Effects of Finite Size of Constituent Quarks on Nucleon-Nucleon Interaction

We have investigated the effect of the finite size of the constituent quarks on singlet and triplet nucleon-nucleon potentials, obtained in the framework of the $SU(2)$ nonrelativistic quark model using the resonating group method in the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. The full Hamiltonian used in the investigation includes the kinetic energy, two-body confinement potential, one gluon exchange potential (OGEP), and instanton induced interaction (III). The effects of the smearing of the contact interactions and the variation of the constituent mass of the quarks are discussed.

Properties of Low-Lying Charmonium States in a Phenomenological Approach

We investigate the spectrum and decay rates of low lying charmonium states within the framework of the non relativistic quark model by employing a Coulomb like potential from the perturbative one gluon exchange and the linear confining potential along with the potential derived from instanton vacuum to account for the hyperfine mass splitting of charmonium states in variational approach. We predict radiative E1, M1, two-photon, leptonic and two-gluon decay rates of low lying charmonium states. An overall agreement is obtained with the experimental masses and decay widths.

Effects of coupled channels on $c\bar{b}$ mass and decays in NRQM with OGEP

The complete spectrum of $c\bar{b}$ states is obtained in a phenomenological non relativistic quark model(NRQM), which consists of a confinement potential and one gluon exchange potential (OGEP) as effective quark - antiquark potential with coupled channel effects. We make predictions for the radiative decay (E1 and M1) widths and weak decay widths of $c\bar{b}$ states in the framework of NRQM formalism.

Properties of ground state pseudo scalar and vector $c\bar{b}$ states in a relativistic quark model

The phenomenological relativistic quark model (RQM) has been employed to obtain the masses of ground state pseudo scalar and vector $c\bar{b}$ states. In the frame work of RQM a study of M1 radiative decays of $c\bar{b}$ has been made. The Hamiltonian used in the investigation has confinement potential and confined one gluon exchange potential (COGEP). An overall agreement is obtained with the experimental masses and decay widths. Calculated values are compared with other theoretical models.

Properties of bottomonium in a relativistic quark model

The mass spectrum of $b\bar{b}$ states has been obtained using the phenomenological relativistic quark model (RQM). The Hamiltonian used in the investigation has confinement potential and confined one gluon exchange potential (COGEP). In the frame work of RQM a study of M1 and E1 radiative decays of $b\bar{b}$ states have been made. The weak decay widths in the spectator quark approximation have been estimated. An overall agreement is obtained with the experimental masses and decay widths.

Hyperon forward spin polarizabilty gamma0

We present the results of a systematic leading order calculation of hyperon Compton scattering and extract the forward spin polarizability gamma0 of hyperons within the framework of SU(3) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT). The results obtained for gamma0 in the case of nucleons agree with that of the known results of SU(2) HBChPT when kaon loops are not considered.

P Wave Meson Spectrum in a Relativistic Model with Instanton Induced Interaction

On the basis of the phenomenological relativistic harmonic models for quarks we have obtained the masses of P wave mesons. The full Hamiltonian used in the investigation has Lorentz scalar + vector confinement potential, along with one gluon exchange potential (OGEP) and the instanton-induced quark-antiquark interaction (III). A good agreement is obtained with the experimental masses. The respective role of III and OGEP for the determination of the meson masses is discussed.

Spin Polarisability of the Nucleon in the Heavy Baryon Effective Field Theory

We have constructed a heavy baryon effective field theory with photon as an external field in accordance with the symmetry requirements similar to the heavy quark effective field theory. By treating the heavy baryon and anti-baryon equally on the same footing in the effective field theory, we have calculated the spin polarisabilities $γ_i, i=1...4$ of the nucleon at third order and at fourth-order of the spin-dependent Compton scattering. At leading order (LO), our results agree with the corresponding results of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory, at the next-to-leading order(NLO) the results show a large correction to the ones in the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory due to baryon-antibaryon coupling terms. The low energy theorem is satisfied both at LO and at NLO. The contributions arising from the heavy baryon-antibaryon vertex were found to be significant and the results of the polarisabilities obtained from our theory is much closer to the experimental data.

Volume Integral Theorem for Exotic Matter

We answer an important question in general relativity about the volume integral theorem for exotic matter by suggesting an exact integral quantifier for matter violating Averaged Null Energy Condition (ANEC). It is checked against some well known static, spherically symmetric traversable wormhole solutions of general relativity with a sign reversed kinetic term minimally coupled scalar field. The improved quantifier is consistent with the principle that traversable wormholes can be supported by arbitrarily small quantities of exotic matter.

Semiclassical and Quantum Field Theoretic Bounds for Traversable Lorentzian Stringy Wormholes

A lower bound on the size of a Lorentzian wormhole can be obtained by semiclassically introducing the Planck cut-off on the magnitude of tidal forces (Horowitz-Ross constraint). Also, an upper bound is provided by the quantum field theoretic constraint in the form of the Ford-Roman Quantum Inequality for massless minimally coupled scalar fields. To date, however, exact static solutions belonging to this scalar field theory have not been worked out to verify these bounds. To fill this gap, we examine the wormhole features of two examples from the Einstein frame description of the vacuum low energy string theory in four dimensions which is the same as the minimally coupled scalar field theory. Analyses in this paper support the conclusion of Ford and Roman that wormholes in this theory can have sizes that are indeed only a few order of magnitudes larger than the Planck scale. It is shown that the two types of bounds are also compatible. In the process, we point out a "wormhole" analog of naked black holes.

Spin polarisabilities of the nucleon at NLO in the chiral expansion

We present a calculation of the fourth-order (NLO) contribution to spin-dependent Compton scattering in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory, and we give results for the four spin polarisabilities. These results have been presented before, in hep-ph/0002133. Here we address the issue of whether one-particle reducible graphs in the heavy baryon theory contribute to the polarisabilities.

Spin polarisabilities of the nucleon at NLO in the chiral expansion

We present a calculation of the fourth-order (NLO) contribution to spin-dependent Compton scattering in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory, and we give results for the four spin polarisabilities. No low-energy constants, except for the anomalous magnetic moments of the nucleon, enter at this order. For forward scattering the fourth-order piece of the spin polarisability of the proton turns out to be almost twice the size of the leading piece, with the opposite sign. This leads to the conclusion that no prediction can currently be made for this quantity. For backward scattering the fourth-order contribution is much smaller than the third-order piece which is dominated by the anomalous scattering, and so cannot explain the discrepancy between the CPT result and the current best experimental determination.
