Sub-self-similar sets with distinct Hausdorff and Box dimensions

We construct an IFS consisting of three contracting similarities on $\mathbb{R}^{9}$ with a countable compact sub-self-similar set $E$ with distinct Hausdorff and lower box dimensions. This provides a concrete counterexample to the question raised by Falconer concerning the equality of Hausdorff and box dimensions for sub-self-similar sets without the open set condition.

On the minimal generating weighted IFS of self-similar measure

We concern the structure of generating weighted IFSs of a self-similar measure on the real line. We provide various sufficient conditions for the existence of a minimal generating weighted IFS of a self-similar measure on the real line. Under the homogeneity, we show that `most' self-similar measures on the real line have a minimal generating weighted IFS, without separation conditions. The ingredients of our proofs are based on results of exponential polynomials (factorization theory and the distribution of zeros), logarithmic commensurability (with a dynamical system argument), and results on the structure of generating IFSs of a self-similar sets.

A positive answer to a symmetry conjecture on homogeneous IFS

If two homogeneous IFSs satisfying the OSC with opposite common contraction factors share the same attractor on the real line, we show that this attractor is symmetric. This answers a question of Feng and Wang [Adv. Math. 222 (2009), 1964-1981].

Seaweed-7B: Cost-Effective Training of Video Generation Foundation Model

This technical report presents a cost-efficient strategy for training a video generation foundation model. We present a mid-sized research model with approximately 7 billion parameters (7B) called Seaweed-7B trained from scratch using 665,000 H100 GPU hours. Despite being trained with moderate computational resources, Seaweed-7B demonstrates highly competitive performance compared to contemporary video generation models of much larger size. Design choices are especially crucial in a resource-constrained setting. This technical report highlights the key design decisions that enhance the performance of the medium-sized diffusion model. Empirically, we make two observations: (1) Seaweed-7B achieves performance comparable to, or even surpasses, larger models trained on substantially greater GPU resources, and (2) our model, which exhibits strong generalization ability, can be effectively adapted across a wide range of downstream applications either by lightweight fine-tuning or continue training. UI-TARS: Pioneering Automated GUI Interaction with Native Agents

This paper introduces UI-TARS, a native GUI agent model that solely perceives the screenshots as input and performs human-like interactions (e.g., keyboard and mouse operations). Unlike prevailing agent frameworks that depend on heavily wrapped commercial models (e.g., GPT-4o) with expert-crafted prompts and workflows, UI-TARS is an end-to-end model that outperforms these sophisticated frameworks. Experiments demonstrate its superior performance: UI-TARS achieves SOTA performance in 10+ GUI agent benchmarks evaluating perception, grounding, and GUI task execution. Notably, in the OSWorld benchmark, UI-TARS achieves scores of 24.6 with 50 steps and 22.7 with 15 steps, outperforming Claude (22.0 and 14.9 respectively). In AndroidWorld, UI-TARS achieves 46.6, surpassing GPT-4o (34.5). UI-TARS incorporates several key innovations: (1) Enhanced Perception: leveraging a large-scale dataset of GUI screenshots for context-aware understanding of UI elements and precise captioning; (2) Unified Action Modeling, which standardizes actions into a unified space across platforms and achieves precise grounding and interaction through large-scale action traces; (3) System-2 Reasoning, which incorporates deliberate reasoning into multi-step decision making, involving multiple reasoning patterns such as task decomposition, reflection thinking, milestone recognition, etc. (4) Iterative Training with Reflective Online Traces, which addresses the data bottleneck by automatically collecting, filtering, and reflectively refining new interaction traces on hundreds of virtual machines. Through iterative training and reflection tuning, UI-TARS continuously learns from its mistakes and adapts to unforeseen situations with minimal human intervention. We also analyze the evolution path of GUI agents to guide the further development of this domain.

Algebraic dependence number and cardinality of generating iterated function systems

For a dust-like self-similar set (generated by IFSs with the strong separation condition), Elekes, Keleti and M\'{a}th\'{e} found an invariant, called `algebraic dependence number', by considering its generating IFSs and isometry invariant self-similar measures. We find an intrinsic quantitative characterisation of this number: it is the dimension over $\mathbb{Q}$ of the vector space generated by the logarithms of all the common ratios of infinite geometric sequences in the gap length set, minus 1. With this concept, we present a lower bound on the cardinality of generating IFS (with or without separation conditions) in terms of the gap lengths of a dust-like set. We also establish analogous result for dust-like graph-directed attractors on complete metric spaces. This is a new application of the ratio analysis method and the gap sequence.

