the number of tricritical points is reduced. Notably, it is near the intersection of the two critical-line branches enclosing the superradiant phases, rather than at the tricritical points, that the $\mathbf{A}^{2}$ term fundamentally alters the scaling of photon-number fluctuations. Given the inherent role of the $\mathbf{A}^{2}$ term in light-matter interactions, our findings open a realistic route toward the experimental investigation and dynamical control of nonequilibrium critical phenomena in practical open quantum platforms.
