Constraints of dark matter direct detection experiments on the MSSM and implications for LHC Higgs searches

Assuming the lightest neutralino solely composes the cosmic dark matter, we examine the constraints of the CDMS-II and XENON100 dark matter direct searches on the parameter space of the MSSM Higgs sector. We find that the current CDMS-II/XENON100 limits can exclude some of the parameter space which survive the constraints from the dark matter relic density and various collider experiments. We also find that in the currently allowed parameter space, the charged Higgs boson is hardly accessible at the LHC for an integrated luminosity of 30 fb^{-1}, while the neutral non-SM Higgs bosons (H,A) may be accessible in some allowed region characterized by a large μ. The future XENON100 (6000 kg-days exposure) will significantly tighten the parameter space in case of nonobservation of dark matter, further shrinking the likelihood of discovering the non-SM Higgs bosons at the LHC.

SUSY dark matter in light of CDMS II results: a comparative study for different models

We perform a comparative study of the neutralino dark matter scattering on nucleon in three popular supersymmetric models: the minimal (MSSM), the next-to-minimal (NMSSM) and the nearly minimal (nMSSM). First, we give the predictions of the elastic cross section by scanning over the parameter space allowed by various direct and indirect constraints, which are from the measurement of the cosmic dark matter relic density, the collider search for Higgs boson and sparticles, the precision electroweak measurements and the muon anomalous magnetic moment. Then we demonstrate the property of the allowed parameter space with/without the new limits from CDMS II. We obtain the following observations: (i) For each model the new CDMS limits can exclude a large part of the parameter space allowed by current collider constraints; (ii) The property of the allowed parameter space is similar for MSSM and NMSSM, but quite different for nMSSM; (iii) The future SuperCDMS can cover most part of the allowed parameter space for each model.

Lepton flavor-changing processes in R-parity violating MSSM: Z->l_i l_j and γγ->l_i l_j under new bounds from l_i->l_j γ

We examine the lepton flavor-changing processes in R-parity violating MSSM. First, we update the constraints on the relevant R-violating couplings by using the latest data on the rare decays l_i->l_j γ. We find that the updated constraints are much stronger than the old ones from rare Z-decays at LEP. Then we calculate the processes Z->l_i l_j and γγ->l_i l_j. We find that with the updated constraints the R-violating couplings can still enhance the rates of these processes to the sensitivity of GigaZ and photon-photon collision options of the ILC.

Top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron: a comparative study in different new physics models

The top quark forward-backward asymmetry A_{FB}^t measured at the Tevatron is above the Standard Model prediction by more than 2-sigma deviation, which might be a harbinger for new physics. In this work we examine the contribution to A_{FB}^t in two different new physics models: one is the minimal supersymmetric model without R-parity (RPV-MSSM) which contributes to A_{FB}^t via sparticle-mediated t-channel process d d_bar-> t t_bar; the other is the third-generation enhanced left-right model (LR model) which contributes to A_{FB}^t via Z'-mediated t-channel or s-channel processes. We find that in the parameter space allowed by the tt_bar production rate and the tt_bar invariant mass distribution at the Tevatron, the LR model can enhance A_{FB}^t to within the 2-sigma region of the Tevatron data for the major part of the parameter space, and in optimal case A_{FB}^t can reach 12% which is slightly below the 1-sigma lower bound. For the RPV-MSSM, only in a narrow part of the parameter space can the λ'' couplings enhance A_{FB}^t to within the 2-sigma region while the λ' couplings just produce negative contributions to worsen the fit.

Lepton-Specific Two-Higgs Doublet Model: Experimental Constraints and Implication on Higgs Phenomenology

We examine various direct and indirect constraints on the lepton-specific two-Higgs doublet model and scrutinize the property of the Higgs bosons in the allowed parameter space. These constraints come from the precision electroweak data, the direct search for Higgs boson, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, as well as some theoretical consistency requirements. We find that in the allowed parameter space the CP-odd Higgs boson A is rather light (m_A < 30 GeV with 95% possibility), which is composed dominantly by the leptonic Higgs and decays dominantly into τ^+ τ^-; while the SM-like Higgs boson h (responsible largely for electroweak symmetry breaking) decays dominantly in the mode h->A A->4 τwith a large decay width, which will make the Higgs discovery more difficult at the LHC. Whereas, this scenario predicts a branching ratio Br(Z->τ^+ τ^- A) ranging from 10^{-5} to 10^{-4}, which may be accessible at the the GigaZ option of the ILC.

Experimental constraints on nMSSM and implications on its phenomenology

We examine various direct and indirect experimental constraints on the nearly minimal supersymmetric standard model (nMSSM) and obtain the following observations: (i) Current experiments stringently constrain the parameter space, setting a range of 1-37 GeV for the lightest neutralino (LSP), 30-140 GeV (1-250 GeV) for the lightest CP-even (CP-odd) Higgs boson, and 1.5-10 for \tanβ; (ii) To account for the dark matter relic density, besides the s-channel exchange of a Z-boson, the s-channel exchange of a light A_1 (the lightest CP-odd Higgs boson) can also play an important role in LSP annihilation. Compared with the Z-exchange annihilation channel, the A_1 exchange channel is more favored by muon g-2 data and allows much broader regions for the parameters; (iii) In a large part of the allowed parameter space the SM-like Higgs boson may dominantly decay to LSP pair or A_1 pair and the conventional visible decays (e.g. into bottom quarks) are severely suppressed.

