Quantum sum-frequency interference using up-converted photon pairs

We demonstrate a hybrid approach to the generation of photon pairs of a short wavelength with high brightness, by combining parametric down-conversion (SPDC) and up-conversion techniques. Photon pairs were generated at the wavelength of 1550 nm via SPDC, and converted to 516.7 nm through up-conversion with the pump at 775 nm. The quantum sum-frequency interference of the up-converted photon pairs exhibited a fringe period of 258.3 nm, which was 6 times shorter than the original wavelength, demonstrating that the energy-time correlation of the photon pairs was preserved. The technique simultaneously provides short fringe period beyond the classical limit and high brightness of the photon pairs.

Negative Polarization through Photon to Electron Spin Polarization Transfer in GaAs Quantum Wells

We demonstrate negative polarization created by light-hole exciton excitation in g-factor engineered GaAs quantum wells measured by time-resolved Kerr rotation and polarization-resolved photoluminescence. This negative polarization is a result of polarization transfer from a photon to an electron spin mediated by a light hole. This demonstration is an important step towards achieving quantum media conversion from a photonic qubit to an electron spin qubit required for building a quantum repeater.

Resonant excitation and anti-Stokes luminescence of GaAs single quantum dots

We have investigated micro-photoluminescence ($μ$-PL) and excitation ($μ$-PLE) spectra of a single GaAs/AlGaAs quantum dot grown on a GaAs (411)A surface. We observed sharp resonant lines in both $μ$-PL and $μ$-PLE spectra, corresponding to the discrete energy levels of the dot. When the sample was excited at one of the resonant lines, resonant luminescence lines appear not only in Stokes side but also in anti-Stokes side. We discuss the possible origins of the anomalus anti-Stokes luminescence.
