Four-point conformal blocks with three heavy background operators

We study CFT$_2$ Virasoro conformal blocks of the 4-point correlation function $\langle \mathcal{O}_L \mathcal{O}_H \mathcal{O}_H \mathcal{O}_H \rangle $ with three background operators $\mathcal{O}_H$ and one perturbative operator $\mathcal{O}_L$ of dimensions $Δ_L/Δ_H \ll1$. The conformal block function is calculated in the large central charge limit using the monodromy method. From the holographic perspective, the background operators create $AdS_3$ space with three conical singularities parameterized by dimensions $Δ_H$, while the perturbative operator corresponds to the geodesic line stretched from the boundary to the bulk. The geodesic length calculates the perturbative conformal block. We propose how to address the block/length correspondence problem in the general case of higher-point correlation functions $\langle \mathcal{O}_L \cdots \mathcal{O}_L \mathcal{O}_H \cdots \mathcal{O}_H \rangle $ with arbitrary numbers of background and perturbative operators.

Perturbative classical conformal blocks as Steiner trees on the hyperbolic disk

We consider the Steiner tree problem in hyperbolic geometry in the context of the AdS/CFT duality between large-$c$ conformal blocks on the boundary and particle motions in the bulk. The Steiner trees are weighted graphs on the Poincare disk with a number of endpoints and trivalent vertices connected to each other by edges in such a way that an overall length is minimum. We specify a particular class of Steiner trees that we call holographic. Their characteristic property is that a holographic Steiner tree with $N$ endpoints can be inscribed into an $N$-gon with $N-1$ ideal vertices. The holographic Steiner trees are dual to large-$c$ conformal blocks. Particular examples of $N=2,3,4$ Steiner trees as well as their dual conformal blocks are explicitly calculated. We discuss geometric properties of the holographic Steiner trees and their realization in CFT terms. It is shown that connectivity and cuts of the Steiner trees encode the factorization properties of large-$c$ conformal blocks.

Unified formulation for helicity and continuous spin fermionic fields

We propose a unified BRST formulation of general massless fermionic fields of arbitrary mixed-symmetry type in $d$-dimensional Minkowski space. Depending on the value of the real parameter the system describes either helicity fields or continuous spin fields. Starting with the unified formulation we derive a number of equivalent descriptions including the triplet formulation, Fang-Fronsdal-Labastida formulation, light-cone formulation and discuss the unfolded formulation.

Large-c superconformal torus blocks

We study large-c SCFT2 on a torus specializing to one-point superblocks in the N=1 Neveu-Schwarz sector. Considering different contractions of the Neveu-Schwarz superalgebra related to the large central charge limit we explicitly calculate three superblocks, osp(1|2) global, light, and heavy-light superblocks, and show that they are related to each other. We formulate the osp(1|2) superCasimir eigenvalue equations and identify their particular solutions as the global superblocks. It is shown that the resulting differential equations are the Heun equations. We study exponentiated global superblocks arising at large conformal dimensions and demonstrate that in the leading approximation the osp(1|2) superblocks are equal to the non-supersymmetric sl(2) block.

Continuous spin fields of mixed-symmetry type

We propose a description of continuous spin massless fields of mixed-symmetry type in Minkowski space at the level of equations of motion. It is based on the appropriately modified version of the constrained system originally used to describe massless bosonic fields of mixed-symmetry type. The description is shown to produce generalized versions of triplet, metric-like, and light-cone formulations. In particular, for scalar continuous spin fields we reproduce the Bekaert-Mourad formulation and the Schuster-Toro formulation. Because a continuous spin system inevitably involves infinite number of fields, specification of the allowed class of field configurations becomes a part of its definition. We show that the naive choice leads to an empty system and propose a suitable class resulting in the correct degrees of freedom. We also demonstrate that the gauge symmetries present in the formulation are all Stueckelberg-like so that the continuous spin system is not a genuine gauge theory.

