Noncommutative Minkowski integral inequality and a unitary categorification criterion for fusion rings

We prove a noncommutative analogue of Minkowski's integral inequality for commuting squares of tracial von Neumann algebras. The inequality implies a necessary condition for a quadruple of graphs to be realized as inclusion graphs of a commuting square of multi-matrix algebras. As a corollary, we obtain a unitary categorification criterion for based rings, in particular, fusion rings.

Property (T) group factors whose Jones index set equals all positive integers

Using a m\'elange of techniques at the rich intersection of deformation/rigidity theory, finite index subfactor theory, and geometric group theory, we prove the existence of a continuum of property (T) factors that are pairwise non-stably isomorphic and whose Jones index sets consist of all positive integers. These factors are realized as group von Neumann algebras $\mathcal{L}(G)$ associated with property (T) generalized wreath-like product groups $G \in \mathscr{WR}(A, B \curvearrowright I)$ introduced in [CIOS23b], where $A$ is abelian, $B$ is a non-parabolic subgroup of a relatively hyperbolic group with residually finite peripheral structure, and $B \curvearrowright I$ is a faithful action with infinite orbits. Integer index subfactors of $\mathcal{L}(G)$ are constructed from extensions of $G$. This result advances an open question of P. de la Harpe [dlH95].

An index for quantum cellular automata on fusion spin chains

Interpreting the GNVW index for 1D quantum cellular automata (QCA) in terms of the Jones index for subfactors leads to a generalization of the index defined for QCA on more general abstract spin chains. These include fusion spin chains, which arise as the local operators invariant under a global (categorical/MPO) symmetry, and as the boundary operators of 2D topological codes. We show that for the fusion spin chains built from the fusion category $\mathbf{Fib}$, the index is a complete invariant for the group of QCA modulo finite depth circuits.