R-parity violating effects in top quark FCNC productions at LHC

In the minimal supersymmetric model the R-parity violating top quark interactions, which are so far weakly constrained, can induce various flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) productions for the top quark at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In this work we assume the presence of the B-violating couplings and examine their contributions to the FCNC productions proceeding through the parton processes cg -> t, gg -> t c_bar, cg -> tγ, cg -> t Z and cg -> t h. We find that all these processes can be greatly enhanced relative to the R-parity preserving predictions. In the parameter space allowed by current experiments, all the production channels except cg ->t h can reach the 3-sigma sensitivity, in contrast to the R-parity preserving case in which only cg -> t can reach the 3-sigma sensitivity.

Anomaly of Zbb coupling revisited in MSSM and NMSSM

The Zbb coupling determined from the Z-pole measurements at LEP/SLD shows an about 3-sigma deviation from the SM prediction, which would signal the presence of new physics in association with the Zbb coupling. In this work we give a comprehensive study for the full one-loop supersymmetric effects on the Zbb coupling in both the MSSM and the NMSSM by considering all current constraints which are from the precision electroweak measurements, the direct search for sparticles and Higgs bosons, the stability of Higgs potential, the dark matter relic density, and the muon g-2 measurement. We analyze the characters of each type of the corrections and search for the SUSY parameter regions where the corrections could be sizable. We find that the sizable corrections may come from the Higgs sector with light m_A and large tan-beta, which can reach -2% and -6% for rho_b and sin^2 θ_{eff}^b,respectively. However, such sizable negative corrections are just opposite to what needed to solve the anomaly. We also scan over the allowed parameter space and investigate to what extent supersymmetry can narrow the discrepancy. We find that under all current constraints, the supersymmetric effects are quite restrained and cannot significantly ameliorate the anomaly of Zbb coupling. Compared with χ^2/dof = 9.62/2 in the SM, the MSSM and NMSSM can only improve it to χ^2/dof = 8.77/2 in the allowed parameter space. Therefore, if the anomaly of Zbb coupling is not a statistical or systematic problem, it would suggest new physics beyond the MSSM or NMSSM.

Current experimental constraints on NMSSM with large lambda

The next-to-minimal supersymmetric model (NMSSM) with a large lambda (the mixing parameter between the singlet and doublet Higgs fields) is well motivated since it can significantly push up the upper bound on the SM-like Higgs boson mass to solve the little hierarchy problem. In this work we examine the current experimental constraints on the NMSSM with a large lambda, which include the direct search for Higgs boson and sparticles at colliders, the indirect constraints from precision electroweak measurements, the cosmic dark matter relic density, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, as well as the stability of the Higgs potential. We find that, with the increase of lambda, parameters like tan-beta, M_A, mu and M_2 are becoming more stringently constrained. It turns out that the maximal reach of lambda is limited by the muon anomalous magnetic moment, and for smuon masses of 200 GeV (500 GeV) the parameter space with lambda > 1.5 (0.6) is excluded.

Top-quark FCNC Productions at LHC in Topcolor-assisted Technicolor Model

We evaluate the top-quark FCNC productions induced by the topcolor assisted technicolor (TC2) model at the LHC. These productions proceed respectively through the parton-level processes g g -> t c_bar, c g->t, c g -> t g, c g -> t Z and c g -> t γ. We show the dependence of the production rates on the relevant TC2 parameters and compare the results with the predictions in the minimal supersymmetric model. We find that for each channel the TC2 model predicts a much larger production rate than the supersymmetric model. All these rare productions in the TC2 model can be enhanced above the 3-sigma sensitivity of the LHC. Since in the minimal supersymmetric model only c g -> t is slightly larger than the corresponding LHC sensitivity, the observation of these processes will favor the TC2 model over the supersymmetric model. In case of unobservation, the LHC can set meaningful constraints on the TC2 parameters.

Experimental Constraints on Scharm-Stop Flavor Mixing and Implications in Top-quark FCNC Processes

We examine experimental constraints on scharm-stop flavor mixing in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, which arise from the experimental bounds on squark and Higgs boson masses, the precision measurements of W-boson mass and the effective weak mixing angle, as well as the experimental data on B_s-\bar B_s mixing and b -> s gamma. We find that the combined analysis can put rather stringent constraints on \tilde{c}_L-\tilde{t}_L and \tilde{c}_L-\tilde{t}_R mixings. As an illustration for the effects of such constraints, we examine various top-quark flavor-changing neutral-current processes induced by scharm-stop mixings at the LHC and find that their maximal rates are significantly lowered.

