The SVOM mission, its profile and its system

The SVOM (Space-based Variable Objects Monitor) mission, launched into low Earth orbit on 22 June 2024, is a French-Chinese multi-wavelength observatory dedicated to the study of the transient sky. Inspired by the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory, it consists of an autonomous rapid-slewing satellite, linked in real time to several ground-based telescopes. The space segment comprises two X-ray/gamma-ray wide-field instruments (ECLAIRs and GRM) with real-time triggering capabilities combined with two narrow-field telescopes in X-ray (MXT) and in visible (VT). In addition, the SVOM collaboration has also developed a unique visible and NIR ground-based follow-up system to promptly respond to the gamma-ray transients detected on board. The core program of SVOM will provide new insights into the Gamma-Ray Burst physics by providing a homogeneous dataset covering both the prompt and afterglow emissions, as well as better studying the low luminosity and soft Gamma-Ray Burst populations. As a versatile satellite platform with fast slewing capabilities, SVOM also comprises a Target of Opportunity program and a General Program consisting in pointed observations scheduled over the year that will both significantly contribute to the multi-messenger and time-domain astronomy.

Metallic layered materials with magnetic frustration: An ARPES view of the SmAuAl$_4$Ge$_2$ and TbAuAl$_4$Ge$_2$

Compounds of the new materials class LnTAl$_4$X$_2$ (Ln = lanthanide, X = tetrel, T = transition metal) host exotic magnetic phenomena due to geometric frustration induced by their triangular lattice. Complex spin arrangements, magnetic fluctuations and double magnetic transitions have been well observed by means of magneto-transport. Nevertheless, the experimental electronic structure of this family of materials has been poorly studied. We have investigated the experimental electronic structure of two members of this class of materials: SmAuAl$_4$Ge$_2$ and TbAuAl$_4$Ge$_2$. By means of Angle-Resolved PhotoEmission Spectroscopy (ARPES) accompanied by Density Functional Theory calculations (DFT), we reveal common trends and features, the important effect of localized spin moments on the electronic structure, the presence of surface-localized electronic states and the nature of the surface termination layer. Low-dimensionality, exchange interaction, and spin-orbit coupling are all important ingredients of the electronic structure.

Non-existence of perfect binary sequences

Binary sequences with lower autocorrelation values have important applications in cryptography and communications. In this paper, we present all possible parameters for binary periodical sequences with a 2-level autocorrelation values. For $n \equiv 1\pmod 4$, we prove some cases of Schmidt's Conjecture for perfect binary sequences. (Des. Codes Cryptogr. 78 (2016), 237-267.) For $n \equiv 2\pmod 4$, Jungnickel and Pott (Discrete Appl. Math. 95 (1999) 331-359.) left four perfect binary sequences as open problem and we solve three of its. For $n \equiv 3\pmod 4$, we present some nonexistence of binary sequences which all nontrivial autocorrelation values are equal 3. For $n \equiv 0\pmod 4$, we show that there do not exist the binary sequences which all nontrivial autocorrelation values are equal 4.