Holographic duals of large-c torus conformal blocks

We study CFT2 conformal blocks on a torus and their holographic realization. The classical conformal blocks arising in the regime where conformal dimensions grow linearly with the large central charge are shown to be holographically dual to the geodesic networks stretched in the thermal AdS bulk space. We discuss the n-point conformal blocks and their duals, the 2-point case is elaborated in full detail. We develop various techniques to calculate both quantum and classical conformal block functions. In particular, we show that exponentiated global torus blocks reproduce classical torus blocks in the specific perturbative regimes of the conformal parameter space.

Various semiclassical limits of torus conformal blocks

We study four types of one-point torus blocks arising in the large central charge regime. According to different limits of conformal dimensions we distinguish between the global block, the light block, the heavy-light block, and the linearized classical block. We show that they are not independent and connected to each other by various links. We find that the global, light, and heavy-light blocks correspond to three different contractions of the Virasoro algebra. Also, we formulate the c-recursive representation of the one-point torus blocks which is relevant in the semiclassical approximation.

Many-point classical conformal blocks and geodesic networks on the hyperbolic plane

We study the semiclassical holographic correspondence between 2d CFT n-point conformal blocks and massive particle configurations in the asymptotically AdS3 space. On the boundary we use the heavy-light approximation in which case two of primary operators are the background for the other (n-2) operators considered as fluctuations. In the bulk the particle dynamics can be reduced to the hyperbolic time slice. Although lacking exact solutions we nevertheless show that for any n the classical n-point conformal block is equal to the length of the dual geodesic network connecting n-3 cubic vertices of worldline segments. To this end, both the bulk and boundary systems are reformulated as potential vector fields. Gradients of the conformal block and geodesic length are given respectively by accessory parameters of the monodromy problem and particle momenta of the on-shell worldline action represented as a function of insertion points. We show that the accessory parameters and particle momenta are constrained by two different algebraic equation systems which nevertheless have the same roots thereby guaranteeing the correspondence.

Holographic interpretation of 1-point toroidal block in the semiclassical limit

We propose the holographic interpretation of the 1-point conformal block on a torus in the semiclassical regime. To this end we consider the linearized version of the block and find its coefficients by means of the perturbation procedure around natural seed configuration corresponding to the zero-point block. From the AdS/CFT perspective the linearized block is given by the geodesic length of the tadpole graph embedded into the thermal AdS plus the holomorphic part of the thermal AdS action.

From global to heavy-light: 5-point conformal blocks

We consider Virasoro conformal blocks in the large central charge limit. There are different regimes depending on the behavior of the conformal dimensions. The most simple regime is reduced to the global sl(2, C) conformal blocks while the most complicated one is known as the classical conformal blocks. Recently, Fitzpatrick, Kaplan, and Walters showed that the two regimes are related through the intermediate stage of the so-called heavy-light semiclassical limit. We study this idea in the particular case of the 5-point conformal block. To find the 5-point global block we use the projector technique and the Casimir operator approach. Furthermore, we discuss the relation between the global and the heavy-light limits and construct the heavy-light block from the global block. In this way we reproduce our previous results for the 5-point perturbative classical block obtained by means of the monodromy method.

Monodromic vs geodesic computation of Virasoro classical conformal blocks

We compute 5-point classical conformal blocks with two heavy, two light, and one superlight operator using the monodromy approach up to third order in the superlight expansion. By virtue of the AdS/CFT correspondence we show the equivalence of the resulting expressions to those obtained in the bulk computation for the corresponding geodesic configuration.

Classical conformal blocks via AdS/CFT correspondence

We continue to develop the holographic interpretation of classical conformal blocks in terms of particles propagating in an asymptotically $AdS_3$ geometry. We study $n$-point block with two heavy and $n-2$ light fields. Using the worldline approach we propose and explicitly describe the corresponding bulk configuration, which consists of $n-3$ particles propagating in the conical defect background produced by the heavy fields. We test this general picture in the case of five points. Using the special combinatorial representation of the Virasoro conformal block we compute $5$-point classical block and find the exact correspondence with the bulk worldline action. In particular, the bulk analysis relies upon the special perturbative procedure which treats the $5$-point case as a deformation of the $4$-pt case.