Lightest Higgs Boson Mass in Split Supersymmetry with See-saw Mechanism

In the minimal supersymmetric standard model extended by including right-handed neutrinos with see-saw mechanism, the neutrino Yukaka couplings can be as large as the top-quark Yukawa couplings and thus the neutrino/sneutrino may cause sizable effects in Higgs boson self-energy loops. Our explicit one-loop calculations show that the neutrino/sneutrino effects may have an opposite sign to top/stop effects and thus lighten the lightest Higgs boson. If the soft-breaking mass of the right-handed neutrino is very large (at the order of Majorana mass scale), such as in the split-SUSY scenario, the effects can lower the lightest Higgs boson mass by a few tens of GeV. So the Higgs mass bound of about 150 GeV in split-SUSY may be lowered significantly if right-handed neutrinos come into play with see-saw mechanism.

Probing New Physics from Top-charm Associated Productions at Linear Colliders

The top-charm associated productions via $e^+ e^-$, $e^- γ$ and $γγ$ collisions at linear colliders, which are extremely suppressed in the Standard Model (SM), could be significantly enhanced in some extensions of the SM. In this article we calculate the full contribution of the topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) to these productions and then compare the results with the existing predictions of the SM, the general two-Higgs-doublet model and the Minimal Supersymmetric Model. We find that the TC2 model predicts much larger production rates than other models and the largest-rate channel is $γγ\to t \bar{c}$, which exceeds 10 fb for a large part of the parameter space. From the analysis of the observability of such productions at the future linear colliders, we find that the predictions of the TC2 model can reach the observable level for a large part of the parameter space while the predictions of other models are hardly accessible.

Probing Topcolor-Assisted Technicolor from Like-sign Top Pair Production at LHC

The topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) theory predicts tree-level flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) top quark Yukawa couplings with top-pions. Such FCNC interactions will induce like-sign top quark pair productions at CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). While these rare productions are far below the observable level in the Standard Model and other popular new physics models such as the Minimal Supersymmetric Model, we find that in a sound part of parameter space the TC2 model can enhance the production cross sections to several tens of fb and thus may be observable at the LHC due to rather low backgrounds. Searching for these productions at the LHC will serve as an excellent probe for the TC2 model.

Lepton flavor violating Z-decays in supersymmetric see-saw model

In supersymmetric see-saw model, the large flavor mixings of sleptons induce the lepton flavor violating (LFV) interactions $\ell_I \bar\ell_J V$ ($V=γ, Z$), which give rise to various LFV processes. In this work we examine the induced LFV decays $Z\to\ell_I \bar\ell_J$. Subject to the constraints from the existing neutrino oscillation data and the experimental bounds on the decays $\ell_J\to\ell_Iγ$, these LFV $Z$-decays are found to be sizable, among which the largest-rate channel $Z\to τ\barμ$ can ocuur with a branching ratio of $10^{-8}$ and may be accessible at the LHC or GiagZ experiment.

Supersymmetric effects in top quark decay into polarized W-boson

We investigate the one-loop supersymmetric QCD (SUSY-QCD) and electroweak (SUSY-EW) corrections to the top quark decay into a b-quark and a longitudinal or transverse W-boson. The corrections are presented in terms of the longitudinal ratio Γ(t-->W_L b)/Γ(t--> W b) and the transverse ratio Γ(t-->W_- b)/Γ(t--> W b). In most of the parameter space, both SUSY-QCD and SUSY-EW corrections to these ratios are found to be less than 1% in magnitude and they tend to have opposite signs. The corrections to the total width Γ(t-->W b) are also presented for comparison with the existing results in the literature. We find that our SUSY-EW corrections to the total width differ significantly from previous studies: the previous studies give a large correction of more than 10% in magnitude for a large part of the parameter space while our results reach only few percent at most.

Higgs-boson production associated with a bottom quark at hadron colliders with SUSY-QCD corrections

The Higgs boson production p p (p\bar p) -> b h +X via b g -> b h at the LHC, which may be an important channel for testing the bottom quark Yukawa coupling, is subject to large supersymmetric quantum corrections. In this work the one-loop SUSY-QCD corrections to this process are evaluated and are found to be quite sizable in some parameter space. We also study the behavior of the corrections in the limit of heavy SUSY masses and find the remnant effects of SUSY-QCD. These remnant effects, which are left over in the Higgs sector by the heavy sparticles, are found to be so sizable (for a light CP-odd Higgs and large \tanβ) that they might be observable in the future LHC experiment. The exploration of such remnant effects is important for probing SUSY, especially in case that the sparticles are too heavy (above TeV) to be directly discovered at the LHC.

Probing Topcolor-Assisted Technicolor from Top-Charm Associated Production at LHC

We propose to probe the topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) model from the top-charm associated productions at the LHC, which are highly suppressed in the Standard Model. Due to the flavor-changing couplings of the top quark with the scalars (top-pions and top-Higgs) in TC2 model, the top-charm associated productions can occur via both the s-channel and t-channel parton processes by exchanging a scalar field at the LHC. We examined these processes through Monte Carlo simulation and found that they can reach the observable level at the LHC in quite a large part of the parameter space of the TC2 model.
