High-throughput bidirectional electro-optic transduction assessed with a practical quantum capacity

A microwave-optical transducer of sufficiently low noise and high signal transfer rate would allow entanglement to be distributed between superconducting quantum processors reliably within the lifetimes of their quantum memories. To clarify the multifaceted performance required for such a task, we derive a broadband quantum channel capacity that bounds the maximum rate at which quantum information can be sent through realistic finite-bandwidth thermal-loss channels. This capacity serves as a comprehensive measure of transducer performance and provides insight into the relative importance of disparate metrics. We find that the broadband capacity depends on the throughput -- defined as the product of efficiency, bandwidth, and duty cycle -- and on the added noise. We present measurements of a membrane-based opto-electromechanical transducer with high throughput of 7 kHz and at an input-referred added noise of 3 photons in both upconversion and downconversion, demonstrating that bidirectional transducer capacities comparable to superconducting qubit decay rates are within reach. In downconversion, throughput of this magnitude at the few-photon noise level is unprecedented, marking an improvement of nearly four orders of magnitude over previous work.

First elastic electron scattering from $^{132}$Xe at the SCRIT facility

The first elastic electron scattering has been successfully performed at the self-confining RI ion target (SCRIT) facility, the world's first electron scattering facility for exotic nuclei. The SCRIT technique achieved high luminosity (over 10$^{27}$~cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$, sufficient for determining the nuclear shape) with only 10$^8$ target ions. While $^{132}$Xe used in this time as a target is stable isotope, the charge density distribution was firstly extracted from the momentum transfer distributions of the scattered electrons by comparing the results with those calculated by a phase shift calculation.

Measurement of the jet width in gamma-gamma collisions and in e^+e^- annihilation process at TRISTAN

The shape of jets produced in (quasi-) real photon-photon collisions as well as in e^+e^- annihilation process has been studied with a cone jet finding algorithm, using the data taken with the TOPAZ detector at the TRISTAN e^+e^- collider at an average center-of-mass energy of 58 GeV. The results are presented in terms of the jet width as a function of the jet transverse energy(E^{jet}_T) as well as a scaled transverse jet energy, x_T(=2E^{jet}_T/root(s)). The jet width narrows as E^{jet}_T increases; however, at the same value of E^{jet}_T the jet width in gamma-gamma collisions at TRISTAN is significantly narrower than that in gamma p collisions at HERA. By comparing our results with the data in other reactions, it has been shown that the jet width in gamma-gamma, gamma p, p\bar{p} collisions as well as the e^+e^- annihilation process has an approximate scaling behavior as a function of x_T.
