Coupling-Dependent Switching Between Synchronization Regimes in Feedback Time Delays Laser System

We study a model for two lasers that are mutually coupled opto-electronically by modulating the pump of one laser with the intensity deviations from the steady-state output of the other. Such a model is analogous to the equations describing the spread of certain diseases such as dengue epidemics in human populations coupled by migration, transportation, etc. In this report we consider the possibility of both in-phase (complete) and anti-phase (inverse) synchronization between the above-mentioned laser models. Depending on the coupling rates between the systems a transition from the in-phase (complete) synchronization to the anti-phase (inverse) synchronization might occur. The results are important for the disruption of the spread of the certain infectious diseases in human populations.

Dithered Time Delays and Chaos Synchronization in Lasers with Multiple Feedbacks

By studying laser systems with multiple time delays, we demonstrate that the signatures of time delays in the autocorrelation coefficient and the mutual information of the laser output can be erased for systems with variable time delays. This property makes such laser systems highly suitable for secure chaos-based communication systems. We also present the first report on chaos synchronization in both unidirectionally and bidirectionally coupled variable multiple time delay laser diodes with electro-optical feedbacks.

Generalized Synchronization in Laser Devices with Electro-Optical Feedback

We report on partial and global generalized synchronization in exemplar bidirectionally coupled non-identical chaotic systems with multiple time delays. We derive conditions for such synchronization regimes. The general approach is applied to the case of multiple time delay laser systems with electro-optical feedback. We also study the effect of signal sampling on the signatures of time delays in the autocorrelation function of the multiple time delay laser output.

Erasure of Time Delay Signatures in the Output of an Optoelectronic Feedback Laser with Modulated Delays and Chaos Synchronization

By studying the autocorrelation function of the optoelectronic feedback semiconductor laser output we establish that the signatures of time delays can be erased in systems incorporating modulated feedback time delays. This property is of importance for the suitability of such laser systems for secure chaos-based communication systems. We also make the first report on chaos synchronization in both unidirectionally and bidirectionally coupled multiple time delay chaotic semiconductor lasers with modulated optoelectronic feedbacks.

Synchronization in Multiple Time Delay Chaotic Laser Diodes Subject to Incoherent Optical Feedbacks and Incoherent Optical Injection

We present the first report of the synchronization regimes in both unidirectionally and bidirectionally-coupled multiple time delay chaotic laser diodes subject to incoherent optical feedbacks and incoherent optical injection. We derive the existence conditions and numerically study the stability for lag, complete, and anticipating synchronization regimes and cascaded synchronization. We also study in detail the effect of parameter mismatches and noise on the synchronization quality. It is emphasized that sensitivity of the synchronization quality to parameter mismatches can lead to a high level of security due to the difficulty to replicate the receiver laser. We show that the injection current and feedback delay times are highly important parameters from this point of view.

Adaptive time-delay hyperchaos synchronization in laser diodes subject to optical feedback(s)

In this paper a proposal is made of an adaptive coupling function for achieving synchronization between two lasers subject to optical feedback. Such a control scheme requires knowledge of the systems' parameters. For the first time we demonstrate that when these parameters are not available on-line parameter estimation can be applied.Generalisation of the approach to the multi-feedback systems is also presented.

Parameter mismatches, variable delay times and synchronization in time-delayed systems

We investigate synchronization between two unidirectionally linearly coupled chaotic non-identical time-delayed systems and show that parameter mismatches are of crucial importance to achieve synchronization. We establish that independent of the relation between the delay time in the coupled systems and the coupling delay time, only retarded synchronization with the coupling delay time is obtained. We show that with parameter mismatch or without it neither complete nor anticipating synchronization occurs. We derive existence and stability conditions for the retarded synchronization manifold. We demonstrate our approach using examples of the Ikeda and Mackey-Glass models. Also for the first time we investigate chaos synchronization in time-delayed systems with variable delay time and find both existence and sufficient stability conditions for the retarded synchronization manifold with the coupling delay lag time. Also for the first time we consider synchronization between two unidirectionally coupled chaotic multi-feedback Ikeda systems and derive existence and stability conditions for the different anticipating, lag, and complete synchronization regimes.

Lag time and parameter mismatches in synchronization of unidirectionally coupled chaotic external cavity semiconductor lasers

We report an analysis of synchronization between two unidirectionally coupled chaotic external cavity master/slave semiconductor lasers with two characteristic delay times, where the delay time in the coupling is different from the delay time in the coupled systems themselves. We demonstrate for the first time that parameter mismatches in photon decay rates for the master and slave lasers can explain the experimental observation that the lag time is equal to the coupling delay time.

Analytical Investigation of Anticipating Synchronization in time-delayed and Cascaded Systems

For the first time, using a modified Ikeda model it is demonstrated analytically that anticipating synchronization can be obtained in chaotic time-delay systems governed by two characteristic delay times. We derive existence and stability conditions for the dual-time anticipating synchronization manifold. We also show that increased anticipation times for chaotic time-delay systems with two characteristic delay times can be obtained by the use of cascaded systems.

Dual and Dual-Cross Synchronizations in Chaotic Systems

In this paper we investigate dual synchronization and dual-cross synchronization between the transmitter and receiver, each one consisting of two master and slave systems. These findings are considered to be of interest in multichannel communication schemes.

Inverse Anticipating Synchronization

We report a new type of chaos synchronization:inverse anticipating synchronization, where a time delay chaotic system can drive another system in such a way that the driven system anticipates the driver by synchronizing with its inverse future state. We extend the concept of inverse anticipating chaos synchronization to cascaded systems. We propose means for the experimental observation of inverse anticipating chaos synchronization in external cavity lasers.

Exact Lag Synchronization in Time Delay Systems and Why Experimental Lag Times Can Differ from Theoretical Predictions

We present analytical investigation of exact lag synchronization between two unidirectionally coupled identical time delay systems with two characteristic delay times, where the delay time in the coupling is different from the delay time in the coupled systems themselves. For the first time we demonstrate that parameter mismatches can explain the experimental observation that the lag time is equal to the coupling delay.

Exact anticipating synchronization in bi-directionally coupled time-delayed systems

We present an analytical investigation of exact anticipating synchronization between two bi-idirectionally coupled time-delayed systems in the case when these systems are governed by two characteristic times: the delay time in the coupling and the delay time in the coupled systems. We apply our approach to interpret the results of recent first experimental observation of anticipating chaos synchronization in external cavity semiconductor lasers with optical feedback. We establish that our approach can explain the experimental results only for special cases.
