We prove that magnetic geodesics in the $3$-dimensional Heisenberg group derived from the canonical contact structure are homogeneous.
We give a classification of homogeneous Riemannian structures on (non locally symmetric) $3$-dimensional Lie groups equipped with left invariant Riemannian metrics. This work together with classifications due to previous works yields a complete classification of all the homogeneous Riemannian structures on homogeneous Riemannian $3$-spaces. Two applications of the classification to contact Riemannian geometry and CR geometry are also given.
We give explicit parametrizations for all the homogeneous contact Riemannian structures on $3$-dimensional Sasakian space forms.
The methods of Information geometry have been glowing up to develop various subjects of theoretical physics, including quantum information systems. The present article has two purposes. The first one is to develop general theory of homogeneous statistical manifolds. In particular we construct explicit examples of homogeneous statistical manifolds of low dimension. The second purpose is to classify $3$-dimensional Lie groups admitting non-trivial conjugate symmetric left invariant statistical structure.
We study the homogeneity of contact magnetic trajectories in naturally reductive Berger spheres. We prove that every contact magnetic trajectory is a product of a homogeneous geodesic and a charged Reeb flow.
We study hypersurfaces of the four-dimensional Thurston geometry $\text{Sol}^4_0$, which is a Riemannian homogeneous space and a solvable Lie group. In particular, we give a full classification of hypersurfaces whose second fundamental form is a Codazzi tensor, including totally geodesic hypersurfaces and hypersurfaces with parallel second fundamental form, and of totally umbilical hypersurfaces of $\text{Sol}^4_0$. We also give a closed expression for the Riemann curvature tensor of $\text{Sol}^4_0$, using two integrable complex structures.
We prove the homogeneity of contact magnetic curves in the real special linear group of degree $2$. Every contact magnetic trajectory is a product of a homogeneous geodesic and a charged Reeb flow.
We show that a unit vector field on an oriented Riemannian manifold is a critical point of the Landau Hall functional if and only if it is a critical point of the Dirichlet energy functional. Therefore, we provide a characterization for a unit vector field to be a magnetic map into its unit tangent sphere bundle. Then, we classify all magnetic left invariant unit vector fields on $3$-dimensional Lie groups.
We study symmetric minimal surfaces in the three-dimensional Heisenberg group $\mathrm{Nil}_3$ using the generalized Weierstrass type representation, the so-called loop group method. In particular, we will discuss how to construct minimal surfaces in $\mathrm{Nil}_3$ with non-trivial topology. Moreover, we will classify equivariant minimal surfaces given by one-parameter subgroups of the isometry group $\mathrm{Iso}_{\circ}(\mathrm{Nil}_3)$ of $\mathrm{Nil}_3$.
In this paper, we consider a class of plane curves called log-aesthetic curves and their generalization which are used in computer aided geometric design. We consider these curves in the framework of the similarity geometry and characterize them as invariant curves under the integrable flow on plane curves which is governed by the Burgers equation. We propose a variational principle for these curves, leading to the stationary Burgers equation as the Euler-Lagrange equation. As an application of the formulation developed here, we propose a discretization of these curves and the associated variational principle which preserves the underlying integrable structure. We finally present algorithms for the generation of discrete log-aesthetic curves for given ${\rm G}^1$ data based on the similarity geometry. Our method is able to generate $S$-shaped discrete curves with an inflection as well as $C$-shaped curves according to the boundary condition. The resulting discrete curves are regarded as self-adaptive discretization and thus high-quality even with a small number of points.
Demoulin surfaces in real projective $3$-space are investigated. Our result enable us to establish a generalized Weierstrass type representation for definite Demoulin surfaces by virtue of primitive maps into a certain semi-Riemannian $6$-symmetric space.
We show that the statistical manifold of normal distributions is homogeneous. In particular, it admits a $2$-dimensional solvable Lie group structure. In addition, we give a geometric characterization of the Amari-Chentsov $α$-connections on the Lie group.
The local induction equation, or the binormal flow on space curves is a well-known model of deformation of space curves as it describes the dynamics of vortex filaments, and the complex curvature is governed by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. In this paper, we present its discrete analogue, namely, a model of deformation of discrete space curves by the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We also present explicit formulas for both smooth and discrete curves in terms of $τ$ functions of the two-component KP hierarchy.
We formulate an isoperimetric deformation of curves on the Minkowski plane, which is governed by the defocusing mKdV equation. Two classes of exact solutions to the defocusing mKdV equation are also presented in terms of the $τ$ functions. By using one of these classes, we construct an explicit formula for the corresponding motion of curves on the Minkowski plane even though those solutions have singular points. Another class give regular solutions to the defocusing mKdV equation. Some pictures illustrating typical dynamics of the curves are presented.
In this paper we consider the log-aesthetic curves and their generalization which are used in CAGD. We consider those curves under similarity geometry and characterize them as stationary integrable flow on plane curves which is governed by the Burgers equation. We propose a variational formulation of those curves whose Euler-Lagrange equation yields the stationary Burgers equation. Our result suggests that the log-aesthetic curves and their generalization can be regarded as the similarity geometric analogue of Euler's elasticae.
The local induction equation, or the binormal flow on space curves is a well-known model of deformation of space curves as it describes the dynamics of vortex filaments, and the complex curvature is governed by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS). In this paper, we present its discrete analogue, namely, a model of deformation of discrete space curves by the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation (dNLS). We also present explicit formulas for both NLS and dNLS flows in terms of the $τ$ function of the 2-component KP hierarchy.
In hyperbolic 3-space $\mathbb{H}^3$ surfaces of constant mean curvature $H$ come in three types, corresponding to the cases $0 \leq H < 1$, $H = 1$, $H > 1$. Via the Lawson correspondence the latter two cases correspond to constant mean curvature surfaces in Euclidean 3-space $\mathbb{E}^3$ with H=0 and $H \neq 0$, respectively. These surface classes have been investigated intensively in the literature. For the case $0 \leq H < 1$ there is no Lawson correspondence in Euclidean space and there are relatively few publications. Examples have been difficult to construct. In this paper we present a generalized Weierstraß type representation for surfaces of constant mean curvature in $\mathbb{H}^3$ with particular emphasis on the case of mean curvature $0\leq H < 1$. In particular, the generalized Weierstraß type representation presented in this paper enables us to construct simultaneously minimal surfaces (H=0) and non-minimal constant mean curvature surfaces ($0<H<1$).
In this note we present a short alternative proof for the Bernstein problem in the three-dimensional Heisenberg group ${\rm Nil}_3$ by using the loop group technique.
