Boosting indirect detection of a secluded dark matter sector

Dark Matter (DM) residing in a secluded sector with suppressed portal interaction could evade direct detections and collider searches. The indirect detections provide the most robust probe to this scenario. Depending on the structure of the dark sector, novel DM annihilation spectra are possible. The dark shower is a common phenomenon for particles in the dark sector which take part in strong interactions and are boosted. In terms of simplified two-component DM models with vector portal interaction and pseudoscalar portal interaction, we study the dark showering effects for DM indirect detection. In those models, the heavier DM component which dominates the relic density annihilates into boosted lighter species. Together with the large coupling through which the lighter DM annihilates away in the early universe, the showered spectra provide as the smoking gun for the DM existence. Considering bounds obtained by the AMS-02 positron data and Fermi-LAT measurement of gamma-ray from the dwarf galaxies, we find the dark shower could open a new region of sensitivity that can not be probed before.

Investigating the collinear splitting effects of boosted dark matter at neutrino detectors

We study the probing prospects of cosmic ray boosted dark matter (DM) in the framework of simplified electron-philic dark photon model. Focusing on the dark matter and dark photon masses around keV $\sim $ MeV scale, we consider the bounds obtained from the XENON1T and Super-K experiments. The electron bound state effects are treated carefully in calculating the XENON1T constraint. As for the detection at neutrino detector where the energy threshold is relatively higher, the large logarithmic effects induced by the scale hierarchy between the masses and momentum transfer are considered by introducing the DM parton distribution function (PDF). The logarithmic effects will reduce the electron recoil rate for DM scattering in neutrino detectors. Moreover, we find the DUNE and JUNO experiments provide high sensitivities for probing the dark photon component in the DM PDF through the dark Compton process. We also check the Bullet Cluster constraint on the DM self-scattering cross section.

Comments on the expanded Maxwell's equations for moving charged media system

In the recent work~\cite{Wang:2021p2}, the author proposed the expanded Maxwell's equations for moving charged media system, which seems subtle. Considering a very short time, we can approximately define the inertial frame of reference. If we assume all the physical quantities are defined in the same reference frame by default, Maxwell's equations for the static media system and moving media system are definitely the traditional Maxwell's equations, which are covariant and consistent with the two fundamental postulates of special relativity. We even prove the covariance of Maxwell's equations explicitly by considering the Lorentz transformation under the ${\cal O} (v)$ order approximation and the Galileo approximation, respectively. Therefore, it seems to us that the fields in the expanded Maxwell's equations cannot be in the same reference frame. Defining the fields in the lab and co-moving frames explicitly, we derive the expanded Maxwell's equations for moving media system. Furthermore, we discuss another possible variant of Maxwell's equations, which has an additional coefficient $α$ related to the media. However, it is still subtle from theoretical point of view.

The quirk signal at FASER and FASER 2

We study FASER and FASER 2 sensitivities to the quirk signal by simulating the motions of quirks that are travelling through several infrastructures from the ATLAS interaction point to the FASER (2) detector. The ionization energy losses for a charged quirk travelling in different materials are treated carefully. We calculate the expected numbers of quirk events that can reach the FASER (2) detector for an integrated luminosity of 150 (3000) fb$^{-1}$. Scenarios for quirks with four different quantum numbers, and different masses and confinement scales are studied.

Multi-scalar signature of self-interacting dark matter in the NMSSM and beyond

This work studies the self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) scenario in the general NMSSM and beyond, where the dark matter is a Majorana fermion and the force mediator is a scalar boson. An improved analytical expression for the dark matter (DM) self-interacting cross section which takes into account the Born level effects is proposed. Due to the large couplings and light mediator in SIDM scenario, the DM/mediator will go through multiple branchings if they are produced with high energy. Based on the Monte Carlo simulation of the showers in the DM sector, we obtain the multiplicities and the spectra of the DM/mediator from the Higgsino production and decay at the LHC for our benchmark points.

Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment and Higgs Potential Stability in the 331 Model from $SU(6)$

We consider a $SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times U(1)_X$ model from a $SU(6)$ Grand Unified Theory (GUT). In order to explain the anomalous magnetic moments of muon and electron, we introduce two new scalar triplets without vacuum expectation values (VEVs) so that the leading contributions to $Δa_μ$ and $Δa_{e}$ can avoid the suppression from small muon mass. In addition, the Higgs potential stability of this 331 model is studied by giving a set of sufficient conditions to ensure the boundedness from below of the potential.

$SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ model from $SU(6)$

We propose the $SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ model arising from $SU(6)$ breaking. One family of the Standard Model (SM) fermions arises from two $\bar{6}$ representations and one $15$ representation of $SU(6)$ gauge symmetry. To break the $SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry down to the SM, we introduce three $SU(3)_L$ triplet Higgs fields, where two of them come from the $\bar{6}$ representation while the other one from the $15$ representation. We study the gauge boson masses and Higgs boson mass in detail, and find that the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the Higgs field for $SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry breaking is around 10 TeV. The neutrino masses and mixing can be generated via the littlest inverse seesaw mechanism. In particular, we have normal hierarchy for neutrino masses and the lightest active neutrino is massless. Also, we consider constraints from the charged lepton flavor changing decays as well. Furthermore, introducing two $SU(3)_L$ adjoint fermions, one $SU(3)_C$ adjoint scalar, and one $SU(3)_L$ triplet scalar, we can achieve gauge coupling unification within 1\%. These extra particles can provide a dark matter candidate as well.

Uncovering quirk signal via energy loss inside tracker

The quirk particle carries Lorentz force and long-range infracolor force, while suffers relatively large ionization energy loss inside the detector. It can be indirectly constrained by mono-jet search or directly search through co-planar hits if the confinement scale is not too low ($Λ\gtrsim 100$ eV). Considering the ionization energy loss inside tracker, we improve the co-planar search. We also will solve the equation of motion for quirks numerically by including all of the important contributions. Based on our selection strategy, the $\sim 100$ fb$^{-1}$ dataset at the LHC will be able to probe the colored fermion/scalar quirks with masses up to {2.1/1.1 TeV}, and the color neutral fermion/scalar quirks with masses up to {450/150 GeV}, respectively.

The quirk trajectory

We for the first time obtain the analytical solution for the quirk equation of motion in an approximate way. Based on it, we study several features of quirk trajectory in a more precise way, including quirk oscillation amplitude, number of periods, as well as the thickness of quirk pair plane. Moreover, we find an exceptional case where the quirk crosses at least one of the tracking layers repeatedly. Finally, we consider the effects of ionization energy loss and fixed direction of infracolor string for a few existing searches.