ByteCheckpoint: A Unified Checkpointing System for Large Foundation Model Development

Checkpointing to preserve training states is crucial during the development of Large Foundation Models (LFMs), for training resumption upon various failures or changes in GPU resources and parallelism configurations. In addition, saved checkpoints are dispatched to evaluation tasks or transferred across different training stages (e.g., from pre-training to post-training). All these scenarios require resharding distributed checkpoints from one parallelism to another. In production environments, different LFMs are trained with various frameworks and storage backends, depending on model sizes and training scales. A high-performance checkpointing system is needed to enable efficient checkpoint management at scale throughout the lifecycle of LFM development. We introduce ByteCheckpoint, an industrial-grade checkpointing system for large-scale LFM training. ByteCheckpoint features: a parallelism-agnostic checkpoint representation that enables efficient load-time checkpoint resharding; a generic checkpoint saving/loading workflow to accommodate multiple training frameworks and support different storage backends; full-stack optimizations to ensure high I/O efficiency and scalability; a suite of monitoring tools to streamline large-scale performance analysis and bottleneck detection. Compared to existing open-source checkpointing systems [52, 58], ByteCheckpoint significantly reduces runtime checkpoint stalls, achieving an average reduction of 54.20x. For saving and loading times, ByteCheckpoint achieves improvements of up to 9.96x and 8.80x, respectively.

Besov-Lipschitz norm and $p$-energy measure on scale-irregular Vicsek sets

In this paper, we establish the existence of $p$-energy norms and the corresponding $p$-energy measures for scale-irregular Vicsek sets, which may lack self-similarity. We also investigate the characterizations of $p$-energy norms in terms of Besov-Lipschitz norms, with their weak monotonicity and the corresponding Bourgain-Brezis-Mironescu convergence.

Weak monotonicity property of Korevaar-Schoen norms on nested fractals

In this paper, we study the weak monotonicity property of p-energy related Korevaar-Schoen norms on connected nested fractals for $1 < p < \infty$. Such property has many important applications on fractals and other metric measure spaces, such as constructing p-energies (when $p = 2$ this is basically a Dirichlet form), generalizing the classical Sobolev type inequalities and the celebrated Bourgain-Brezis-Mironescu convergence.

Heat kernel-based p-energy norms on metric measure spaces

We investigate heat kernel-based and other $p$-energy norms (1<p<\infty) on bounded and unbounded metric measure spaces, in particular, on nested fractals and their blowups. With the weak-monotonicity properties for these norms, we generalise the celebrated Bourgain-Brezis-Mironescu (BBM) type characterization for p\neq2. When there admits a heat kernel satisfying the two-sided estimates, we establish the equivalence of various $p$-energy norms and weak-monotonicity properties, and show that these weak-monotonicity properties hold when p=2 (in the case of Dirichlet form). Our paper's key results concern the equivalence and verification of various weak-monotonicity properties on fractals. Consequently, many classical results on p-energy norms hold on nested fractals and their blowups, including the BBM type characterization and Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality.

A dichotomy on the self-similarity of graph-directed attractors

This paper seeks conditions that ensure that the attractor of a graph directed iterated function system (GD-IFS) cannot be realised as the attractor of a standard iterated function system (IFS). For a strongly connected directed graph, it is known that, if all directed circuits go through a vertex, then for any GD-IFS of similarities on $\mathbb{R}$ based on the graph and satisfying the convex open set condition (COSC), its attractor associated with this vertex is also the attractor of a (COSC) standard IFS. In this paper we show the following complementary result. If a directed circuit does not go through a vertex, then there exists a GD-IFS based on the graph such that the attractor associated with this vertex is not the attractor of any standard IFS of similarities. Indeed, we give algebraic conditions for such GD-IFS attractors not to be attractors of standard IFSs, and thus show that `almost-all' COSC GD-IFSs based on the graph have attractors associated with this vertex that are not the attractors of any COSC standard IFS.