Uniformizing higher-spin equations

Vasiliev's higher-spin theories in various dimensions are uniformly represented as a simple system of equations. These equations and their gauge invariances are based on two superalgebras and have a transparent algebraic meaning. For a given higher-spin theory these algebras can be inferred from the vacuum higher-spin symmetries. The proposed system of equations admits a concise AKSZ formulation. We also discuss novel higher-spin systems including partially-massless and massive fields in AdS, as well as conformal and massless off-shell fields.

Global and local properties of AdS(2) higher spin gravity

Two-dimensional BF theory with infinitely many higher spin fields is proposed. It is interpreted as the AdS(2) higher spin gravity model describing a consistent interaction between local fields in AdS(2) space including gravitational field, higher spin partially-massless fields, and dilaton fields. We carry out analysis of the frame-like and the metric-like formulation of the theory. Infinite-dimensional higher spin global algebras and their finite-dimensional truncations are realized in terms of o(2,1) - sp(2) Howe dual auxiliary variables.

On higher spin extension of the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity model

We formulate AdS_2 higher spin gravity as BF theory with fields taking values in sl(N,R) algebra treated as higher spin algebra. The theory is topological and naturally extends the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity model so as to include higher spin fields. The BF equations linearized about AdS_2 background are interpreted as describing higher spin partially-massless fields of maximal depth along with dilaton fields. It is shown that there are dual metric-like formulations following from the original linearized BF higher spin theory. The duality establishes a dynamical equivalence of the metric-like field equations that can be given either as massive scalar field equations or as conservation conditions for higher spin currents.

Conformal blocks of W_N Minimal Models and AGT correspondence

We study the AGT correspondence between four-dimensional supersymmetric gauge field theory and two-dimensional conformal field theories in the context of W_N minimal models. The origin of the AGT correspondence is in a special integrable structure which appears in the properly extended conformal theory. One of the basic manifestations of this integrability is the special orthogonal basis which arises in the extended theory. We propose modification of the AGT representation for the W_N conformal blocks in the minimal models. The necessary modification is related to the reduction of the orthogonal basis. This leads to the explicit combinatorial representation for the conformal blocks of minimal models and employs the sum over N-tupels of Young diagrams with additional restrictions.

Frame-like Lagrangians and presymplectic AKSZ-type sigma models

We study supergeometric structures underlying frame-like Lagrangians. We show that for the theory in n spacetime dimensions both the frame-like Lagrangian and its gauge symmetries are encoded in the target supermanifold equipped with the odd vector field, the closed 2-form of ghost degree n-1, and the scalar potential of ghost degree n. These structures satisfy a set of compatibility conditions ensuring the gauge invariance of the theory. The Lagrangian and the gauge symmetries have the same structures as those of AKSZ sigma model so that frame-like formulation can be seen as its presymplectic generalization. In contrast to the conventional AKSZ model the generalization allows to describe systems with local degrees of freedom in terms of finite-dimensional target space. We argue that the proposed frame-like approach is directly related de Donder-Weyl polymomentum Hamiltonian formalism. Along with the standard field-theoretical examples like Einstein-Yang-Mills theory we consider free higher spin fields, multi-frame gravity, and parameterized systems. In particular, we propose the frame-like action for free totally symmetric massless fields that involves all higher spin connections on an equal footing.

Mixed-symmetry tensor conserved currents and AdS/CFT correspondence

We present the full list of conserved currents built of two massless spinor fields in Minkowski space and their derivatives multiplied by Clifford algebra elements. The currents have particular mixed-symmetry type described by Young diagrams with one row and one column of arbitrary lengths and heights. Along with Yukawa-like totally antisymmetric currents the complete set of constructed currents exactly matches the spectrum of AdS mixed-symmetry fields arising in the generalized Flato-Fronsdal theorem for two spinor singletons. As a by-product, we formulate and study general properties of primary fields and conserved currents of mixed-symmetry type.
