MAIA: A new detector concept for a 10 TeV muon collider

Muon colliders offer a compelling opportunity to explore the TeV scale and conduct precision tests of the Standard Model, all within a relatively compact geographical footprint. This paper introduces a new detector concept, MAIA (Muon Accelerator Instrumented Apparatus), optimized for $\sqrt{s}=10$ TeV $\mu^+ \mu^-$ collisions. The detector features an all-silicon tracker immersed in a 5T solenoid field. High-granularity silicon-tungsten and iron-scintillator calorimeters surrounding the solenoid capture high-energy electronic and hadronic showers, respectively, and support particle-flow reconstruction. The outermost subsystem comprises an air-gap muon spectrometer, which contributes to muon identification. The performance of the MAIA detector is evaluated in terms of differential particle reconstruction efficiencies and resolutions. Beam-induced background and incoherent pair production simulations are overlaid to single particle gun samples to assess detector reconstruction capabilities under realistic experimental conditions. Even in the presence of backgrounds, reconstruction efficiencies exceed approximately 95\% for energetic tracks, photons, and charged pions in the central region of the detector. This paper outlines promising avenues for future work, including forward region optimization, opportunities for enhanced flavor tagging and boosted object reconstruction, and technological developments needed to achieve the desired detector performance.

Designing Phase Sensitive Probes of Monopole Superconducting Order

Distinct from familiar $s$-, $p$-, or $d$-wave pairings, the monopole superconducting order represents a novel class of pairing order arising from nontrivial monopole charge of the Cooper pair. In the weak-coupling regime, this order can emerge when pairing occurs between Fermi surfaces with different Chern numbers in, for example, doped Weyl semimetal systems. However, the phase of monopole pairing order is not well-defined over an entire Fermi surface, making it challenging to design experiments sensitive to both its symmetry and topology. To address this, we propose a scheme based on symmetry and topological principles to identify this elusive pairing order through a set of phase-sensitive Josephson experiments. By examining the discrepancy between global and local angular momentum of the pairing order, we can unveil the monopole charge of the pairing order. We demonstrate the proposed probe of monopole pairing order through analytic and numerical studies of Josephson coupling in models of monopole superconductor junctions. This work opens a promising avenue to uncover the unique topological properties of monopole pairing orders and to distinguish them from known pairing orders based on spherical harmonic symmetry.

Multi wavefunction overlap and multi entropy for topological ground states in (2+1) dimensions

Multi-wavefunction overlaps -- generalizations of the quantum mechanical inner product for more than two quantum many-body states -- are valuable tools for studying many-body physics. In this paper, we investigate the multi-wavefunction overlap of (2+1)-dimensional gapped ground states, focusing particularly on symmetry-protected topological (SPT) states. We demonstrate how these overlaps can be calculated using the bulk-boundary correspondence and (1+1)-dimensional edge theories, specifically conformal field theory. When applied to SPT phases, we show that the topological invariants, which can be thought of as discrete higher Berry phases, can be extracted from the multi-wavefunction overlap of four ground states with appropriate symmetry actions. Additionally, we find that the multi-wavefunction overlap can be expressed in terms of the realignment of reduced density matrices. Furthermore, we illustrate that the same technique can be used to evaluate the multi-entropy -- a quantum information theoretical quantity associated with multi-partition of many-body quantum states -- for (2+1)-dimensional gapped ground states. Combined with numerics, we show that the difference between multi-entropy for tripartition and second Rényi entropies is bounded from below by $(c_{\it tot}/4)\ln 2$ where $c_{\it tot}$ is the central charge of ungappable degrees of freedom. To calculate multi-entropy numerically for free fermion systems (such as Chern insulators), we develop the correlator method for multi-entropy.

Hund's coupling-assisted ferromagnetic percolation transition in a multiorbital flat band

By connecting Hund's physics with flat band physics, we establish an exact result for studying ferromagnetism in a multiorbital system. We consider a two-layer model consisting of a $p_x$, $p_y$-orbital honeycomb lattice layer and an $f$-orbital triangular lattice layer with sites aligned with the centers of the honeycomb plaquettes. The system features a flat band that admits a percolation representation for an appropriate chemical potential difference between the two layers. In this representation, the ground state space is spanned by maximum-spin clusters of localized single-particle states, and averaging over the ground states yields a correlated percolation problem with weights due to the spin degeneracy of the clusters. A paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition occurs as the band approaches half filling and the ground states become dominated by states with a large maximum-spin cluster, as shown by Monte Carlo simulation.
